  1. Is this implying that the Cubs fans are bandwagoners? If so, that's an awfully rich claim on a night when the paid attendance was 18,000 last night. When is the last time the Cubs had a paid attendance of 18,000? The 80s? Pirates fans aren't bandwagoners, they don't support a winning team as much as they don't support a losing team.
  2. That's how sports execs contract talks work. They aren't trying to lock up a pitcher through his arb years.
  3. we should start every game thread with that statement about you
  4. it wouldn't be Cubs @ Pittsburgh without rain
  5. The Atlantic or The Athletic?
  6. but porter is still 29
  7. freeman, hoyer, miller plus you got willie young and manny ramirez
  8. from a fast track / slow track standpoint it is garbage. But it hasn't been particularly dangerous to the health of players.
  9. [tweet] [/tweet] I'm not familiar with talk of the practice facilities having terrible surfaces. It wouldn't surprise me, but I also think this may be an old man hoping for teams to look past his age and injury and give him one last contract.
  10. trouble falling asleep? Listen to this scout talk shop [tweet] [/tweet]
  11. I see a lot of people lamenting the Bears lack of a developmental QB and while that is par for the course in the never ending concern about Cutler, it's not really a big deal. Jay is 33, he's signed longterm and his cap hit is fairly low the next three years. 17/16/17 If you are desperate to replace him, you needed a QB this year. If you aren't desperate to replace him, you didn't need one. A Connor Cook in the 4th may have made sense but it was probably a better idea to use your 4th round and better picks on guys that can help the team this year.
  12. You qualify OG and OT as separate position groups? I don't think I've ever seen that, just OL. I'd say the LB group has to be the biggest strength. I can't really think of 2 other groups I would qualify as a strength. OL should be okay, but they are weak at tackle. WR may turn into a strength but I wouldn't qualify it so right now. Not with two brittle guys accounting for the entire group. I don't think TE matters enough to be considered a true weakness. They aren't great there but that position isn't going to lose them games. The RBs and DBs may be weak, but could be okay. This team is filled with "won't embarrass you" types.
  13. I don't like cuttin slauson at all
  14. I don't understand people being even remotely upset about the trade up. They moved up 2 spots and gave up a 4th (which they got back in 24 hours) for a guy they wanted that the Giants 100% would have taken based on all reports. The Bears identified a group of players as elite, a notch above the others and they got the last of that group. Not counting the QBs, that group was Elliott, Buckner, Ramsey, Bosa, Floyd, and maybe Stanley. Floyd was the last of that group and clearly they liked him more than guys like Hargreaves, Lawson and Rankins. I also wouldn't say I agree with your other points. I think the offense will try and do plenty. I also don't think they're THAT thin, but there's going to be a lot of "hoping" with this group. You gotta hope the OTs hold up. Hope Jeffery and Royal stay healthy. Hope White is ready to have a huge role. Hope Langford is the guy he flashed to be when Forte was out last year. Hope Miller stays healthy. I do think it's going to be a heavy run and short pass team though. But the Bears do have a decent group of guys who you can get the ball to early and let them make plays in Jeffery, White, Royal, and Langford. Not a lot of different weapons but if White is really as close to Amari Cooper as he is supposed to be, he and Jeffery will be about as good as it gets in this league as a combo. Because I don't buy Floyd as worthy of trading up for. He's quite flawed. I also thought they should have had the balls to draft Tunsil there. I'm not pissed at the situation, just not in love with it either.
  15. I wasn't all that happy with the trade up for Floyd but in general I think I really like this draft probably because of the volume of picks plus getting a potential 2016 o line starter. It looks like the plan is to shutout as many teams as possible and then not screw up on offense. It's going to be ugly but could be fruitful at least against the mediocre teams. They are extremely thin at offensive skill positions. They are going to need cutler and the line to carry them.
  16. Because he's a shitty country singer

  18. Probably has to go to cliffside malibu
  19. if they were actually good, having two corners who are brothers would be the coolest thing ever. they all better be (i'm sorry, I apologize, that was bad, I will walk away now)
  20. I don't understand the question. That tweet just implies that he might be back tomorrow, which would be to say "well, of course he wouldn't need DL time." it's called day to day. it's a common thing
  21. some people have that TE as one of the BPA right now. I wouldn't hate it but I'm not a TE guy and I'm not sure any other offensive skills players are that exciting. I'd like to see OL addressed early but I'm not sure anybody stands out here. Might as well go bonkers with defense and take the best pass rusher or DT available.

  23. It better be a strength because they won't be lighting up the scoreboard. What is the front 7 depth right now? The 2 losers of the Unrein, Ferguson and Sutton battle. Ferguson and Sutton still have projectability left IMO. Houston who came on strong towards the end of the year, Willie Young, Acho and Christian Jones are solid depth. I get your point that they are ignoring the offense. It is a concern for me too, but a solid defense goes a long way to building a good football team, and its not like our offense is like 2000-2004 where there are absolutely no playmakers with garbage QBs. I do think we are going to struggle running the ball next year though and that concerns me. FYI I was asking about the defensive depth because I don't remember all the names right now. Like, can somebody draw up a theoretical line/lb depth chart?
