  1. If you fire everybody and start anew you're talking about the same timeframe. Teams CAN turn on a dime in the NFL, but they typically do not. Unless you have a Marc Trestman situation, there is no reason to throw in the towel this early on a head coach you have any belief in. I do not think this is a Marc Trestman situation. I think you give Pace and Nagy a short to muddle through 2020 and draft a QB in 2021. Constant coaching churn is a recipe for prolonged stretches of ineptitude.
  2. I'm completely on board with this idea. BUT, that was the most predictable cowardly endings to a game I've seen from a coach. The Chargers tried to give you that game. They did nothing. Settling for a 40+ yard kick with plenty of time (after completely screwing up the halftime ending) was abysmal.
  3. “Not that great” is a huge compliment to Michigan.
  4. oh no not that So we are not in favor of trading Bryant this offseason? Considering that the Cubs are extremely unlikely to re-sign him in 2 years, I would much rather get something for him now before he gets closer to Free Agency. He is set to make close to $20M in arbitration, so there's that too. Get some assets in return and spend the $20M elsewhere. there is no such thing as a big market team that is extremely unlikely to resign their own under 30 star.
  5. Sure would have been nice to actually have game tape of this guy in college before making the pick.
  6. not that impressive once you realize he was banging the boss
  7. her turns our players into whiney baby men, oh great, that'll help
  8. I'm guessing writing skills didn't come into play during the interview process.
  9. Compromise should be he becomes free agent at 2021 all star break.
  10. Unless guys get hired away idk why they just wouldn’t keep the coaching staff as is. They seem to like Loretta enough that I don’t think they’d fire him as bench coach if he wants to stay. Didn't he interview for manager? Guys who try and get the bigger job rarely* stay at the lesser role when another candidate wins. *Not sure if true, just an assumption.
  11. Isn't there a pretty good chance the hitting and pitching coaches stay the same? I'd guess he'd get some input for some part of the staff. Might as well be somebody he has a history with, like Fredi Gonzalez.
  12. GM first, but the next GM has to keep Nagy and that eliminates any hire with self-respect. I'm still betting that they want to avoid the constant churn they've had of late and will keep these guys together for one more shot at a QB fix. They can't keep doing the "new gm new coach" every other year thing.
  13. Okay, none of the young guys are on the back half of their career, okay. It's weird that you have an issue with this. They have 2 starters that are exactly 30 (Amukamara and Massie) - it's not a team of geriatrics. The point I'm making is that some of these guys should have improved and basically none of them have - most have gotten worse. I just think it's kind of pointless to make the distinction that none of the young guys are on the back half of their career. It would be meaningful to suggest none of the starters are, but that's not the case here. Also, it's football, 30 isn't the start of the back half of a career.
  14. That's a bit of a stretch. Not really. If you want to quibble with "none", I'm talking about the young guys they expected to be key contributors this year and the years following - the supposed foundation of this team: Daniels (22), Cohen (24), Miller (24), Jackson (26), Roquan (22), Whitehair (27), Trubiksy (25), Fuller (27), Floyd (27), Goldman (25). Who in this group is playing better than last year? I'd expect to see some regression but it's pretty surprising to see it across the board. Okay, none of the young guys are on the back half of their career, okay. But there is a very good chance Mitch Trubisky has already played way more than 50% of his eventual career games in the NFL.
  15. That's a bit of a stretch. Both offensive tackles are on the back half. Nearly all of the DBs are in their late 20s if not 30s. It's Trevathan's 8th year. All of Pace's early picks are huge question marks (at best) right now. There are plenty of guys that have not stepped up that should, but there's also a good deal of natural regression.
  16. Yeah, you are correct. Headline was absolutely fine. Nope you’re both wrong. You don’t necessarily have to list the person’s name in the headline but you can’t just say “Astros staffer”. That means nothing. It’s a guy who is one promotion from running his own front office and it should be called out as such. Say assistant GM. Say executive. But “Astros staffer” is [expletive]. It's the freaking headline and was spelled out completely in the story. My lord.
  17. I know it wasn't technically the case, but it sure seemed to me that game was way out of hand even when the score was close. They went blocked punt safety, punt, fumble to start the game. The offense was trash from the get go. I really don't think "trying to establish the run" does anything there.
  18. Shame on Sports Illustrated? Really? 99% of people have never heard of this person, why would they put it in the headline?
  19. Offense scores 1 TD, it's the kicker's fault! A 43 yarder is like 75%-80% in the NFL. Yes, the Bears could have been in a better position to win the game but the kicker sucked/sucks. And the head coach spent an obscenely large portion of the offseason rehashing the stupid kicker situation while nothing was done to fix the stagnant offense.
  20. to be fair, last year we failed in the playoffs because our kicker sucked and we knew that early on Also the offense did jack squat all game but for some reason people forget that.
  21. As a trade or in the offseason? the article references an in season trade but says very little about it https://sports.yahoo.com/could-cam-newton-be-the-savior-for-bears-season-154306851.html
  22. No, that's the whole point of the weekly column.
