    Are you surprised? This is the same thing me and WF22 were complaining about. They don't have a football guy at the top, they don't follow a proper chain of command. Phillips and mccaskey have their hand in the cookie jar regardless if Accorsi is there or not. Jesus you're an irrational loon.

    Some guys can only be interviewed now or you have to wait for weeks. It is perfectly reasonable that they would interview these guys to get the process started so that once a GM is hired they will only have to let him interview these guys again. It's a lot better than not showing any interest in them and allowing potential candidates to be ignored.

    Peyton Manning has a strong relationship with Jimmy Haslam? Why? Big ties to Tennessee. His brother is the Governor...his college roommate is a Senator...big donor to the athletic dept...was apparently on the board of directors for University of Tennessee Athletics. Ahh, bell ringing now.

    If he was a CFL exec before but has been in the NFL for the past 10+ years, he's got a leg up on Trestman.

    I wanted lovie gone because of his defense 1st special teams 2nd offense last mentality and his inability to win enough. But it's revisionist history to suggest the defense was anything Less than quite good.

    Yes. I think a pretty significant part of the reason the defense fell as far as it did was coaching and, given what we've heard about the Lovie guys not buying in, probably motivation to some degree. The other major reason was a ton of injuries which, who knows. Butterfly effect and such. I think the 2013 defense would have been better with Lovie, but the offense would have been worse and they would not have won enough.

    This may be the craziest thing you've ever posted here, and that's saying something. Lovie's teams won because of the defense. Lovie's focus was on the defense. The defense, however, would not have been immune to the wall of age it ran into if Lovie stuck around. If anything, Lovie got out at the right time because last year probably would have been even worse under him. They had successfully cycled through top defensive players while not bottoming out in the past. Tommie Harris, agunleye, alex brown, vasher, mike brown etc. lovie was good at getting guys into his system. I have no doubt the defense would have continued to be better than average. He shuffled news guys into his system but he did not do that at all in the latter half of his tenure. That was a big part of the problem. Starting with the 2007 draft he had more influence and it backfired.

    It had something to do with it, because he did ignore it in the draft. He went 5 years without a linemen taken in the top 4 or 5 rounds. That is just too long to ignore 45% of your starting offense that regularly uses 6 or 7 guys in a season.

    Yes. The problem was not that Angelo "ignored" it. His first pick was an OT who was probably on pace to be decent before breaking. They spent a lot of money on free agents. They actually set-up a good like but those guys also fell apart and Angelo failed by being content with the line for several years and not providing a steady stream that would be ready to step in when the old guys died. He spent more 1st round picks on OT than any other position.

    He was asked to give input on the next hire and the Bears chose the guy he listed last (if story is true). It's kind of weird that he was asked but if you are asked and they go a completely opposite direction it makes perfect sense why you would be upset and is really weird that you don't understand.

    I completely buy that people did not want to be involved in situations where you had to keep the head coach, or you had to use certain assistants. I do not buy that quality people are choosing to stay away from the Bears because of the presence of Ted Phillips. There has been no indication whatsoever that he is a meddler, that he has input on draft day or tries to go around people's backs. You read about that kind of nonsense with many teams out there, including Oakland, SF and to a lesser extent the Jets.

    Sure, I just think the talk from some about how he needs to go as part of cleaning house is often an overreaction; if the guy is good with the "business" side of thing and the McCaskeys are comfortable with him in that role then shifting him to that isn't a problem. It's not like a coach or management figure who can't (or, lets be realistic, almost always wouldn't) be shifted like that. Yea, and it's not even a question of him meddling in the personnel decisions, but him being ultimately responsible for targeting the man who is. If this next hire fails again, is Phillips sharing the blame or is is Accorsis fault? He'll have had three hires using three different techniques. At a certain point you have to recognize even non-traditionally sports businessmen can do a better job picking the sports guys. I'd argue they did a fine job with the hire prior to Emery. Angelo and Lovie together built a very good football team. Lovie failed to fix the offense but that was hardly the fault of Ted. If Ted is gone, does anybody think they will suddenly start making more informed football decisions at the Board level?

    I still have no idea what Hub could be talking about other than the same "does he have naked photos of Dusty" stuff we all joked about with (insert worthless player here). Unless Ted Phillips literally knows where bodies lie and is blackmailing the family, there is no reason why he cannot be removed. The fact is the family does not want him removed. They want him as their buffer between the board of directors and the actual company that is the Chicago Bears. I can't believe any football man would want to be in that position and any man who has served in that role probably regrets getting involved in the non-football side of the business.

    Part of DeCostas tie to Balt is also due to his wife's family I believe. NY/NJ also works in that favor over Chicago. On the other hand, the Jets ownership is as odd ducky and untrusted as the Bears, and the Jets have an even more wackadoodle "aura" about them than the Bears have.

    Yeah, I do not think it is at all. They said they hadn't even discussed with him the specific work Accorsi was going to do for them as of the press conference. I would imagine Accorsi has a list of his own and will talk to some other people to get a few more names before presenting them to George and Ted.

    I doubt they had a specific name in mind. I think they were thinking generally in terms of the types of guys that would require/be worth a change in structure, both coaches and GMs. And they were probably told by Accorsi that they should say something like that.
