  1. Not buying that at all.
  2. It makes perfect sense that a new oc would be able to bring in some of his guys, but Waldron has such a mediocre track record and I’m not particularly enthusiastic about the direction they’re heading.
  3. The 1st for Moore is theoretically offsetting a 2025 1st, when they got a 2nd instead. They didn’t straight up trade a first for him. And it wasn’t two drafts, it’s 4. 2022/23/24/25 picks were involved. I did forget about Velus though. What a bad pick.
  4. Have they invested a ton? A 2nd for Claypool, and you can argue a future first was offset for Moore, but absolutely no money when every big passing team is spending like mad on receivers. It has turned into a 4/5 man position group and much like the offensive line you need to constantly add to it regularly. Three offseasons and that’s it, so far from Poles. He should have invested a ton but I would argue he absolutely did not, especially by completely punting his first offseason.
  5. If the Bears don’t open the season with a designed play for Fields called Y + 5, they’re damn fools.
  6. If they’re being honest with themselves there’s a lot more teams than that without a QB1.
  7. i dont think AH is off the table.
  8. You’ve repeatedly referred to him as a god awful player that can only hurt the team by his very presence on the roster. But then you sprinkle in the occasional, “well yeah obviously he’s a perfectly acceptable backup.” Just pointing out that your obvious trolling was obvious to everybody.
  9. Payton has to know if you want to tank for a top pick, Fields is your guy.
  10. Just keeping this here for posterity
  11. You have to assume Poles sits out the first wave of FA until he actually participates in the first wave. It’s his 3rd offseason and so far the biggest guys are running backs and linebackers listed in the middle of top 100 free agent lists. He’s not a top of the market guy.
  12. I would imagine that infringing on the lake and harbor would be an even bigger obstacle than just building in existing land.
  13. That is true. But he’ll know the offers that are out there and he’ll know people were willing to offer no more than a 6th (if that’s the case), so what are his options if nobody wants him this offseason? Demand a release?
  14. Savvy vet backups are overpaid and not that savvy and generally suck. Fields is good for a game or two here or there. He’s also a weapon they could utilize in fun ways a couple times a game. And the point is to get more value out of an asset.
  15. This is the bears offseason thread
  16. For the life of me I will never understand the “can’t have Fields in the clubhouse” argument. He’s under contract for one year. Hes a good guy/teammate He’s proven over and over he’s not THE guy. But he’s capable of winning a game or two. If Williams is any good he’ll win the job in the summer and it’ll be obvious he should be the starter. If Williams gets injured then fields starts. If Fields goes on a tear, great! If he fuddles along like he’s done so far in his caeeer, so be it. there is not going to be a clubhouse split about who should start. If Williams starts and is bad enough that people will be clamoring for Fields, that situation is not any better with Fields in another uniform. ideally, somebody else gets hurt in September and Fields is sitting there as a guy they’d be willing to trade a 2nd for. But they should not trade him today for a 6th just because they are afraid of him being in the locker room with Williams.
  17. It weakens a divisional opponent in the short term, but also bails them out of bad contract for an aging qb.
  18. Swift does not impress me. Seems like an overpay for a non-difference maker.
  19. They play in a publicly owned stadium that is 100 years old and was renovated (poorly) in 2002/03.
  20. I think this story is just that they are proposing to build a new dome and “offering” to provide $2B in financing but this would still need public support and have to go through a ton of hoops. Still just part of the process.
  21. Bedard with one ridiculously ugly forced it off the defender goal from behind the net, then another absolute beauty on a 5 on 3.
  22. Apparently they have deal with Byard. the Jr Eagles are back
  23. Classic Harry Carey moment with ball lost in sun.
  24. In the unlikely event that they keep Fields, they’d absolutely still have to draft a QB somewhere. That would likely entail trading out from 1 and getting a haul, including 2nd day picks this year. You can’t go Fields/Bagent/Peterman?. Keep the pipeline flowing.
  25. Mac Jones going to Jacksonville for a 6th. He’s a good healthy step below Fields, but when it’s obvious you are moving on from a disappointing qb, it’s tough to get much in the way of value. Bears might need an offseason injury to a returning qb to juice demand.
