  1. It’s rear window and we’re all jimmy stewart watching Bowman kill the team every night
  2. They got their first point, so they got that going for them.
  3. I have to say, as ridiculous as the theory is, I really would love to see a situation where Lester is openly defying Ross, refusing to come out of games, and picking and choosing his starting dates. Then Bryant can go all Roger Dorn pointing out that his contract states he doesn't need to play the outfield and never has to field bunts. Rizzo shows up drunk every day and is peer pressuring Ross into drinking with him in the clubhouse and Ross goes on to have a legendary press conference where he spills the beans about being in over his head and can't stand the front office and thinks half the team sucks.
  4. Me too. Even though he only played with the Cubs for a few years, he was one of my favorite players as a kid. I thought, as most did, that he was toast earlier this season. I'm really glad the Nationals stuck with him and turned things around. It also provides a future counter-argument to the "fire the manager to give the team a spark" school of thought. "Fire the manager to give the team a spark" is more of a thing you do with guy who has been around a while and isn't getting the same production as before. It wouldn't have been the issue with a guy after one year. That's more of a "we've made a huge mistake" move.
  5. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1004&p=153045#p153045 and the posts around that one That thread and the Bums anthology should be required reading before anyone posts on here Pretty sure that Raisin Bran box was never even opened. Probably threw it away 6 months later.
  6. that sort of thing is more welcome in modern day america but still a challenging environment. Good for him
  7. now I'm going to spend half my morning trying to come up with a joker/incels = Kershaw/NLCS post when it comes to me you'll be roaring down the aisles
  8. https://twitter.com/rebekahvardy/status/1181871914081509376?s=21
  9. I have no idea why Houston trotted Verlander out on short rest. No kidding. Starting him on short rest is a bad idea on its own but when you add in screwing up the rotation for the next series it’s even worse. It was a no brainer
  10. it's gonna be a long month Unless the Saints fall on their face in this upcoming game, I'm guessing they come in as slight favorites. The Bears have lost two games in which they were favorites and are 2-3 overall against the spread. The defense lost some of its swagger this week and guys are injured. Maybe the betting public is more high on the Bears than me though, who knows. I know I would not bet on them again until a very inviting spread appears.
  11. they called him Binder Joe because of his obsession with S&M, it was an open secret
  12. How? Didn't he start getting manager jobs pretty young because he was more new than old school? I thought his whole schtick was the recently retired longtime catcher with an engineering degree from Northwestern who used stats but knew the day to say yada yada Girardi was talked up as a future manager virtually his entire playing career. He was described as smart because he went to Northwestern, not because he had some brilliant newage view of stats. He was a total hardass from the get go. He also presided over an extremely expensive Yankees roster that missed the playoffs in 3 of 4 years (frankly I loved those years), after Joe Torre never missed the playoffs. One thing I could see is Ricketts seeing value in a guy who bans facial hair, forcing Theo to trade Bryant before he gets expensive, while simultaneously forcing them to keep baby faced Russell and Almora.
  13. Quit arguing about could have beens, that game was going to end on a Chase Daniel INT. It was preordained.
  14. Short answer is: He's somewhat replaceable. Possibility of improving run prevention by upgrading defensively at catcher. He's got a lot of value that other teams may covet. Catchers that get banged up early and often have a reputation of falling apart early in their career.
  15. It's not about getting a better player but rather better utilizing that wasted cap space. What's the point of spending that much on a garbage backup? I don’t know if a garbage backup is going to keep you afloat for a few games Chase Daniel did.
  16. You can be unhappy when you waste that much cap space on a completely incompetent veteran when a dime a dozen guy would do the same thing. Daniel has not regressed, he was never good, and should not be on the team. Daniels, my bad. Agree with the regression there. As far as Daniel, a 90s rating is fine for a backup. Who could be a better backup at this point? It's not about getting a better player but rather better utilizing that wasted cap space. What's the point of spending that much on a garbage backup?
  17. I'm hoping their declining play has something to do with Kyle Long being an empty jersey and the two tackles being completely replaceable. This team needs a big upgrade at a tackle spot sooner rather than later, which would go a long way toward taking the pressure off the inside guys. I wonder what the odds are of Alex Bars coming off the practice squad after the bye week, presumably replacing Long.
  18. Something's wrong with Roquan and I don't think we can assume he'll be fine. The coaching staff has said he's been acting weird for weeks and now we finally saw it in the game. If Roquan is still acting unlike himself these next two weeks, I think you have to go back to Kwiatkowski until Roquan gets himself figured out. Here is a somewhat hot take: Are we sure Roquan is an impact player? Because I haven't really seen much evidence that he is. He was fantastic early in the season, in on everything. But he's also an inside linebacker, so the level of impact isn't the same as some edge rusher extraordinaire.
