  1. I figure if you want to make sure you pitch a guy on a set schedule to see how his frame holds up under standard duress, Daytona is the last place you do that. Is that true early in the season, or typically much later? I would think Daytona would be the best place for him to pitch in April, and that the rain delays don't really start until May and really pick up over the summer. Give him 6 weeks in Daytona, good for 7 or 8 starts and another 35-45 innings (if not more).
  2. I would think Thursday, so it's all over the Friday papers and the talk of the town before the convention begins.
  3. Just drink the iocane powder already. http://thetorchonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/iocane-powder.jpg
  4. I have no idea how the contracts are structured, but there are probably just enough day games to satisfy the allotment that were shown on WGN You'd have day games plus games airing whenever American Idol is not airing. Also, I know that in NY the my9 network is the sister station to Fox5, and I believe Chicago has a similar set-up with My50, WPWR. So, in much the same way that some local games are aired on whatever that other local station is that isn't channel 9, they can air on WPWR when Fox5 is airing something that takes precedence.
  5. it would be fox local. they can't broadcast on two competing cable networks. after CSN is up, then fox could conceivably start an RSN for all of the games. Fox 32 (it's still 32 right?, even if your cable network has it on a different channel? I remember my parents house had it on Channel 12) would just replace all the channel 9 games.
  6. Yeah I'm not worried. It's a little [expletive] that they might to have to be the road team in the 2nd round against St. Louis and potentially in the 3rd round against Anaheim unless they do their annual playoff collapse but overall I'm just happy they are doing this well overall considering the short offseason, potential for cup hangover, olympics distractions, etc. You say "road team" as if they will only play on the road. The president's trophy/Stanley Cup run was nice last year, but 2nd/3rd seeds can just as easily make a run. They'll have plenty of home games and can win on the road. I know, that's why I said it's a little [expletive], not devastating to their chances. I don't mind being the road team, especially a team as battle tested as them. I like knowing that if your team can win 1 of the 2 road games to start the series, the odds immediately shift in their favor. How am I supposed to know what a little expletive is supposed to translate to?
  7. Oh man, this is so sexy if you picture it the right way. Especially if the wide typo wasn't really a typo.
  8. I don't get what derwood is fretting about. The Cutler issue was poised to be the biggest story of the offseason, and that was settled. The other contenders for that story included the vets already resigned, whether Peppers will be retained and what will happen with the defensive staff. That stuff has either been settled or will take quite a while to be settled. The draft and free agency are the other things on the agenda that will be in focus. They will each take turns at the forefront of discussion. It's pretty pointless to whine about mock drafts at this point.

  10. Edwards has a about a season and half's worth of excellence under his belt while Soler has less than one season of good under his belt. I can't put Soler above Edwards even with a greater amount of confidence in hitters. Soler's inability to stay on the field offsets the "pitchers are always an injury concern" aspect.
  11. It's nice to play in the AFC East.
  12. Please, Kyle would be pleased if the receptionist at his therapists office smiled when he scheduled his next appointment.
  13. I'm pretty eager to be excited about it being either of the 40%ers I mentioned...moreso the TV deal, since that comes with some major certainty of revenue, I think, but both are pretty big. We're going to get a TV deal eventually. It's going to be for more money than we make now. That just doesn't excite me. There is a very large range of revenue expectations that are possible with a new TV deal, and the timing can also vary quite a bit. If we find out this week they are getting a big influx, that would be a little exciting.

Agree. The stadium is going to happen at some point, and isn't really that interesting. The TV deal is what could theoretically be a game changer.
  15. Well, obviously, but idk I'd just think that if you cared enough about the Cubs to post here you probably at least googled the hope of the franchise at least once. I could google him 10 times and still not recognize him on the 11th.
  16. As David said the odds are it's probably TV or rooftop/stadium related. Discussing the "gravity" of the situation suggests to me it's more of a longterm organization issue rather than a player acquisition.
  17. hahahaha Newscorp buying Tribune would be a pretty big deal.
  18. Isn't that the Mooney article being talked about in Baseball Discussions? The way Tryptamine worded it it was like FOX is trying to acquire WGN itself...which resulted in my reply above. Yeah, Fox acquiring WGN itself is a whole new ballgame when compared to Fox acquiring the current WGN controlled Cubs rights.. Although, if it does acquire WGN, there won't be any negotiating between WGN and Fox for the Cubs rights.
  19. I had my doubts early on but it's only gotten better and better.
