  1. Yeah, it's a getaway game for both teams, but they also both have an off day tomorrow. I guess 4pm is somewhat normal to a California audience though, since that is when most east coast games start for them.
  2. It shouldn't be a surprise that elderly New Yorkers are flocking to south Florida in an attempt to prolong their lives.
  3. good lord what is that?
  4. They also seem intent on not doing things the way they did them in Boston. Also, with proven commodities such as veteran major leaguers with track records they can rely on, they will evaluate character concerns differently than for amateurs that still have to develop into professionals.
  5. You think a double minor should lessen the chance for a suspension? the severity of one at least. I thought i remember Shanahan saying that Torres not getting a penalty played into the length of his suspension last year, but I might be insane. If Keith gets suspended, start the conspiracy theories because it will mean the NHL is clearly trying to officiate this series to 7 games. I think he'll get a fine. Last year, Suter(?) tried to kill that guy and he got fined $2,500. Keith is a repeat offender.
  6. Huh? I kind of see what he's saying. By most accounts a major reason they took Almora was for his attitude/character. They want a bit of rah rah hard working types. They could view a guy shooting up the rankings with at least a little help from foreign substances as not only a risk for future suspensions and a career that doesn't wind up as well as you'd think if forced to work clean, but also just a character risk in general.

  8. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan 11m Junior Lake to make debut at Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. Will play third and center. Ian Stewart? Still there.
  9. Keith is going to have a hearing, which pretty much guarantees a suspesion, right? He's good at letting guys instigate him into trouble.
  10. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0605-bits-cubs-angels-chicago-20130605,0,3588149.story Well that has to be one of the stupidest things I have read about this renovation plan. What business does the city of Chicago have trying to insert themselves into the MLB scheduling process? These nonsensical and overreaching power plays are exhausting. That's easily the dumbest request any side has made throughout the entire process. Maybe the dumbest that has been displayed for the public to see, but I'm sure there's been even dumber ones behind the scenes.
  11. Same. I have an issue with signing older guys to massive (think Pujols) commitments when you are going to get the majority of the value in the first 2 or 3 years of a deal and then be paying for that production for years thereafter, but otherwise, criticizing getting good value on guys for now is ridiculous. What the hell else were they going to do with the $5M they saved in 2013 by not signing Fujikawa? Or the $12 or w/e on Jackson? Then why did you lose your mind last year when the Cubs signed Reed Johnson (for like $1 million) on the theory that signing reserve outfielders was a complete waste of money on a team that wasn't going to contend? (I'll remind you that Johnson helped them get Arodys) Well, there are 25 roster spots available, and the team already had too many mediocre players taking up space on the roster. My preference is for good baseball players on the roster. But that's just me.
  12. Some TE named Gabe Miller on the Bears got busted with the drug policy.
  13. His cap hit is 8.7m. He makes 12m, and doesn't make less than $9m until 2023. The Blackhawks are in a predicament with the Hossa contract, and I would not assume they will be willing to go right back into another deal that will require a similar ending, especially when Toews will get as much, or more.
  14. I wouldn't move him for the sake of moving him, my point is they could theoretically get a haul for him. If he's considered the 4th best skater in the NHL and getting better I don't see how his next contract only gives him a 1-2 million raise. Because you know contracts aren't negotiated based on advanced statistics. Kane won't make more than 7-8 million in his next contract. What agent isn't going to include such analysis in his negotiations?

  16. Kane isn't going anywhere. If the marketing department gets its way, no, he won't be going anywhere. If the Bowman's have as much control as they probably should, there's a fairly decent chance he gets dealt sometime. Hockey players move all the time. I still like to believe Buffalo will do something stupid in a trade with hopes of generating excitement for the hometown kid.
  17. It will be annoying from a "the internet is making fun of the Bears quarterback situation again" point of view, but there's nothing wrong with giving him a look.
  18. That's the way I'm leaning, unless they may think he will be allowed to "treat his ailment" as a pro. Still though, if they were drafting 3rd maybe it makes sense to take the guy but when you have the option of one of the other two among the big three, I see no reason to risk it.
  19. OMG Packers have invaded Halas Hall. This is an abomination! https://twitter.com/BradBiggs/status/341990949091696643/photo/1
  20. some guy from SI and a professor (from the university of his mom's basement) on CNBC talking about the decline of baseball, citing Miami, Philly, Houston and Cubs among others with declining attendance and the exorbitant prices. its' really mostly about the Marlins and pointless
  21. I absolutely know that. I don't think Szczur can be a 360/740 guy in the majors. I don't really think Ha can either, but even if he can, I'm not convinced he can play good MLB CF defense. But you said he'd have to "massively improve" on his current numbers to be valuable. His current numbers in AA match up with 360/740, but what is his MLE? Well, sure, no question. I doubt he'd step into Wrigley today and post 360/740. I was specifically responding to what Kyle said. Seems like an odd response then when it was clear he would have to massively improve to have those types of numbers in the majors, and he's already nearly 24.
  22. At this point? I'd say this series would be a more surprising sweep most because Boston has the next 2 at home. Even prior to this point I would think that LA's home dominance and the fact that their goalie was considered by some to be the best player left in the playoffs would make it the most improbable.
