  6. there's nothing wrong with saying expletives to yourself because you aren't happy with the way things are going at any given point. But given how amazing the Cubs have been this year, it just looks really dumb to get up in arms over a couple less than inspiring games and choose to express that emotion out into the rest of the world
  7. The offense has scored 2 runs in 4 innings. 2 runs in each of the last 2 games, maybe 2 is all they get today as well. yep, they probably won't score more than 2 again the rest of the year. It's been 5 whole days since they've scored 8 runs, it'll probably never happen again.
  8. people here are bummed its not true
  9. Didn't he ask for a trade last year? That's why I thought it was odd. There were reports he asked for a trade after Jared Allen was traded. But the glowing/growing relationship stories came a couple months later, which should tell you that the team was feeding this to the beat guys and positive on him in general. I think the fact that it's May now should put a rest to there being any real surprise to them looking at an extension with him. They kept him at cut time and through the draft and are seemingly trying to build a competitive 2016 team on the strength of a rejuvenated defense. They've cut ties with plenty of other guys, and while teams often clean house in a system overhaul, that doesn't always mean everything/everybody must go. And the fact that they haven't cut ties with him yet, have cap space, still need bodies and fed positive stories to the press last December should at least make it plausible that they'd want to keep him past this season. That said, this could just be a negotiating tool with Alshon showing that the Bears are willing to extend established Emery era players. And maybe they cut him next week.

  12. Well, they have the space and need for bodies on defense and the coaches don't seem to view him as an odd fit. Not sure what's odd
  13. why surprise? there's been talk of the current regime liking him http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/ct-biggs-willie-young-bears-spt-1217-20151216-column.html
  14. Yankee Stadium bleachers around 96/97 timeframe. Joe Carter is playing right field for toronto. These were like $8 tickets. A row in front of us somebody brought along some European fans for their first baseball game and spent the entire game explaining stuff. I don't remember the accent specifically but imagine something between a french or german person speaking english. Maybe one of our belgish friends. Anyway, the game is going along and there's all the typical taunting, some show your "boobs" chants and regular bleacher shenanigans. It got quiet somewhere late in the game and our Euro friend stood up and yelled to Carter in his accent, "Joe Carter, I have done stuff with your wife!" Carter very clearly heard it and doubled over laughing, along with everybody in the bleachers. It wasn't clever, but it sounded hilarious at the time. Sidenote: Within an inning or two there was a massive brawl between fans in the bleachers (nothing to do with team allegiances everything to do with long island/staten island meatheadedness) and it was around this time that they made some new beer drinking rules in the bleachers.
  15. now, if there happened to be a time when greg faced off on his *brother* garry, that would not notable. alas, it never happened
  16. I know the difference. it doesn't make any sense for there to be any sort of emphasis on the word it makes sense just fine. it's a goofy fun fact (i'm not big on fun facts, but some people are) and the fact that it was his brother is what makes it "fun" (slightly) i don't think it really needed emphasis but i think it's probably weirder to be taken aback or bothered by it being emphasized enough to point it out. Going so far as to point out of the fact that mike maddux is greg maddux's brother takes care of the pointing out a fun fact. I don't think people are going to miss that by not adding some sort of [glow=purple]highlight[/glow] to that *factoid*
