  1. It doesn't look like there will be any really long delays, and seeing as how Marquis is an established arm without a tremendous future, I'd have no problem letting him sit out any 30-45 minute delays and then going back out there.
  2. http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/boatandbeach/map/interactive/60613?from=36hour_map_large&zoom=7&interactiveMapLayer=radar Looks like it, and it's heading northeast. Wrigley might see a short delay or two.
  3. He's probably lucky in the sense that he's facing the Dodgers, who are only slightly better than the Cubs offensively. Are they statistically better...cause their lineup seems really bad to me. Well yesterday LA had a 94 OPS+ and the Cubs were at 93. Although after last night's game they flipflopped.
  4. I hate to say it but someone needs to.... Grossman? Well, if either was in their 2nd year of playing full-time, then it would be similar. But both are older with plenty of experience and a track record to suggests they don't have the upside that Rex has.

  6. Marquis is a lot like Jones, when he looks good, he looks really good, but he can be so atrociously bad.
  7. Cubs on the basepaths..... If this was last night, the ESPN announcers would insist that was a rookie/young player mistake.
  8. Talent levels are subjective. I would say that the Brewers have far more potential talent, but it's yet to be proven that this talent will translate to production and wins. I think the Cubs have the slight edge in talent right now, the problem is their better players aren't playing their best. But that happens when you are older and past your prime. The further out we go the more the talent spectrum shines on the Brewers side of the ledger. The Cubs do have very talented ballplayers. Jacque Jones is talented, he's just not that productive. Soriano is probably the most talented guy between the two teams, he's just not the most productive. Zambrano is easily the most talented pitcher, but we've seen his issues.
  9. Well, just like Hendry is in charge of the major league team, Fleita is in charge of player development. It may be that he's hired the wrong men to actually coach, but he's in charge, so blame for anything related to development has to flow up to him.
  10. their bullpen is still a complete train wreck though Absolutely, and they are going to get hammered for this game, even though there was little they could, or should have done differently.
  11. I understand where somebody would be coming from by asking this question, I've felt that way in the past. There's nothing wrong with contemplating the benefits of failure, namely, ushering out the old and bringing in a new management group. However, I think the GM position, and team philosophy in general, is based entirely on the new ownership group, and not on whether or not this team backs into the playoffs. In other words, yes, I want the Cubs to make the playoffs. It's fun to see them play in October, even if they really aren't that good.
  12. Wow, Philly lost a heartbreaker in very unlucky fashion, a bunch of bloops and bleeders and seeing eye singles.
  13. I hope Cedeno goes 2-3 with a HR and a walk each day and starts a lot more down the stretch. Even if he did that the next two days, I couldn't assume that it would continue for the rest of the month. Cedeno has much more upside, but he also has a lot more downside than Theriot. I have no confidence whatsoever that Cedeno could outperform Theriot down the stretch, even though Theriot has been pretty terrible the last month. Hey, I never said I had confidence in Cedeno, I'm just saying what I hope happens. I don't have a ton of confidence in Theriot on an everyday basis either. Ryan has pretty much put up the numbers I thought he could, but I didn't think he'd be able to do it over 150 games. I'm just hoping the frequent work won't eventually expose/wear him down.
  14. I hope Cedeno goes 2-3 with a HR and a walk each day and starts a lot more down the stretch.
  15. Being late is not a direct indicator of work ethic, not even close. In a lot of jobs, those who like to show up early and leave late are often just butt kissers trying to make a good impression who aren't actually good workers. We've got a couple. And as you said, you don't know the circumstances. So quit pretending you know where his head is. Taking less talent and more desire 10 times out of 10 is how you end up with a crappy baseball team, 10 times out of 10.
  16. Could be, but then again, this is the last of the games against the good (ie non-NL Central) contenders that the Cubs have struggled against all year. And even if they lose both, the worst they will be is 1 game back. In theory, these are the games they are supposed to lose, and then the must wins will be against STL and the rest of the crappy central teams. So, even though they've also struggled against the NLC also rans, they will still be in this thing if they lose to LA. They will just put themselves in the difficult position of actually having to win some games, which has been proven to be very difficult for them this year.
  17. Since I tend to look at the positive in all things, I'm going to just say it's good to see Eric showing a lot more patience than his brother.
  18. I'd like to sit in on those debates. I wonder what the mixed opinions could be. Are they debating whether he's a future All Star or AAAA player, or is it a case of debating starter or career back-up?
  19. 5! gotta put the ball in play man!
  20. Firing Perry would just give a free pass to the guilty party, Hendry, who has failed miserably at putting together a solid lineup for 5 years now. The team has consistently been bottom half in OBP and runs scored correlates with OBP, which is why they've consistently been bottom half in runs scored (with 2004's measly 7th ranking being the lone exception). Jim doesn't get it, and that's why the offense consistently fails, and why the team doesn't win enough.
  21. WHIP over 1.50 and absolutely ridiculously terrible K/BB, what else needs to be checked? He's awful. He was awful last year with an ERA of nearly 5, he was over 5 this year until he started getting lucky in August. He still can't strike anybody out, he's walking more than he strikes out and giving up too many baserunners. He's awful.
  22. Then you aren't looking at this the least bit rationally. Hendry gets crap because he makes crap moves. How else do you barely break .500 over 5 seasons with a top tier payroll? Steve Trachsel is a terrible pitcher. He was decent from time to time earlier in his career, but he sucked last year and he's sucked this year. He was destroyed late in the Mets postseason run last year, because he sucks. He's walking a ton of guys and not striking out anybody, and he's giving up a considerable amount of hits. He's been lucky in August that his ERA is as low as it has been. Steve Trachsel is not a terrible pitcher. I wish, for once, that you'd drop the hyperbole. Opponents have a near .800 OPS against him the past 3 years. I'd say that's pretty terrible. Okay... if you look league wide, an 800 OPS against would rank Trachsel 75th in baseball, which would make him a number three starter. So unless every single 4th and 5th starter in baseball is "terrible", then no, Steve Trachsel is not a terrible pitcher. For pitchers with at least 100 IP.... Trachsel is dead last in K/BB, behind such legends as Joe Kennedy and Mike Maroth as the only players with a K/BB below 1. Trachsel is bad. No, Trachsel is average. His OPS against, WHIP, and ERA all place him as a 3rd or 4th starter. are you kidding me?
  23. Well, if he passed waivers, than that means everybody had a chance to take him for nothing but didn't.
  24. It's hard to say, it's been reported that they were trying to give him away but couldn't, similar to when they just gave Abreu away. If they trade him it will be because they are trying to get rid of him. A lot may depend on how they finish 2007. If they come up short, and the fans get on Burrell for something, I could see them make a push to trade him for an arm, or two. They might take back somebody like Jones to offset salary (partially). Gallagher isn't untouchable. I'd trade Murton in a deal for a true impact bat. The Cubs need a bat they can count on. Murton could probably be a good bat, but they don't see interested in playing him.
