  1. According to ESPN, the Pirates clinched a spot in the playoffs but still only have a 99.9% chance of making the playoffs.
  2. I don't think MLB suffers from a lack of fan exposure to the Yankees and Red Sox.
  3. Hell yeah Keith.
  4. I think they used the bribe of hosting an all star game in 2016 during the course of negotiating for the Wrigley renovation. It was tied into the Cubs moving into Weegham (Wrigley) in 1916. 2016 is supposed to be an AL park, though. So who knows.
  5. As soon as next season? Almost certainly no. By 2020 or so? Not out of the question. I'd bet it's out of the question. There is a lot of money tied up in cable deals that depend on being the exclusive in-market homes for local teams. How big of a check does MLB want to cut to each of these RSNs? I guess I don't understand why MLB wouldn't want it to be viewable in the "local" area if you're already able to see it on cable. Just have another tier it runs on and show all the commercials like they do on TV and cable gets their cut from having additional eyeballs watching. Cables co's assume they will lose subscribers if those people have the choice to not subscribe to cable. They want to use live sports channels as a way to keep you locked into play $0.35 for the food network and $0.55 for E! etc. etc. It used to be about fooling random shmoes who don't care about sports to still have to pay for those channels by keeping them on regular tiers, but it is also becoming about forcing fans of local sports team to pay $ for all the channels they don't care about.
  6. I want it to happen just to see that fight. I'd guess a new team would have to pay them off to the tune of $1B combined.
  7. it will be interesting once this team starts facing competent quarterbacks.
  8. Population does matter. Florida is a lost cause for just about anything and that is besides the point. But population absolutely matters.
  9. Miami is the 8th largest metro area in the country. Population does not equal ticket sales. Lack of population, and financial strength, can very easily equal lack of ticket sales.
  10. I didn't notice him very much at all. I did not either.
  11. It might have changed. I think I might have been looking at the line before yesterday's game. Same site that said Bears -1 now says GB -1, the over/under also dropped from 51 to 49.

  13. Now, an EPIX channel commercial?
  14. McDonough is either drunk or a terrible public speaker.
  15. McDonough representing the Blackhawks after the DC mayor spoke.
  16. I am not sure why you believe that is what we are saying but it is not what I am saying. My stance is they should be willing to let him sit this week if the need arises, not that I am ruling him out on Tuesday.
  17. I think "completely ineffective" is far too low of a threshold for playing Marshall.
  18. Capitals/NHL doing a winter classic press conference shortly
  19. This is why I wouldn't rule him out today, but it has to be considered. Something else to consider are the roster limitations involved with activating a WR who might not be able to play a full game. Ideally Marshall can go, but a less than 100% (or reasonable facsimile) Marshall might not be as helpful toward beating the Packers as the other guy who would be left inactive on the day.
  20. Somebody mentioned giving Marshall a rest and you said you don't see it because he's been playing hurt all season. But we should see how his effectiveness is? The season is only 3 games in and his effectiveness has been severely limited. His 3 TD in SF were great but do not change the fact that his effectiveness has already been limited. I don't get how you "can't see it" but also want to wait and see how his effectiveness will be affected when we have already seen plenty of evidence of him being limited by his injury. It's really simple. His injuries have been a problem already and the fact that he hasn't gotten through a game healthy yet all year is probably a good reason to seriously consider giving him a full week off.
  21. this again? Yes, he had some bright shiny moments, but his health very clearly limited him in that game. The fact he scored touchdowns on very short fields does not change the other fact that he is very banged up and it has affected his play. Those three TD should have absolutely no influence on the decision to play or rest him this week. He's banged up and it has gotten worse. I already said the question is his effectiveness, so why don't you stop with this nonsense? Or are you just in a bad mood (again)? Because you are somehow acting as if his effectiveness has not been affected and that 3 TD in SF is at all meaningful to the discussion.

  23. I can't see it unless he really can't go (which might be the case now). He's already played injured for most of the season. I think the real question is his effectiveness, which was fine in the 49ers game but wasn't last night. Why can't you see it? It's only been three games and he's seemingly on the verge of falling apart. There is a lot of time left this year and missing one game now could go a long way to preserving him for a potential playoff run. Marshall was not effective for the entire SF game, he was worthless for a while.

  25. Oh one other memory. The MetLife banner ad had a Planters Peanut ad up that said something like the "power of the peanut" and quick thinking me got a little video of it, just prior to the next play (Bears on defense), hoping for a peanut punch for artistic reasons. But it ended up being that big ass play by the Jets and I deleted it.
