  1. 4.48 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 99 ERA+, 45 K/69 BB I wouldn't want him acquired to start, but I guess if we gave up next to nothing, he'd be kinda ok out of the pen. Not sure it'd be worth it, though. He's walked more than he's struck out and has a WHIP of 1.56. That's god awful. Very true. That's why I wouldn't want to give up much of anything worth anything for him and would only want him in a long relief type role. I'd be hoping for a Lilly-esque turnaround (I wouldn't think he'd be close to as good as Lilly, just improved) with him leaving the AL East and working under Rothschild. If it didn't work, just don't use him and let him go after the regular season. It should be why you don't want him. Trachsel sucked when he was in the NL, last year.
  2. and we already have a sept call-up thread, no need to start more.
  3. 9 definites and 4 more likely even though they've already said they aren't going to bring up many guys? I would say Soto, Cedeno, Fox, Pignatiello, Ohman, and maybe Gallagher and/or Hart a little later on.
  4. Lee looks like baseball players used to look - they have a peak year or two and then their avg years. That was before "enhancements" changed the patterns and the fans' perceptions. Not sure I follow the "what they used to look like" theory.
  5. Matt Murton's post ASB line is .294/.351/.515 for an 866 OPS, which exactly matches Lee's and is 5 points below Ramirez.
  6. Lee has always been somewhat patient and has always struck out a lot. I'm guessing your impression just doesn't fit the reality. Every hitter with some semblence of patience takes good pitches.

  8. We're just seeing normal Lee here. People's opinion of him is skewed by his fluke 2005 season. But prior to that, and since then, he's been normal, good, but not great Lee. Another reason why the Cubs desperately need an impact bat to plug into the 5 hole (although I'd happily take a 3 or 4 hitter).
  9. Most of my recording of games involves me not being in front of the tv for the first inning or two. So when I get there, I watch the game and fast forward the slow parts until I catch up. I've only actually watched a fully taped game after it was completely over one time. I had a softball game and decided not to use my usual methods to find out the scores, like my phone, XM, or 20/20 updates on the radio. I watched a full Cubs game in about 15 minutes.
  10. .268/.409/.504 on the season with a 134 OPS+. .352/.459/.655 in the 2nd half. He's hit his 23rd and 24th HR of the season today, so those numbers are just going up. .272/.430/.553 against LHP. .279/.412/.542 for his career against LHP. Since his rookie year, he's had one season with an OPB below .365. He routinely puts up a 115 OPS+ or better. And Philadelphia cannot stand him. Sure, he's getting the applause today, but the hate for Pat is probably stronger than Yankee hate for ARod. I predicted for a long time that at least one of Burrell and Abreu would be dealt. It would be really sweet if Philly came up short again and they decided to trade Pat to the Cubs this offseason. There's just one year left on his deal, at $14m, and he has a no trade. But I think he's exactly what the Cubs need in the OF, and I think a big strong patient slugger like him will actually hold up for several years, post 30.
  11. Pat Burrell can freaking hit.
  12. Those names aren't going to help anything, they will all be making big bucks very soon. What they need is Felix Pie and Tyler Colvin to be productive withing 2-3 years, and down the road guys like Vitters and a few others will have to come through. Or, find a way to trade for somebody else's better pre-prime position players who have yet to make an impact. Any established player is already going to be too expensive.
  13. Two leg injuries already in the first year of his deal suggests potential for further trouble down the road, and jeopardizing chances that he ages well (which, over time, is going to have a tangible effect on whatever intangible speed quality he has). Also, CF is no longer an option. They tried it this year, and quit quickly. There's next to no way they go back to it next year, and as he ages, and slows, there's probably not going to be much of a chance to try him there again.
  14. The stretch is not our thing. The stretch is done across baseball. The Cubs choose to make it stupid. And they've used several opposing announcers and opposing team affiliated people who regularly throw-in the visiting teams name.
  15. .243/.264/.411 in the second half so far. That's Neifi territory. He's been a hair better than Jones was last year overall. I just hope like hell they win big in the next 2-3 years, and then find a way to produce several position prospect in years 4-8, because they are going to have to hide him.
  16. I definitely feel the whole system is highly flawed. DVR has ruined what little meaning ratings ever had I wouldn't say ratings have "little" meaning. Networks rely on it for Advertisement money... They are used, but I still don't see how they could possibly be accurate.
  17. I definitely feel the whole system is highly flawed. DVR has ruined what little meaning ratings ever had Would DVR really affect the ratings of a sporting event -- something very few people would want to watch on a delay? I watch Cubs games on delay all the time now. Not 2 days later or anything, but it's a lot easier to go grab a bite with the wife or take the dog for a walk, and then come back and watch the game while skimming through commercials.
  18. http://www.pjstar.com/stories/083007/MLB_BE7EKG3B.080.php He's actually at AAA. And today would be his day to start on 5 days rest but Ryan O'Malley was called up from AA and bumped him. :-k Bruce says
  19. I definitely feel the whole system is highly flawed.
  20. Soriano was really bad before the injury.
  21. He was introduced as the Milwaukee Brewers announcer, and most everybody probably knew he was going to say Brewers. Seriously, there's no story here.
  22. That sounds familiar. I began brainwashing..eh..."training" my kids at birth...My wife was born and raised here...but she's to the point where she'd rather the Cubs win because she knows I'm easier to live with when they do. <----- That was at 9 months. My wife corrected one of her friends that other day when they said "...so from April till September, you have to deal with the Cubs?" My wife said, "No, its a full year thing, but the season starts in February when pitchers and catchers report." Never been so turned on in my life. that's hot
  23. It's huge, but I'm really down to a point now where every game is the biggest game of the year. Last night was by far the most nervous I've been watching a game all season, and I know it's only going to get worse. x2 I think part of it, a large part of it, has to do with being here in St. Louis....every time they win a game now I hear how the "spunky" "scrappy" "heart of a champion" do gooders are just ready to take the division...it drives me nuts...and with them taking an early lead last night it was just...well...as someone said...ulcer city. Thank God I don't like in St. Louis, I just work in an office with 3-4 of them. I work in downtown Chicago and my office is 50% Tigers fans, 25% Cubs fans, 15% Cardinals fans, 5% Brewers fans, 5% other (Reds, Pirates, Mariners). Note: not one White Sox fan among the office. So you aren't a corrections officer.
  24. Exactly. I like Uecker a lot as well, but don't try to tell me he didn't deserve to be booed last night. His team is in the middle of a pennant race against our team in one of the biggest games of the year. The fans had every right to boo him and I probably would have booed him if I were at Wrigley as well. I don't get why this is a story. There was no reason for him to avoid saying Brewers, and there's nothing wrong with booing him.
  25. Neither funny, nor very accurate. disagree and disagree Agree. With truffle. That is, I think it was funny, and accurate.
