  2. wait i just re-read this... are you implying that if you like the NBA there's no reason not to also like watching the WNBA, here, or are those separate thoughts? I don't watch the WNBA, but I don't watch the NBA or NCAAB either. That thing right there, just before the word that, is a period, used to denote the end of a sentence. The next sentence I wrote was I don't care about men's or women's track, but if you like one there really isn't much reason to not like the other. Those are two different sentences noting two different thoughts.

  4. He'd have to have a real huge year, and even then he'd probably need Chili Davis to get hired as a manager at a big market team with a need to sign a RF. So maybe Atlanta decides to go with Chili as their manager and open the checkbook to bring back Heyward who wants to stay with Chili and return to his first team. In other words, it's not happening.
  5. Is there a woman's sport worth watching, though (coming someone who has actually placed wagers in Vegas on WNBA games)? Tennis can be entertaining, I suppose. Then again, I don't even watch men's college sports (and only 3 pro ones) so I'm a bit of an elitist here. That's your horsefeathering takeaway? I've been thoroughly entertained by the US women's soccer team for a long time now. I enjoy women's hockey, curling, skiing, speed skating, swimming at the olympics, some gymnastics if forced to watch, the occasional women's golf major. Beach volleyball is an absolute pleasure. Tennis is significantly more entertaining than the men's game. I don't watch the WNBA, but I don't watch the NBA or NCAAB either. I don't care about men's or women's track, but if you like one there really isn't much reason to not like the other. Same with ice skating. UFC and all other combat sports are dumb things for stupid people to watch no matter the gender. Anyway, Andy Benoit wrote that Russell Wilson isn't that good even though he's tough to face because offensive coaches need to focus on making offenses predictable.

  7. Maybe, but they also lose Zobrist and possibly Morrow's money, with Lester and Chatwood the year after. 2 years from now you'll also have much more clarity on which of the position players you actually want to pay through arbitration(e.g. trade any/all of Schwarber, Russell, Baez if they don't improve). If they go that route you're also likely keeping Almora and Happ around, which furthers your flexibility in those years. Yeah this is my thinking too, you also potentially lose Q and Hendricks after 2020 (maybe 2021 with Hendricks?). That's a lot of money coming off, obviously you need to replace a lot of that pitching (hopefully some can be developed from within for cheap and not all needing to be bought) but they could hit the LT reset button in 2021. Also by some diving intervention there is a possibility of a Heyward opt out the next 2 offseasons or trade (obviously would have to eat some money but could reduce the overall obligation). "Losing" Lester, Chatwood, Morrow, Q and Hendricks' collective moneys off the payroll in 2020/2021 means you actually lose all those baseball payers to and then have to replace them all, mostly with other expensive baseball players. 30 million for Darvish and 40 million for Harper, plus a soon-to-be 30+ million for Bryant, and either a big extension for Rizzo or replacement player is going to be a tremendous burden.
  8. There is ZERO chance of signing Darvish. If you want Harper later, you can't have Darvish now. Why? What’s the thinking here? We could add Darvish with staying under the LT this year. In 2020 they will have a lot of commitments that would make it very difficult to fit Harper, Darvish and everybody else already here, into a budget.
  9. Is that a legit report or is that simply the result of the NY Daily thinking everything revolves around the Yankees? https://theathletic.com/184555/2017/12/14/rosenthal-machado-in-chicago-white-sox-are-serious-suitors-for-the-orioles-star/ It was a legit report from Rosenthal: there's been talk of the white sox trading and then flipping him, but it makes no sense that it would be a prearranged situation where Machado winds up on the Yankees simply because Angelos wouldn't want a direct deal with the Yankees. The only thing that does make sense is if they trade for him in an attempt to extend and/or contend this year, and then trade him at the deadline if they cannot keep him and aren't in contention.
  10. What this post presupposes is..., they are the Marlins.
  11. Considering his history of actually racking up saves, I would not be surprised if this guy became the nominal closer while the other guys were utilized in the earlier high leverage innings. This would especially be the case when they look to be facing a string of righties in the 9th.
  12. 4th or 5th? Morrow, Strop and Carl are all easily better. Monty may even rank ahead of him for me/some and if Wilson decides not to be a bum he could be better. Carl is not easily better. Carl walks way too many people and is far too prone to the blowup inning to be considered easily better. Carl could be the best of the group, but I don't think he's there yet. And by the looks of it, Cishek is very similar to Strop.

  15. Well they only actually get 1 full week off, as they have a full week of practice following the bye. I don't see any reason to try and balance BYE length. I think you're overthinking it here. You have your bye week, and some of those teams exit the bye with a Sunday game, some exit with a Thursday game and then 10 days until your next game. If you have a BYE in week 5, you play the Thursday of week 6, then the Sunday/Monday of week 7. Or, you have a bye week 5, play the Sunday/Monday of week 6 and Sunday/Monday of week 7.

  17. Are American teams more prepared to bring a guy back from such a surgery?
  18. Would think we are targeting a more durable option for the 5th spot? or a guy you can count on for ~125 innings with the expectation that smyly would be there by august?
