    This is fine, I guess, but only if Dale's going to move Ransom back down pretty much immediately when he inevitably goes 0/8 for a two-game stretch in this lineup. Did you read the quotes from Dale on the matter?

    Yes, it's a rare product. Yes, they can charge whatever they want. And yes, as a fan I can be upset that it costs too much for me to be able to afford to take my family to go see. But come on now lets not pretend that watching at home is equal to watching it live. Speaking of nonsensical... If it was impossible for most normal people to afford to bring their family to a regular season game I could see the point. Not being able to take the family to see a playoff game at a reasonable cost rings a bit hollow to me though. It's not just a rare product but playoff hockey is a special addition of a rare product, a fine wine maker's premium release. I don't really think fans should expect to be able to attend playoff games without paying a pretty penny. And regardless of what the team is charging, it will be expensive unless you get through on their initial sale. The tickets are eventually going to cost the same on the resale market, so why not have the team being the one making that money?

    Seriously? You don't get when people bitch about things costing a lot of money? Is it just ticket price conversations that are verboten, or discussions about prices of things in general? The Blackhawks are just pricing their tickets according to market demand. What's wrong with that? If they don't the secondary market will get those margins. It's nothing personal, it's just smart business. If they aren't selling out the games, then they're priced over the market demand. Not really. The goal isn't to sell-out, but rather to get the most revenue possible for the game. Making some tickets cheaper might lead to more being sold, but not necessarily more revenue.

    I'm going to guess they will remain cautious on him. He only has 220 professional PA at the moment, including only a very brief stint at low A. These guys have talked repeatedly about having guys go through each level. Plus, given the recent hubbub about his hustle and whatnot, I would expect they'd like to see Soler's name stay out of the press for a while and a promotion to AA at this stage would do the exact opposite. I would hope he gets a promotion sometime this year, but I would guess somebody else is first in line.

    So the question is just the first guy to get promoted from one level to another, not necessarily to the big leagues? I have no idea.

    I wouldn't have a problem with a piggy back situation but I think the more likely scenario is simply putting one of these guys into the long man role. Half these guys have bullpen experience, and few of them are 200 IP types who can be expected to start all year.

    If it's a coke ad, you can assume it's going to be the coke branded ad. Those outfield doors look like that more for the fact that it was introducing the concept of ads in Wrigley Field gradually. Eventually those will probably look like the companies want them to look like, as fans loosen up what they will "accept" as far as ads in the stadium.

    Wrigley's lighting is terrible. And enjoying a baseball game in the sunshine is more enjoyable.

    Maybe Fox will get involved. They could put Cubs games on WPWR or even split them between WFLD and WPWR. It's so weird to even think of a local OTA station other than WGN (and WCIU - I guess) airing games. Do other teams even have local OTA deals anymore or are most teams 100% cable? The Mets and Yankees occasionally play games on 9 and 11, owned by Fox and Tribune, respectively.

    Not sure I buy that when the TV contract money is virtually guaranteed to be coming in and we're not spending a dime of it. I still worry about how much we're actually going to get given that it's less than half their games that will be available and that it's almost two years away. If MLB changes the TV rules in that time frame, we're screwed. The Dodgers didn't wait until March 30th, 2014 to sign their TV deal. ETA: The Rangers, whose new deal begins the same year ours would signed their deal in 2010. Good point. I wonder if we'll be hearing something about something relatively soon, then. I'd guess they will wait until the stadium stuff is more concrete, so they can keep crying poor.

    It's just there to show you where the ads are going to be. That isn't going to be a cursive Wrigley, it's going to sake Coke or Budweiser or United or something.

    I think it's pretty clear they are concerned about various entities throwing a wrench into the process. They wouldn't be going through this deliberate and time consuming of an effort if they were as supremely confident as they are attempting to project. The talk of moving, and then backing off, is something that is completely purposeful and coordinated, or at least should be by the head of an entity such as the Cubs. It was a threat. Probably empty, but he knows that others probably view it as empty, which is why he couldn't just say, "do it or we'll move." He has to keep playing the friendly neighbor routine with the threat being as innocuous as possible, while still seeming theoretically conceivable.

    Small sample size alert: Last 7 days- .360/.448 /.760/ Huge trend and definitive answer. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Many of these new stats have to have a large sample size to be accurate. They are based on average data from major league games. The more data you accumulate, the closer to your norm you will be.

    I'm no engineer, but the work they need to do underneath there seems incredibly intricate and would probably both take much longer and require much more lead time in the process than something like the Bears redoing Halas Hall. It's probably going to require temporary structural support, brand new permanent support and a whole hell of a lot of gutting, not completely unlike building new subway stations. I don't doubt that. I just doubt that the wheels aren't already in motion to the point that a few weeks in April would keep the project from starting in October. It has been hard to read where things actually stand since this not yet agreed upon "agreement" was reached, but it seemed like they committed to starting the clubhouse and other phase 1 stuff this October. But wheels being in motion would require money being spent and it doesn't make any sense for Ricketts to commit money to the project without knowing the status of the project. Basically, his negotiating stance would be nil if he foolishly paid for some of that stuff already.

    It might as well be a blank card. He can play it if he wants, but it doesn't mean anything because it's as empty a threat as there could possibly be. It's not unfathomable that moving could make more sense financially, sunk costs and all, if they don't get the concessions on the things they're asking for. It's almost unfathomable that they would end up moving, which is why opponents should view the threat as nearly empty. They would literally have to get nothing they want to justify such a move. A top rate stadium is going to start at $1B, and construction would not be able to begin for at least a year, lasting another 1-2 (at least). This would require essentially spending zero dollars on Wrigley Field for the next 3 seasons, while still playing in it. You can't justify a clubhouse upgrade, any sort of expansion or new signage. You would have to remove the city from negotiations for the new land, which reduces the competition by the suburbs that want in. If they get 50-60% of what they want, they probably can't come close to justifying a move to a new location.
