  1. lolllllllllll Sorry, guys the very purpose of the article was horribly flawed, let me get right on that. But the point stands?
  2. Seems like a pretty ineffective way to hold down costs. No one is required to build foreign academies. The academies themselves aren't a huge expense, and without them teams that want to have involvement in the region need people down there, maybe more than there are now. Seems like a more likely outcome is that the teams that don't want to spend are wanting to have competitive parity with those that do, so the rules are changing to accommodate that minority. They are a pretty big expense with no way of generating revenue on their own. If the handful of teams with those academies are going to monopolize all the talent the other teams will be forced to spend money on all the second and third rate prospects, or abandon the market. It isn't a perfectly efficient way to hold down costs, but they can't just do the real obvious ones without running into trouble with the law and/or the players' association.
  3. Cubs management was oddly sympathetic to the Giants cause on this one. I wonder how much that pisses off the players.
  4. Their interest is in maximizing profits and they are doing that by holding down costs. They aren't targeting the Cubs, they are helping teams like the White Sox that don't want to have to invest. It is a disincentive to spend.
  5. Castro just doesn't want to see Jackson pitch. and he don't get WCIU

  8. Those things work when a rundown lot gets upgraded but not so much when a street is being taken over or a current building is being altered. Plus, a groundbreaking there is just going to provide a forum for the opponents to voice their oppositions in front of multiple media types, including non-beat writers.
  9. Just got this in an email. Not sure if it's a STH thing or some other mailing list I'm on (maybe from signing the petition). I got it as well and I'm pretty sure it's just the same mailing list they send out other stuff from, upcoming schedules and giveaways etc.
  10. this is how i feel as rational as i like to be, looking at those pictures is even worse somehow than what i was visualizing. [expletive] all that. There is nothing irrational about not wanting to see that on the uniforms. It will provide very little, if any, benefit to the team on the field. It will only serve to make the owner more rich. And it looks like [expletive].
  11. The only way it benefits the Cubs is if they are allowed to keep all their revenue from the advertising; and I have big doubts that MLB would let this happen without structuring it as a shared revenue situation. The only people that benefit in that are the owners.
  12. Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs · 20s RT Jordan Mills returned to practice for #Bears today Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman · 3m Jordan Mills and Jared Allen both participated in #Bears practice today. Kyle Fuller did not.
  13. That seems to be the obvious reason, no? He can get on the ice much sooner. Can't really blame him for that.
  14. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/pat-kirwan/24667666/tom-brady-not-peyton-manning-headlines-preseason-all-kirwan-team-at-qb Pat Kirwan's best at each position, including: WR -- Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears: Look at his numbers over the past two years: 218 receptions and 23 touchdowns. OG -- Kyle Long, Chicago Bears: This spot belonged to Logan Mankins but as a personnel director said to me, "Long might be the best guard in the league already." Watch the film. He is on his way to a great career.
  15. Baseball rule change: Just use pitching machines. Reenact the turning the blind eye to PED/steroids they just need to rebrand them as organic or something.
  16. Chris Russo is a Giants fan.
  17. soccer unis are ridiculously stupid. Let's go Aon!!! 1888BET win!!!! I would definitely never buy another jersey/shirt with logos on them. I would probably enjoy watching a game much less if the unis looked like that.
  18. I do not believe these folks Well it's pretty vague but its the first positive thing Ive heard toward the Cubs possibly landing him. The first? Like, today? There have been plenty of positive things indicating the Cubs could possibly land him.
  19. He might be more aggressively loud than Cowherd, but he's not nearly the level of douche of Cowherd. Cowherd is a genuinely bad person. Russo is just an excitable puppy that pees on everything.
  20. Considering the OF the Cubs have this year and they probably won't have 95 losses with it, I'm guessing two straw men and a scarecrow. I interpret it as an extrapolation from the performance you would get from that outfield, as in, if the rest of the team performed similar to that OF they would be a 95 loss team. Not a particularly fair way to do it, considering everybody has weak and strong spots. But they do have a weak OF situation and plenty of room, money and justification to spend big on one.
