    Quality management goes against ownership’s wishes constantly in the world of business and sports because owners by and large are oblivious to operational needs. And the good ones know that fact.

    The play call isn’t made with assumption of single coverage on Chase. If there was single coverage on Chase it’s on the veteran pro bowl qb to recognize that matchup. it’s not like they handed off to a guard or ran an option or some other silly bears nonsense. They called lots of plays that succeeded and scored lots of points but lost because the Ravens offense was unstoppable.

    What was wrong with the play call? I was not watching closely but looked to be a mismatch with a tight end on smaller db and a quick pass on the goaline that sailed on Burrow while there were half a dozen Ravens committing penalties. I thought it was interesting to go for 2 in the first place with more than 30 seconds to go and Baltimore then only needing a fg in regulation to win. Seemed like damned if you do damned if you don’t when the opposing offense is scoring every single drive. I think it’s silly to watch that game and come away thinking the play callers are equally as bad as the bears play caller.

    It’s not premature when there has been plenty of evidence for 3 years that Eberflus isn’t the guy. I mean, there was very little hope when they hired a coordinator off a mediocre organization that he would ever be the guy. The team quit on multiple occasions in 2022. That Giants game in particular was a master class in giving a game away. They blew a bunch of winnable games in 2023. His coaching staff imploded last year. He hired the most generic OC possible who’d never been a part of successfully developing a young qb. He lost the Commanders game. And his team quit in Arizona. This isn’t a new thing.     That’s sick, bro. Anyway. I don’t think anybody who makes decisions is feeding this guy definitive end of season decisions. A lot can happen between now and black Monday. They could accidentally win 4 more games and convince people they are on the rise again, or they could completely fall apart. It is probably true that people in positions of power feel the need to calm the waters right now, before the meat of the schedule even happens. its kind of interesting to me that nobody I’ve heard of in bears media is talking about Eberflus as if he has job security.

    Coming from his socioeconomic background I doubt PCA would be interested in a team friendly extension, and I can’t think of another guy who has earned one

    Several goaline play calls that were abysmal. multiple games with the two best playmakers on the team completely ignored. he needed an old ass 7th string tight end to encourage him to actually coach zero good first quarters regardless of competition he’s a deer in the headlights

    I don’t read much into it. You can tweak an ankle mid play as going out of bounds and realize you are fine for next play. Or you could quit on play going out of bounds. the bigger issue is DJ and Kmet not being utilized is a regularly occurring theme with this offense. Whether that is OC or QB related doesn’t matter. Caleb obviously bonded with Keenan Allen before anybody else on this team but it’s on the OC and QB to put the ball in the hands of better players.

    Pretty hysterical lede, citing the aggressive top of market signing of Lester that went down as greatest free agent signing in Chicago history, following with obvious need to address top end starter this offseason, 7 years after they last did it with Darvish. and then, “well these top guys are out of reach this year.” A more cowardly statement has never been issued: “How do you allocate those dollars as safely as you can?” Hoyer said.

    Not quite black Monday territory but the NFL coaching carousel is in full motion, with the Raiders firing Getsy and two other assistants while the Saints canned Dennis Allen. With several others on the hot seat, Daboll, Pederson, McCarthy, there may not be enough names left for the actual black Monday. Eberflus can have the spotlight to himself that day.

    I don’t like it either, but at least it’s an honest assessment and shows us where this team is at internally.

    I think he lost the room when he hired Waldron. He’s such a pud, no charisma or personality. He’s been walked all over by veterans early on. Just a disastrous hire to develop a young qb. When a guy like Mercedes Lewis, who caught 10 balls over previous two years, feels comfortable calling you out in public from day one, your chances aren’t strong to win over the room.

    It’s Greg Olsen 2.0 but if you aren’t going to target Kmet but you are going to keep the garbage coach that won’t use him, you should trade him.
