    It's not impressive to me. In only 2 of them, did they win 90 or more of their first 162 games, and both of them were pre-1990.

    Free agent? I still think the Cubs will do whatever they can to not have 3 lefties in the rotation. I think that bothered Lou last year.

    I realize that I'm nitpicking a single point out of this, but this just isn't true. The US believed that Al Qaeda and Bin Laden were behind the 1993 boming of the WTC and the 1998 bombings of 2 embassies. How can Republicans question Clintons's response to Bin Laden, if nobody had ever heard of him? Yes, "nobody" goes too far. The public is one thing, but people knew of Bin Laden.

    No assumptions necessary when determing the Cubs are a horribly run franchise.

    Is he that giant lefthander? Doesn't he have a tougher time than Lieber striking guys out and keeping them off base? He may be healthier and younger, but I'm not sure he's much of an option. Is he that much more of a ground ball pitcher or something?

    yeah, but you watched him "tight-rope" in the games last season right? what makes you think that is going to be any easier to watch if he takes the mound in the 1st? it will be a disaster...probably on par or worse than wade miller... just say no to dempster in any situation...lets trade him if possible Reading comprehension is a good thing. I don't see how it's not fair. He also pitched a lot of those innings as a fresh armed kid with no physical limitations. And he pitched a lot of his innings being protected in the bullpen. Ryan Dempster is what his career suggests he is, and his career numbers are a very good indicator of what you'd get if he came back to the rotation, not good.

    This isn't based on any facts. But my take on these guys is Lieber can be a stable back of the rotation guy, with no real upside. Marquis may give you a few more excellent games, but also more disaster starts. I could see going after Lieber with the hopes that he won't be a disaster. Maybe not great, but not horrible. The only thing is, he's way past TJS days, and coming off foot surgery. You can't really hope he'll be any better than he's been the past couple years, and he might be worse.

    What is that from? Reason I ask is that I used to have an uncle Roger who drank a lot and was pretty much a jerk wasted or sober... which is why he was released by my aunt. My Name is Earl?

    Well, this weekend I'm staying home. There was talk of a Vermont trip, but with all the warm weather and rain, it's going to be a disaster up there. Probably get some work done around the house. No other plans really.

    No interest in Melky. He's not any good. He's a fat tub who can't really play much center, and won't last long out there. He's also exactly the type of player the Yankees win on trades with. He's overhyped because he's a Yankee. If he came up with the Cubs nobody would have any interest in him.

    Something is up with these absurdly long contracts. It can't just be about showing fans you're committed for the long haul. The owners must know they have a lot more cash coming their way, or that they are going bankrupt soon and don't care.
