  1. If by athleticism you mean "runs fast," yeah, it's been there all along. @BenBadler Matt Szczur now in CF. Guy looks like he could deadlift a school bus if he wanted to (from 7/2011) 2,137 MiLB PA .379 SLG Don't be obtuse. Why is that obtuse?
  2. He's also from a small town about 25 miles from the town that Mike Trout grew up in, so he's poised to burst onto the scene.
  3. yeah, i really hate that aspect of it. i wish we were just a random opening day game instead of opening night. we will be a punchline everywhere that night and monday morning. not after we hit 4 dongs off wainwright and lester and our bullpen shuts those cardinal bastards out All those dongs will just delay construction further as they search for the balls among the girders and check for damage.
  4. Jay Mariotti @MariottiSports · 9m 9 minutes ago Someone is hacking my Twitter feed. I did not tweet that. Jay Mariotti @MariottiSports · 16m 16 minutes ago I farted!
  5. this is going to look so shitty on tv
  6. It's certainly not just Chicago local. That is about all the Mets broadcasters will talk about during a Cubs game. And it has definitely been a huge topic when ESPN has shown the Cubs, although they probably haven't aired more than a handful of games during this pathetic run.
  7. fred will get jealous
  8. is there any way that giant crane isn't chewing up the grass?
  9. all star break? wtf are they worried about this court decision or what? shouldn't take nearly that long to put up. Best Buy was running low on inventory

  11. Apparently it will take place at Wrigley Field Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 23s23 seconds ago #Cubs Green blasts rumors about safety of Wrigley Field. Details Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 1m1 minute ago Julian Green adds #MLB not mad or disappointed in #Cubs with Wrigley and did not intervene Details Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 1m1 minute ago #Cubs Julian Green says Cubs will play at Wrigley Sunday and did not consider U,S. Cellular Field.
  12. Maybe I had tuned out by then, but weren't we the world's worst return team last year? Didn't it take us to around week 10 to return a kick past the 20? I think it wasn't until week 11 until Mariani began to play.
  13. Eh, they "agreed" to it is hardly an argument against them complaining about it. Ownership's job is to exploit the agreement to their financial benefit. Just because you agreed to it doesn't mean you should be okay with however it is implemented. Also, it is standard operating procedure to let it be known what you are unhappy about in advance of negotiations. A few thoughts: - Go ahead and complain, but you only create greater acrimony when it comes time to bargain. - Just because something is a SOP doesn't mean its a good idea. - Both sides seek to exploit CBA's and the inevitably vaguely defined terms and concepts contained therein; its not exclusive to management. If you weren't a Cubs fan you would not care. The only people taking offense to this "posturing" are Cubs management and Cubs fans.

  15. It is kind of strange that they would come out so strongly, considering Bryant will end up taking the job of one of their current members. The union always advocates most strongly on behalf of those players that have the potential to make the most money. You can argue it has probably been a very effective concept. While the minimum wage guys are no better off today than they were 20 years ago, the "average" player can now make insane amounts of money if he ever reaches free agency, in part due to all the money teams spend on the super stars.
  16. How so? The only 2 question marks are 3B and LF. I'd think we're likely to be above average to really good everywhere else, and possibly even at those 2 spots depending on who ends up there (i.e Bryant in LF and Olt/Russell at 3B). If we didn't have so many GD threads all over the place this would be easier to keep track of but it does seem like the Cubs have expectations of a questionable defense going into 2015. Unless I am reading this wrong they only have one quality defensive position expected next year, at 1B. CF and SS are the worst.
  17. While I agree with the concept of the board itself being the home page, if for some reason that is not possible or desirable, can you link it to the most active topics? During the season you'd have game threads, the occasional transaction and topic du juor that may be of interest to new visitors. In the offseason you would have transactions and other sports.
  18. That would suggest that you don't Kay, which could suggest you avoid cheap jewelry, which is fine. But the other interpretation is that you are a mysoginist psychopath like Michael corleone. The emphasis is on the "r" to sound out the word.
  19. Great job, you've turned him into Jaxon 2.0 Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 1m1 minute ago Mesa, AZ Five consecutive batters reach base vs. Hendricks, who is pulled with 1 out in 6th.
