  1. Doesn't FIFA just take the all publicity is good publicity mantra to heart? They don't care if 1 team advances over a team they lost to, in fact, they probably welcome the venom that would result. They don't care about brazen bribery scandals, extremely racist and homophobic fans, diving, obvious advantages of using technology to prevent bad officiating, etc. They invite the controversy because it keeps FIFA top of mind world wide.
  2. Here's the logic: GD means that in a tight situation at least two teams will be in attacking mode until the end of the games. If H2H would be the first tie-breaker, there could be a lot of bunkering down to preserve results, as the number of goals wouldn't matter. So if you want to see attacking play until the end of the games, the GD > GS > H2H order makes perfect sense that would make some sense if it wasn't for the fact that we still see plenty of hunkering down and very little attacking
  3. As I understand it, we have him under control for those 9 years, and he has the ability to opt out of his salary in favor of arbitration when the time comes. He has to be up for good by 2016, right? He's burning option years in the minors now. If he does come up for the first time in 2016 and sticks, he will have 5 years left on the deal so at the end of the contract he should only be arbitration eligible, and not a free agent. No? You can write in language that says the team is not allowed to offer arbitration at the end, or something like that, which effectively makes the player a free agent.
  4. Germany will play to win, period. We'll see how it goes next Thursday - you can count on all of Belgium watching the early games closely. If Germany gets a goal early, because 'Murica, they'll gladly sit on that lead. It will be interesting to see how hard the US pushes for the equalizer in that scenario. Why wouldn't they push as hard as possible to equalize?
  5. Me either, although I can't help but think how awesome it would be next year to see Baez, Bryant, and Alcantara all come up together in a symbolic transition to the next phase of the plan. Symbolism is t really worth much to me, unless it forces the trib and Muskat to stop writing core four.
  6. Is Baez married or engaged? Doesn't he have a special lady friend on twitter that seems to be at all the games?
