  1. I guess I don't watch as much sportscenter as I used to, and had only heard of his attempt at baseballing here at NSB. I just kind of shrugged it off as a non-thing. I just don't get the hate, but if it is filling up people's news feed it would get old. Growing up in South Bend I grew to dislike Notre Dame because, when looking for Cubs news, all I could get in the paper or local news was that Lou Holtz's mother-in-law had a hangnail - front page. I could see it getting old. people in the twitterverse noted a couple days ago that MLB itself had promoted Tebow over social media far more frequently than they had the greatest player in the league, Trout.
  2. I don't know, maybe to make the playoffs or something i guess That makes a hell of a lot more sense for a good team with a solid chance at the playoffs looking to take a chance on a guy. Not the Bears.
  3. what's the point of a one year low risk deal? if you are a good team you consider that risk for the hope it gives you now. But if you are looking for longterm help like the Bears, why sign a guy who, best case scenario he performs well and isn't suspended this year, you are just going to have to make another risk decision next season. The optics of letting Cutler and Alshon go and signing Gordon are also iffy.
  4. Him hating them just reinforces how great they actually are. Says the guy who won't wear shorts. They're a novelty and completely cartoonish. When they wear those uniforms they should also have a keg at second base. No one passes until they chug a brewsky. Okay, you don't like them. But I really don't see the beer league softball comparison. It's classic 70's era baseball look. There's nothing beer league about them. These are beer league unis
  5. squarely in the middle of what? that'd be an amazing accomplishment by him.

  7. well, they were near the top in terms of pass protection last year, with Long out for a significant number of games. Massie graded out well because once he got comfortable, he really excelled. Leno is average to below average, but with the rest of the line doing well, it doesn't matter as much because you can help Leno. The fact that you can help a tackle doesn't support the theory that the line is a strength.
  8. this has always been the case with shows using celebrities/stars. they've used all kinds of olympians, football players and other athletes, but it's vaguely interesting that this is the first mlb player to participate. It takes place during the summer I assume so obviously current players can't participate, but there are lots of former players and I would have thought some 90's era yankees had participated or some former dodger. what percentage of the US population knows who Chris Kattan is without the benefit of Google? Probably a greater percentage than those that know who David Ross is. He was a really big part of the Will Ferrell era SNL and has been in movies. Baseball players pale in comparison to actual TV/Movie celebrities.

  10. Not sure alshon leaving is a fact.

  13. I read the article right before I saw alshon story. It's a rehash of stuff we've seen all winter. I'm not a jimmy g trade fan. I'd hate to give up any first as well as any 2018 pick. Good teams collect future picks, not trade them away.
  14. He is a bit of an oddball, isnt he? https://twitter.com/Ky1eLong/status/836334838034530304
  15. They have the cap space and should use it but they could theoretically make better use of it by spending on several players instead of spending $14m/year on Alshon. The determination for whether or not Pace is dumb has nothing to do with the Alshon franchise tag usage or lack thereof. It's not stupid to not tag him, and it's not even stupid to decide not to spend $14m/year on him in a longterm deal. The question is what else he'd do with the money. not resigning Alshon during the season was stupid. And your theory about what to do with the extra money is all fine, but who will Pace get? Berry? Bouye? Johnson? I doubt he gets any of them, and there is still the elephant in the room: KEVIN WHITE IS A BUST. I think having John Fox as head coach is the elephant in the room, but the bottom line is this team is still quite bad 2+ years into his tenure. I also think that too much is made about "letting" players go in the NFL. Time after time good teams let good players leave and find better use for the money and cap space. This team needs a ton of help and losing Alshon would mean they'd need more, but there's no reason why they couldn't make it work.

  18. maybe maybe not But if you're coming to that conclusion based on the fact that they won't franchise tag Alshon, I think that is misguided. I don't understand why he hasn't been resigned at this point, avoiding the franchise tag issue all together. But letting a #1 walk at 27 years old is stupid. They aren't going to resign him at this point in the world of salary cap sports, it might not make sense to pay Alshon top WR money, assuming that is what he wants. To date he hasn't had the career of a guy worth top WR money. The problem is not having much to replace him.
  19. you were wrong both times you said it
