  1. 0 hits in his last 22 AB. Ouch 6 in his last 13, back to 829
  2. I believe the one you are referring to there was no clear breakaway/path to the goalie. While in this case it was very clear.
  3. While he may be the top guy on a lot of lists he is not on all lists. On those lists where he is considered #2 (and most people have speculated the Cubs have him #2) that would leave a gap which he could theoretically close.
  4. I would not like the idea of putting all my eggs in two arm baskets, especially when, despite all the talk of a surplus of hitting and no pitching, the Cubs aren't exactly blessed with bats that are performing. You solve the pitching issue with supply. This management team has shown an ability to find and acquire decent arms. Your bullpen eventually gets solved with quantity, not high risk high reward arms.
  5. that sounds lovely, but hasn't all the suburban sprawl paved over most of the groves in Orange County?
  6. Yes. I heard it multiple times and I'm surprised they are allowing it.. Did they do different variations? I heard the one before the 9th and it was something like "so and so reviews Fast and Furious 6, Cubs zero". They always try to be overly clever with those Garry Meier promos though. That may have been it, I just know it was a promo that ended with the number six, and then a quick "Cubs zero" comment.
  7. you keep sticking to that theory. That theory that's like math and numbers and stuff? the theory that never stops having to be revised because it is an imperfect way to measure the results. I have very little doubt that this team is better than it's record, but it's stupid to pretend this team is good.
  8. The good thing is that wasn't really a sweep, just a variance sweep.
  9. Did I just hear a WGN radio promo that ended with something like, "coming up at 6 (Cubs zero)"?
  10. you keep sticking to that theory. I will. And the Cubs will keep being bad.
  11. Why? Most of these are established players. My concern is whether or not this coaching staff can develop the younger players. In a couple hundred games, what young players are getting better? Rizzo had really bad major league numbers before his exposure to this coaching staff. Travis Wood and Samardzija seem to have taken steps forward under their watch.
  12. Context? just wondering how you go 39 PA without a strikeout and then K 8 times out the next 13 I thought you were pissed that he shaved his beard.
  13. I missed it? Was listening and not paying attention. It's like looking down at 99,997 miles on the odometer and then not looking back until 100,003. So disappointing.
  14. Why? Most of these are established players. Is that any excuse for how poorly this team has played? The offense is toothless, there is no plate discipline, guys are making stupid errors, and the bullpen has been mismanaged. Plus you have roster moves like allowing Shawn Camp and Carlos Marmol to toil on the team. If anything, when established players under perform, it says a lot about a manager and his staff. The jury is very much out if Svuem is the right guy for the job. I think you are missing the point. These aren't high caliber established players that have underperformed. This roster has blown since before Sveum showed up. A toothless offense is frustrating, but it has little to do with the manager and more to do with the identity of the players who make up that toothless lineup. The jury is out, but this doesn't tell us much. Managers do not matter, unless they F things up. This is a bad roster that has played poorly, the same old same old.
  15. I question the coaching staff when it comes to all the "aggressive" baserunning and poor use of the bullpen, but they have little to do with all the rest.
  16. Pat: Three way tie in the National League West. Keith: And they all have the same record!
  17. So they can't get on base, they can't run the bases, they can't field the ball. Other than that things are great.
  18. 3-1 to Castro, what is going to happen? Oh lovely, another Cubs player making an out on the basepaths. These aggressive mistakes sure are smart.
  19. Good thing they didn't waste Villanueva the other day so he can be fresh now.
  20. Moreland and this other idiot are having a moronic discussion about BABIP right now.
  21. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan 34s Tarp now being removed. We will start at 2:45 pm (CST) or so.
  22. http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/pittsburgh-pa/15219/hourly-weather-forecast/1310 The hourly forecast indicates they can get this in during daylight hours, still leaving plenty of time for both teams to travel tonight.
  23. At the moment, anything that keeps Jackson's starts from counting is probably a positive thing. Next time Cubs are in Pittsburgh is a 4 game series that comes in the middle of a 3 week stretch of no off days.
