  1. Right, but they were a thing that used to happen before they went away. I used to go to games that started after work when I spent summers in Chicago during college. Harry and Steve used to spend half the broadcast talking about the inevitable shadow over home plate closer in the sun situation that would happen when the game started that late.
  2. Yeah, there should be no retired numbers, but I will take half as a start.
  3. I thought they were? Either way, they're awesome and there needs to be more of them. I'm pretty sure they were a thing, then went away, then came back. Either way, what this has to do with television broadcasts is beyond me. The Cubs screwed the pooch by having an unwatchable product for 5 years. They screwed over television partners (not to mention fans) by being so bad for so long, which drove down ratings and made their product a tough sell. Being on at 1:20 one day at 7:05 another day has nothing to do with anything.
  4. 3:05 Friday games are not new
  5. Simmons probably wasn't suspended for calling Goodell a liar, it was more about daring ESPN to suspend him. And they were probably more than happy to use it has an opportunity to change the topic.
  6. Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein completely disagree with you.
  7. I'm so confused, are they playing right now?

  9. that's not how stuff works

  11. gonna have to agree. white on white is awful blue on blue can work in theory, but the completion percentage is very low.
  12. This isn't baseball. Football coaches in general tend to do a better job of giving jobs to the best option.
  13. What happens if you turn a big chunk of those sac bunts into K?
  14. Not sure why we should assume health improves during the season while they are still playing. Because Marshall and Jeffery were both improved on Monday? Marshall got re-injured. Maybe the MNF injury doesn't happen if he didn't already have a bad ankle, but Jeffery went from out 2nd half week 1, to not being able to stretch it out and go deep week 2, to having no visible limitations going deep or elevating in week 3, to not on the injury report to start week 4. Marshall was better physically in SF than he was to end Week 1. He was better physically to start Week 3 than he was to start Week 2. If your argument is the risk of re-injury, it's not really going to change at any point without extended rest. That is some really odd thinking. Marshall has been hurt in every game and was hurt again on Monday. He would have been unavailable to practice today. Getting hurt early in the season is bad and assuming they will improve throughout the season, while still playing, is silly.
  15. Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell · 1m The Bears will wear their replica 1940's throwback jerseys Sunday against the Packers.

  17. more open minded, not particularly enthusiastic
  18. Yet he gets to date Olivia Munn. Front. He's gay as sandals. I'll amend... Yet he gets to pretend to date Olivia Munn. Well, you say "gets to", but if that is true then it would be more like "feels forced to", and that's no good. And it's not like the world's biggest douches haven't been tied to beautiful celebrities before.
  19. I admit...I'd probably enjoy the quotes if they were from Jay. But Rodgers says them and it just makes me want to punch him. when reading them I'm not sure what you would get so worked up about
  20. I don't think MLB suffers from a lack of fan exposure to the Yankees and Red Sox. No, they don't. But there's a large nationwide fan base for more than those two teams, which MLB could capitalize on with more nationwide televised games. Logistically it would be a nightmare, filling the left over time slots, etc. I just wondered if it's the next step, to actually improve ratings (without addressing the elephant in the room- making the game more suited to short attention span viewers who demand rapid recurring action). I think the point with MLB is no, there isn't a large nationwide fan base for multiple teams. They have lots of nationally televised games and people don't watch them. And, unlike NFL, people do not watch games involving teams other than their own. A Steelers fan is more likely to watch Packers vs the Rams than a Pirates fan watching Brewers vs Cardinals. Nationally televised baseball is already widely available on a regular basis. Cubs fans watch Cubs games. Those that do not live in Chicago have plenty of options to see Cubs games.
  21. I think part of the playoff odds things are based on how well the team has played (not just record) as well as remaining schedule. So that makes sense to me.
  22. You'd think mlb security would have a stricter vetting process for team pilots
  23. Javy at 235 lbs? That's kind of hard to believe.
