  1. It's the NHL, almost everybody is an ex of five+ teams.
  2. he was in an unfortunate altercation with the Mountain, wasn't he? that was olt.
  3. The whole broadcast is centered around the idea that current MLB needs are the most important aspect of the draft.
  4. I think Teuvo Teravainen was recently disappointing in some event but he probably has a chance to make it. He'll be 20 this fall. according to hockeysfuture these are the top five prospects in the system.
  5. "Might not have been able to play" according to the beat writers.
  6. or maybe they are done foreshadowing who they will pick.
  7. This line of reasoning makes no sense to me.
  8. Holy crap. A 16-year old hitting a ball over the batter's eye at UCSD is incredibly impressive. wait, alex jackson is 16? i thought he was 18, and it's apparently hard to find the age of high school players online. He was at the time, in 2012:
  9. Exactly. The Crawford contract is not an albatross some make it out to be for one. It also just started.
  10. Well, he brought nothing to the table in the conference finals and his contract sucks. It is too high of a salary cap hit for a guy who isn't a great goalie. He's not horrible, but that fact means nothing when he is getting $6m a year for several years with a team that needs overwhelming offensive firepower to win. This team wins and loses on its skaters. The goalie has not been part of the core that needs to be maintained. Completely agree. I wouldn't even call it hate for Crawford, it's more like a realistic view of his role on this team and the view of a goalie in general. Heck, look at the Kings, they are going to the Final in spite of Quick, not because of him and he's almost universally regarded as being better than Crawford. To tie up those resources on a goalie is really tough and will probably cost them a guy like Sharp or Seabrook moving forward. I would say that the incremental value of Crawford over Niemi or Raanta is less than the gap between Sharp and someone like Morin or Nordstrom. Yeah, it gets annoying having it portrayed as "hate". But that isn't going to change and no matter how many times you explain the salary cap implications of an overpaid goalie that isn't a difference maker some people are just going to keep hearing "hate".

  12. Have we heard anything about injuries that guys were playing with? Seems like we should have heard some of that by now. Q essentially said there were no big injuries to worry about. I can't vouch for the authenticity of that statement.
  13. In both situations, the batter intentionally plans his swing around a certain type of pitch rather than waiting until the pitch is in the air to try to read it. But with the latter he has much more confidence of what is actually coming.
  14. It seems pretty obvious to me they will need new bodies at the catcher position before they start winning division titles. I would never rely on a catcher to stay productive for longer than 2-3 seasons. Might as well keep him around in the meantime, but don't get crazy with an extension or ignore potential replacements.
  15. Best option is still to purposefully not sign a guy and pick twice in the top 5 next year!
  16. It's not all about safety. Rodon has a legit secondary pitch (slider) while Kolek doesn't yet and also seems to have command issues. Command and secondary pitches can be developed, 100 MPH can't. History is littered with hard throwing high school pitchers that flamed out. It's not the least bit confusing why any team would prefer to draft somebody other than Kolek.
  17. At this point I don't think that is a possibility. To me, he's like Soriano. He's a guy that is a really strong player, at times dominant, but is signed for too long at too much money. And people will whine about him, and wish him gone, but there's no realistic possibility of that happening, until at the very least, a lot closer to the end of his contract. Also, he's not half as bad as the haters will insist he is. Except in this case they are operating under a salary cap and every dollar he gets that is above the value he provides a direct negative effect on the team.
  18. At this point I don't think that is a possibility.
  19. Conforto is really going to test my commitment to the college bats only early in the draft preference.
  20. I think in a rage fit in Game 3 or 4 I compared him to M.A. Fleury. Could be a similar situation. I just don't see why they had to give him six years. Was anyone else going to give him that contract? Not likely. That said, the truly standout goalies in the league are few and far between. Look at Quick, one of those guys. We torched him. Crow is definitely in that next group right below the elite guys. This is why I hate giving a big/long contract for the goalie position in general, let alone Crawford in particular. At $6m he can no longer just be a solid piece to fill a spot, but rather a guy who has a significant positive influence.
  21. So how long into his contract will Crawford remain the primary goalie for the Blackhawks?
