  1. stretcher time
  2. This had to be posted with the knowledge that the best fans in baseball would revolt.
  3. Let the Bears pay the Bears tax.
  4. He's gotta be pushing late 30s now right? Is he even any good any more? Haven't heard his name since he left Chicago. He just turned 35, and played a full 82 game season with 37 points and nearly 27m/g. Part of the reason you never hear about him is nobody hears about Florida. Obviously he's not a good candidate for the Blackhawks unless they get some crazy good deal.
  5. I don't see how it is possible to accurately judge how excited you were about something a year ago and then compare it to how you feel about the next thing now, especially when we know how disappointing that thing became.
  6. The pitching staff has been competitive.
  7. Weren't people psyched for the dud 2014 draft a year ago?
  8. http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--qcxuG5in--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_636/772482498234106539.gif
  9. are they playing in fast forward mode?
  10. oooooooooooooooooooooooo, near misses
  11. lol we can probably speculate i guess If we were playing Family Feud and the category was "things that give OMC a boner" and "beautiful women" was already taken, "dead Union soliders" would have been my next guess. I would quit the game.
  12. A little? My read was that it's unclear how that applies to this offseason's FA(partially because of Shark maybe?), but it certainly didn't do anything to change my mind that they won't be going after Scherzer/Lester. There's quite a few players between Scherzer/Lester and the 1 year Feldman/Hammel deals though, and Shark definitely will have an impact on if/how they pursue those guys. As for the finances, I take that to mean the amount available to spend(100 million, give or take) is not going up this offseason, which isn't much of a surprise. That's not the same as 'we still have no money' since to reach that threshold they'd have to spend quite a bit. Was anybody really expecting them to sign a top SP free agent? I mean, that seems obvious to me. A lot of people are obsessing over the perceived need for an ace, but the gameplan seems to me to field a competent pitching staff and then eventually overwhelm with offense. They've done alright picking and choosing arms, but have failed miserably with offense, so they are waiting for the draft picks (and will hopefully sign one or two bats as well).
  13. Isn't he Mr. Optimism in general? (aside from team's chances in the world cup that is)
  14. UMFan deleted his post but my twitter says there is no news on Altidore yet.
  15. At 19, in his first pro season he had an IsoP over 300. He hit 17 HR in less than 300 PA. So, he did translate the power to professional games, it just went away last year when it took him more than 550 PA to get to 19 HR and he has only 5 HR in ~250 PA this season.
  16. Oh shut the [expletive] up Brett.
  17. Why do soccer folk insist on referring to singular countries in the plural? It kind of bugs the crap out of me. It is the britishized affectation of talking futbol.
  18. Did Ervin's prior 3 year compare to Samardzija's past 3 years? They aren't paying big contracts based on career years in your walk season. results-wise, yes (3.85 vs. 3.87 ERA), but Shark supported it with much stronger peripherals, which GMs seem to be putting more stock into these days you're clearly missing the main point, though; nowhere did i suggest Shark will have to accept $14M, but i do think he's very likely going to be in for a rude awakening if he expects $135M in full I'm not missing the point. My point was there's a very good reason for Shark excepting nothing less than the maximum. Plenty of 30+ year old pitchers make $20+/years and there is more and more money available to more and more teams. He has very little incentive to accept a less, yet safer, deal today and he can't really be threatened with a "look what happened to Garza" story. Even if he does pull a Garza and get hurt between now and then he can still probably get another $50m. That isn't a cautionary tale.
  19. Pretty crappy list. Besides the sub-.400 SLG bat-only 1B/DH that everyone has already mentioned, they seemingly knock Soler for his injury problems while thinking Edwards' shoulder injury is no big deal. Tseng and Hendricks are top 10 prospects and should be ahead of Vogelbach and Stinnett. yeah, Edwards at 3 despite the injury is just wanting desperately to put a pitcher up there.

  21. Why wouldn't he think that? Every good pitcher gets what they want on the market and the money that teams have to spend is only going up. Age 31 isn't an obstacle to most teams. with the rumored demands, he's making a bet that his arm stays fully intact for 18 more months do i really need to remind you of the many casualties throughout the league so far for you to see why this is a pretty foolish gamble on his part? If it was really that foolish it would be stupid for the Cubs to offer him anything. He's already made enough money to retire on. He has no real incentive to take less than max value.
  22. Why wouldn't he think that? Every good pitcher gets what they want on the market and the money that teams have to spend is only going up. Age 31 isn't an obstacle to most teams. Age is definitely a big obstacle, once you cross 30 it's really tough to get teams to shell out even half of 25 million. Look at Garza(remember his contract ask mid-2012?), Santana, and Ubaldo this year. C.J Wilson is the only 30+ pitcher to make more than the QO in the new CBA. That'll change with Scherzer and Lester this offseason, but it underscores that you have to be really good for a long time or phenomenally good to make that type of money as a 30+ pitcher. Thus far Shark hasn't done either. I mean, I guess if you want to compare him to injured guys you can, not sure why you would though.
  23. Where do I get that Raised Right shirt for sulley? The people recording themselves are weird. http://screamer.deadspin.com/how-the-world-tweeted-usa-vs-ghana-1591958697/+barryap
