  1. US men’s soccer is doing US men’s soccer stuff
  2. Can’t wait to just get so pissed off at the tv every Sunday
  3. Mervis was never a prospect
  4. Disagree, he should square around before every pitch and only occasionally pull back and swing
  5. Good for Motorola for still existing, I guess
  6. While I get the hype around the defense, the lack of pass rush really makes me doubt the group as a whole when it comes to overall rankings with the best. There should be a reasonably high floor for both the defense and the offense, and I’d sign up for top 15 by both groups. I don’t have a lot of faith in Eberflus but a quality season will end with little controversy about any of the coaches keeping their jobs. If we’re begging for an OC upgrade or Eberflus to be let go then the season has gone off the rails.
  7. I think plenty of teams go with multiple stud receivers for a couple years until they can’t afford it. This trio won’t be together for long, but if they can be for 2 years I’d take it.
  8. Good teams sign good players to extensions all the time. You can’t win without keeping your best players for more than a couple years. and while it was theoretically “unnecessary” because he had two years remaining, that ignores the reality of the situation. You are basically daring him to become a problem next offseason. This team has cap space now. Sign him now to a reasonable number or wait a year and give him more. Both sides had some leverage to not get screwed over.
  9. Brad Biggs covered this eerily similarly to how the Blackhawks beat writers covered their extensions. He was blatantly underpaid and a good sport about it, well deserved.
  10. Offseason over, its preseason time now, baby
  11. As expected Williams and other starters won’t play HOF game
  12. I wish I could get enjoyment out of their misery but I really only care about cubs baseball and there’s been nothing fun about this season.
  13. That’s some seriously weird roster building if true. Classic Jed half measures
  14. Really? Paredes makes 3.4m and Pearson the minimum. Were they really all that close to the cap? Don’t they only take on 1.2 from Paredes?
  15. Do you think you have uncovered some hidden agenda by pointing out I don’t believe in the core? I don’t. I’ve said it multiple times. Nobody should. It is severely lacking. Not a difference maker in the bunch. I didn’t believe in Morel either. It’s painfully obvious this team needs a major shakeup. They aren’t a filled black hole away from being a top contender. There are flaws all over the place. Hoerner has value, and doesn’t have a no trade clause so you can move on from the guy and get back quality. I’d rather trade Dansby but that’s a separate issue. I can’t imagine a world where Hoerner signs another contract with this team, so make the most of his value while he still has it.
  16. For what? I have no problem trading Shaw. But I also have no faith in a defense first limp bat 2B with an history of heath issues exiting his prime being of great use to a hopefully competitive Cubs team in the near future.
  17. AAA is a worthless step in the process that will almost certainly be taken sometime this season anyway. I didn’t say they’d get his production with just his money. I very clearly said it would be replaced by three factors combined. the bottom line is this core isn’t taking this team anywhere and Nico probably isn’t playing for this team into his 30s. If you can get value for him now in lost season there is a very justifiable reason to do so.
  18. By whatever you get back in the trade plus the money plus a rising prospect taking his position, presumably Shaw.
  19. It makes a ton of sense to trade Hoerner now. He’s been an injury waiting to happen throughout his youth and isn’t young anymore. He’s done the best he can be and it isn’t all that great. Defensive led WAR doesn’t last with age at athletically centric positions (probably). I think Hoerner can be replaced in 2025. Taillon less so. You need 7+ quality starting pitchers to go through a season and remain competitive. I’m not against trading him at the deadline because teams overpay for starting pitching midseason, but I see no point in trading him in the offseason when you are unlikely to get as much in return and still need pitchers for 2025.
  20. Don’t know anything about the acquisition but it was obvious morel was not long for this team a year ago so, cool?
  21. Theoretically it is possible but owners are primarily risk averse cowards that want guaranteed profits. Some are willing to risk a loss for greater gains. But if profits are guaranteed there is little to no incentive to take the risks.
