  1. You don't have to, but the Cubs were very willing to overpay for access to these guys before the rules changed.
  2. All that forced, "they are really working hard out there" stuff with the coach who had his back to us, and the "don't blink, it will be over" lines were just as awkward as anything he says to the media.
  3. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/article-1/Trestman-featured-in-final-part-of-Inside-Rookie-Minicamp/986b7c5f-816f-4834-b31e-11c33970d3ff I really hope Trestman turns out to be an amazing coach because listening to him talk kind of sucks. I could ignore that if they win a lot.
  4. yeah, quite pointless. You knew it would be bad when they started off with a Dunkin Donuts joke and a "city of Boston is all about championship" statement for why they'd be disappointed with a loss in the final.
  5. Yes but Volstad is a totally different type of acquisition and an unusual one at that. He's just a guy they took from a team who was willing to take a guy they were hell bent on trading primarily because he was a head case Maybe in retrospect, but people had some hope for Volstad to be something more than he ended up being at the time. They could have just released Zambrano if they wanted him gone no matter the return.

  7. I think the tension in the air for any elimination game makes those baseball playoffs fairly riveting viewing. I could not care less about other teams playoff games though, and any non-elimination game just isn't intriguing. It doesn't help that they can last 3.5 hours just to see 9 innings.
  8. It's a Phil Rogers article that says very little.
  9. The reveal on that one was fantastic. I could watch this all night. What am I missing? The fact that the 2B had a cup of coffee between the time he caught the ball and threw it because Molina is super fast. That's a reveal?
  10. I don't see Maholm as a name that goes in the Camp/Volstad/Corpas/Castillo pile... more like the Feldman/Baker/Villanueva pile. They're 3/4 on those guys and the 4th guy was hurt, so what has happened isn't a big shock. Huh? He didn't put Maholm in the Volstad pile. He equated him to Feldman, as a guy they hit on.
  11. http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18s0kfrzjf0hvjpg/ku-xlarge.jpg So Hernandez was arrested by the cops and released by the Patriots.
  12. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/chicago_blackhawks/ Jimmy Hayes, Ben Smith and Jeremy Morin are guys that have been around a bit and could earn jobs in training camp. They will probably get their backup goalie from within the system next year.
  13. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/taiwanese-animation-stanley-cup-final-bloody-insane-video-134247454.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Taiwan was paying attention to the series.
  14. I've not received notification from the cubs on Skulina, but have heard from them about every other signing of a 15th rounder or above. Skulina just posted on twitter, with a picture of him signing, that it's finally official.
  15. I don't think prospect for IFA money is going to be in the ballpark. That's basically prospect for prospect, and then you are going to have a hard time drumming up an indifference in valuation to make the trade worthwhile to both teams. I could see someone like Navarro netting some IFA space. It's not really prospect for prospect. It's essentially prospect for cash. There are teams that would rather not spend cash on a prospect if they don't have to. If they don't want to spend $1m on a 16 year old, but could acquire some 20 year old simply for giving up their right to spend that $1m, they will.
  16. The explanation for why he's the best available, and not Price, makes no sense.
  17. He's only in A+, right? He was also the 43rd pick last year and has only 86 pro innings pitched. So his pedigree doesn't really tell you much in terms of comparing him to all other guys taken in the first the past two years, plus all international signings. And his track record as a pro is minimal.
  18. Well it did cost them 1 game in the Finals and I cant remember the effect it had on the DET series, but I presume it was at the very least similar. I'm happy I was wrong. However for any of us to sit here and say we had 100% confidence they would pull this thing out during the DET series and after the Bruins won game 3 we would be liars. It was a great playoff run and fun to watch. In fact I did predict exactly how this one would play out.
