  1. god damn DH is dragging this team to its death
  2. Nobody we see has any reaction. Then maybe he's talking to someone not in the gif. Maybe, maybe. Or is that one of those bats that has an internal noise mechanism and he's just hearing it after the bat clears? I think he may be possessed.
  3. Is there anything about the state of Texas that isn't terrible? [tweet] [/tweet]
  4. I've had quite a few mets/pirates/cardinals fans talk about this season and how early it is and they are still the Cubs and when I just reiterate that it's over, they all sheepishly realize that is the case.
  5. the sharp edge of the plastic casing at the end of the bat (holding the ball) whiffed his head Did it? I was thinking he was just reacting to the whoosh of air. Like, "whoa, is there a bird landing on me?" There's no way that touched him. The kid is way behind, and if it did touch him the guy reacted long after he got hit. But he didn't get hit.
  6. how the hell does a third base coach end up there?
  7. it seems pretty obvious doesn't it? i mean, yeah. guess that was a dumb thing to say. but i wonder who is behind it. the side piece's husband
  8. It was a myriad of threads spread across several years of suffering. Just start browsing the archives. start with the jim hendry was fired thread
  9. Their [expletive] closer blew a three run lead in the 9th yesterday chokers gonna choke
  10. Yeah but that's not what you said. It's May 4th. Lester had a 1.76 ERA in May last year. He had terrible BAPIP luck in April, as evidenced by a 6.23 ERA and a 2.21 FIP. He's really good, along with the rest of this team. Enjoy it. Sorry I didn't equate the time frame, and I didn't realize Lester was that good last May. I just remember last april vs. how he ended the season. In general it's just safe to not "remember" a time when Lester was bad with the Cubs because Lester has been a great pitcher for the Cubs.
  11. Javy has definitely embraced "Respect 90" this year. Yesterday he nearly beat out 2 different routine grounders that had no business being close. He didn't respect 127 on that throw
  12. In 21 years following this team, I have never once seen or heard a reference to a Cubs team chaplain that I can remember. That obviously doesn't mean there hasn't been one, (and I don't really doubt that there has been) but yeah.
  13. If we're just looking at it odds-wise, it would be a 15 or 16 seed winning the NCAA tournament. Those teams were all at least 2000-1 this year. Yeah. Like Wolf pointed out, though, sustaining that performance over 36 games and being that much better than all these other moneyed sides just doesn't have a good analog. Maybe like one of those dumpster fire Pirates teams with a $58 dollar payroll from 10 years ago winning the World Series? It would be a lot harder for a team like that to roll through the 162 game regular season to qualify for the playoffs and then advance through multiple stages of the playoffs and win the world series than to just have the best record after 36 games.
  14. It's very early May and Pittsburgh weather sucks balls
  15. What? Wasn't the whole point of Zobrist that he can move around and Maddon previously used him by moving him around? It's a little late in the game for him to stop being okay with moving around.
  16. I was bracing for something interesting but was not at all prepared for that one.
  17. So southern conference voted against, northern conferences voted for. What a random coincidence. Is this sarcasm?
  18. I believe 1998 was the beginning. Starting that year it became a hotter ticket. They set an attendance record the next season despite sucking, the whole buying online in February idea was born and while they stayed bad a couple more years the mood was set. Bleachers seats on weekends were $100, and bleacher expansion ideas began to get kicked around, so that going into 2003, it was the stage was set.
