  1. You had a dude comfortable enough to make a racist gesture on TV there last night and loads of people making excuses for that guy today. We've seen the same excuses for Russell all along. People will give him a standing O just to stick it to any booers, and then there will be those who do it out of genuine admiration for him. He's getting an ovation. Not across the board, but it will be noticeable. i was wrong
  2. Again, this shouldn't have been a concern in dealing with him. Like, at all. I don’t necessarily disagree, but the reality is that he’s here and it might be the most realistic way to get him off the team at this point. (Not the easiest way or most moral, just the most realistic based on what is unfolding) Theo is definitely trying to thread the needle on this one and I don't think it's working. But the Cubs take the PR hit now making it easier for another team to take him later, he's gone in June and story is pretty much done by August. Maybe they get a reliever out of it.

  4. his wife is back on her bs https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwf-zgrBLkQ/
  5. Zobrist's personal issue was before Russell was called up. Zobrist played with Chapman. I don't think this is why he's on the restricted list. Zobrist's personal issue in spring training was rumored by some to be related to how the Cubs handled Russell.
  6. Which part? The part where you believe everyone who says they aren't familiar with that is trying to hide something. I said everyone who uses this stuff, not everyone who says they aren't familiar.
  7. I've been to Philly many times. I assume this means you aren't going to a Cubs game since they aren't there until mid-August. Phillies fans are generally much more tame than Eagles or Flyers fans towards opponents, but maybe not with division rivals. Tickets are not hard to come by. The stadium is located in one large complex with the football/hockey/basketball buildings. It's several parking lots linked together in an industrial part of town right between the airport and city center, which is an easy train ride away. There's one big douchey sports bar in the middle of the complex, and there was another connected to the baseball park. It was a McFadden's but they changed it. Chickie's & Pete's is like a Philly Chotchkie's, if you are into that sort of thing.
  8. Holy horsefeathers, Albert is fast? He's the same speed as the catcher.
  9. That is idiotic. Which part?
  10. oh andy, you came and your brought me a turkey on my vacation away from worky where's the new thread?
  11. I saw something saying he had some bad tweets. I'm sure the name is out there but I'm not bothering to look it up.
  12. completely anecdotal caveat: I know of a guy who voted trump, followed bannon and glenn beck, touts bitcoin, loves to make incendiary comments "as a joke", shares "to own the libs" memes, who used the pepe as his avatar on a company's slack. Several employees complained, boss called him in for a dressing down, he disavowed any knowledge of the nefarious meaning. He's obviously lying. That's what I think about every time I see somebody who uses this stuff pretend not to know what it is.
  13. forget it marge, it's china town
  14. The whole 4chan "let's make this a fake thing to pwn the libs, 'whoops', now alt-right people are doing it ironically/seriously" started in 2017. But Milo and co. started it back in 2015 as this intentionally nebulous dog-whistle along the lines of, "white guys chill like this" or whatever the hell goes on in their lizard brains. It's been festering for a while. Sure, but it hasn't really been mainstream for a long time. It wasn't a focus of national media until somewhat recently -- the person sitting behind Brett Kavanaugh comes to mind -- and most recently, the NZ shooter. It's not unreasonable for the average person to not know that it's a white power symbol and to be surprised that someone would do that on live television at a Cubs game. those white supremacists media people in the white house? When was that, 2017? I think it's very unlikely than any ONLINE person hasn't seen this before, and a big portion of the people scoffing at this story are telling on themselves
  15. I'm online a lot but I have no idea what 4chan is even though I've heard of it. I vaguely recall hearing that this was not used to racists horsefeathers but I don't hang out with anyone who would use it (to the best of my knowledge) so it's not something I immediately thought of when I saw the pic. I've never been on 4chan. 4chan isn't the story. This symbol is a racist symbol used by racists and has been for years and people know it.
  16. well the punching game was certainly a thing in my childhood
  17. I honestly find it very hard to believe anybody who is ONLINE doesn't know this symbol and the negative connotation. If you were on twitter, you would have to follow a very narrow group of people to have avoided the stories. I assume it's similar on facebook. It's been happening in the white house with proven white supremacists media members who have been granted access, it has happened all over the place.
  18. Fine. Response, retort, reply. Pick whichever word tickles your taint. How is asking if that was directed at me a weird question? I was simply commenting that I had seen that hand symbol used elsewhere. I think it's obvious that I wasn't trying to say that the dude in the pic was a member of that frat. everybody has seen the symbol used elsewhere. A white guy doing that on TV in 2019 is not doing it in support of a black fraternity.
  19. McCann shows up in the video as the only guy slower than him, but he gets to first earlier since he's a lefty.
  20. You're wrong. You're being ridiculous.
  21. When did this become a white power symbol? When I was younger we made this symbol for horsefeathers. *not arguing this isn't a white power symbol. Anyone that's watched any news the last few years, should know it's a white power symbol. Just wondering if it's always been that way, so I'm the horsefeathers.
