    Nobody would call somebody who is average at those 5 tools a 5 tool player. That's just dumb.

    Some pretty high praise. WOW, that's some crazy praise. I think the 5-tool compliment is a bit excessive though. He doesn't project to be a guy who's power will be considered a "tool." But exciting news nonetheless. I've seen 15-20+HR power talked about, which would definitely be a tool for a plus defensive CF. When you qualify it like that, which Parks is likely doing, then yes it is. But I consider 5-tool to not be position specific but how your specific tool compares to the best in the league. Trout and Harper are 5-tool players, regardless of position, and more of what I was talking about. Almora obviously isn't in their class. Yeah, it's a nice thing to have in a defensive CF, but it's not 5-tool. Although that distinction itself is kind of stupid.

    I don't give a crap if Jay didn't get along with Tice. He was a dolt. And Martz had a reputation of not getting along with his own squad coming in, and he hasn't found work coaching since his time here. I think this says more about the organizations problems with overall offensive philosophy than something that is wrong with Jay Cutler. He doesn't lead the league in smiles, but I don't give a crap.

    The Cubs' first pick, Kris Bryant (2), was a first-round talent out of high school who ended up at the University of San Diego and just ended up leading Division 1 in homers this year with 31. His kind of right-handed power is hard to come by, and even if he ends up in right field down the road he'll be a middle-of-the-order bat with power and patience. Rob Zastryzny (41) is a four-pitch starter without an out pitch, showing good command and control but lacking life on the fastball. Jacob Hannemann (75) is a 22-year-old freshman from BYU who spent two years serving on a religious mission, with good tools including the speed to possibly stay in center, but he's already at an age when he should be in Double-A. The Cubs took five hard throwers who probably profile in relief in the long run in Tyler Skulina (108), Trey Masek (138), Scott Frazier (168), David Garner (198), and Sam Wilson (228); Skulina and Frazier are the most intriguing because they at least have a chance to remain starters due to their size and potential for above-average breaking balls. Their one wild card pick is Trevor Clifton (348), a prep righty from Tennessee who reaches 97 mph regularly with a very violent delivery and a strong commitment to Kentucky.

    Great last 1st rounder by Angelo The funny thing is it was a widely lauded, relatively safe pick, unlike some of Angelo's other first rounders. I really was hoping for more than a 6th. Could always have kept him as a swing guard/tackle. This sounds like a deal him for the sake of dealing him deal, which I don't like. It's easy for a new GM/HC with no actual ties to the player to throw him away for something like a 6th. If he stabilizes his career there they can still just throw out some gibberish about how "it just wouldn't have worked out here." Carimi has been a disappointment, but this is not a line that is overstuffed with sure things, they could have used the depth at the very least.

    I wouldn't call everybody below that group a role player. And those won't all stay in the same spot forever. Gretzky, jagr, messier. They all moved. Crosby is probably a lock to not move, but ovi is a weirdo on a poorly run team. Who knows with him. I'd day yes, there is a lot of movement. And it's not just one last team at the end of a career. Just look at hossa. His story is normal.

    If you are going to hate on the non first rounders then don't hedge and only list 3-10. And don't just list guys who became useful major leaguers, what about guys used in trades for useful players? The point is the cubs just stocked a pitching thin system with college arms. And for Christs sake stop acting like you are breaking news here. Everybody know the attrition rates. Everybody know a top 10 isn't going to produce all major leaguers, let alone the top 30. The cubs added players that added to the organization.

    Sounds like a typical 18 year old athlete who is just realizing he's not a superstar. eh, being drafted will only encourage him if he was going to juco and not getting a football scholarship and only taken in the 9th round, I'm guessing it's been a somewhat humbling year.

    That's the good thing about this year, whatever happens there won't have to be a firesale. Saad stepped up this year. A new guy will need to step up next year. That's the only way it's going to work with so much high-priced talent on this team. We can't keep the $3-4 million role players. And that's okay as long as the younger guys do progress and the team continues to draft well. I look forward to seeing Teravainen in a few years. So, as a relatively new hockey fan, I've wondered this....is the NHL happy with the amount of movement of players in the league? Subjectively, it seems like more than any other sport, player movement is a given. I don't think there's many/any players that play for a single team their whole careers. And I suppose that's true in a lot of other sports, but it seems especially rare in hockey. Movement is the norm, but you do have guys like Datsyuk and Brodeur who have been in the same spot forever. It's the one sport that combines the ability for some guys to come in at 18/19 and play right away, plus becoming a free agent very early. They NHL seems much more interested in dividing up the revenue between owners and players than limiting player movement.

    playoff heroes routinely sign bloated contracts when their playoff numbers outpace their typical regular season numbers. yeah, but it sucks having to replenish for a run every 3 years. i guess that's just the nature of the game now. Better than replenishing every 50 years.

    So that's 5 college starting pitchers out of the top 200 picks of the draft going to the Cubs. I think we can call it a trend. Assuming they sign, you would think a lot of these currently 21-22 year olds will be in Kane County or Daytona next season. Everything from BIGMOFOS to little fellas.
