  1. that would be standard operating procedure. A guy who misses 2-4 weeks typically gets a few PA in a handful of games before he is called back. If he missed 6 months he would probably get more time. But he doesn't need to stay down for more than 2-3 games.
  2. THAT'S OVER 40%!!!
  3. It is a demonstration of his ability to make adjustments. Adjustments to minor league pitchers. Adjustments to the best pitchers he's seen yet. And he's done it at every level he's been to outside of the majors to this point. which all means very little in comparison to just his overall body of work. The he always sucks early then gets better narrative is just a built in excuse to suck early and act as if it doesn't matter.
  4. Yeah, right thing to do after not trading sharp last year. Default right thing to do. The two greatest words in the English language, de fault I love all the Monday morning QB from you involving Patrick Sharp. He is a season removed from his best as a Hawk, yet Stan should have traded him? Well, I will be polite and just say there isn't much reason for you to know anything about what I have posted in the past. But it is very inaccurate to call it monday morning QB when I've been hoping and calling for a Sharp trade for a very long time.
  5. I love the idea of trading for Hamels but have very little interest in using Schwarber in that deal.

  7. I really do not get the faith in the "he sucked at every level then improved" argument.
  8. why do you think it is horrible? NHL has guaranteed contracts, unlike the NFL, and guys hit free agency at incredibly young ages. There's no 6-year service time before you make any money. And it doesn't have the salary cap shenanigans that the NBA allows. I think the cap, which also came with a floor when implemented, works as advertised and players are as good off as they have ever been.
  9. Essentially, he ignored the analytical tools other teams used. The money was there. The payroll increased steadily throughout the era and the Cubs climbed from the middle of the NL to the top. They invested in the farm system but they foolishly tried to copy the Braves by building with pitching and while that did eventually work, it lasted about 1.5 years because pitchers are pitchers. They were miserable acquirers of hitters. They could not draft and develop them, and constantly had to go out to the market to buy them which was not cost effective. They lucked out with Sosa who covered for a lot of weaknesses but they hurt by Hendry's old school ways, including hiring a potentially more old school coach when the team should have been at their best.
  10. so he has a 3.3m cap hit this year then it goes up to 4.55. They still have a lot of cap work to do.
  11. [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. 'Twas the tale of two eras for me. Macphail was legit in charge of a real turnaround but also in charge of the stagnation.
  13. Ladd was better than saad? I considered Ladd a nic piece that was tough to lose but saad seemed more useful.

  15. This move saves very little from what the cap situation was a day ago. People factored in ~4m for saad and they took back players.
  16. I really wished they traded sharp when he still had value He was so tradable for a couple years there and they wouldn't have missed a beat.
  17. So does the saad offer sheet still come in or does that other team not even bother? I assume Columbus has plenty of cap space which would make an aggressive offer less useful.
  18. It can never be a lateral move at worst if you lose the best player in a trade. Oh, you are in one of those moods. Feel free to wristslash away. Eat a dick Kyle. It was stupid to call it lateral at worst.
  19. I can't fault saad at all.
  20. It can never be a lateral move at worst if you lose the best player in a trade.
  21. Is this really better than picks? Yes. Dano is being underrated in this thread. So they lose him next year.
  22. Plenty of what?
  23. Is this really better than picks?
  24. Odds are, nobody was willing to take Patrick Sharp or if they were, the Blackhawks weren't willing to give him up for free. As I've said, Patrick Sharp has been horrific since January 2014 and teams know this and know he's not getting any younger. The Blackhawks demands for him were always outrageous. The reported demand a were probably not close to true.
