  1. Same category? I've seen many people select Crede in those "which Chicago player would you pick for each position" lists that come about everytime interleague play begins.
  2. I don't understand how people can actually complain about teams getting hosed in this ridiculously oversized tournament. If you can't get into the NCAA tourney, or if you can't get a very high seed, then you didn't have a good enough season, so just shut up already.
  3. And it's only going to continue. Dempster has never had control. He claims he used to be good until getting injured, but he always sucked in the letting guys on for free category.
  4. He's in. He hasn't walked anybody this spring, and Lou loves that. They didnt' sign him to be a reliever. If he's healthy and doesn't implode late, he's a lock. And even if he does have a bad outing or two, I still think he's in. If he's third, he probably won't pitch in Philly April 11-13. I was looking forward to hearing half hearted Lieber bashing. I'm fairly certain Philly fans don't even know he was on the team.
  5. duh. Lite beer is evil. Even though cell phones are mixed blessing, that's still better than light beer. cell phones cause huge tumors, light beer makes you have a smaller beer belly this is a no-brainer for me Lite beer makes drunk chicks get knocked up, cell phones make men sterile. It's a push.
  6. Yep. Although he's yet to ever exceed 575 PA in a season, and has never been an everyday second baseman or starter. Plus, he's 33, not old, but old enough that a step back could be possible. It's possible, but what he said was complately innacurate. He's had 2 straight good years. Those were his only 2 full years also, so it could very well be that he's one of those guys that needs to play every day to hit. But he didn't actually play a full year in either of those two seasons. He's never been an everyday guy. Perhaps he actually needs rest to stay solid. And really, that's all he is, solid, nothing more. He's far from irreplacable. A starting SS would be much more palatable. I would love to have a real starting SS. However, I don't think the Cubs have any interest in improving there, and I don't think there's a realistic chance they can/will improve there. So I'll take my upgrades where I can get them. Not at any cost, but the names being throw around are within the reasonable range of negotiation.

  8. I just don't see how this is possible. I guess it's like presidents, in that everyone of them is going to have harsh loud critics. But how can anybody judge commissioners and objectively call Selig horrible? How can they all be horrible? If they were CEOs, they'd be looked at as very good. MLB has grown exponentially. It's a huge profitable financially sound business. It's not like he's Gary Bettman presiding over a league that has crumbled. It just doesn't make any sense to me to say all the commishes have huge suckitude ratings. If they all truly sucked at what they did, baseball would have failed by now.
  9. I think that was fairly obvious when they signed Booker *sigh I'm fairly certain they'll draft one on the first day.
  10. It's pretty amazing how everybody just assumes he's been horrible, especially in comparison with other commissioners. There's quite a gulf between assuming someone is horrible and saying they're the best ever. Yes, but my point is it's amazing how blindly people follow the assumption that Selig has been horrible. Most everybody says he's horrible and then they offer no good reason why. And quite frankly, given the history of the position, I'm not sure there's anybody who has clearly been better.
  11. Right now. But whose to say they will be valued as high in July? And who is to say there will be something out there we'd rather have in July? I don't like waiting until the deadline to make your moves. I want the best team possible ASAP. I'm not dying to trade these guys, but their value is not guaranteed over time. I don't see any realistic deals on the horizon that they would be better used for. Is there going to be some solid SS, or ace starter that comes available to fill the needs? And would those guys be the difference in getting it done? Possibly. But we don't know. And what we do know (or think) is that these guys could get the Cubs a very good offensive player now - something they definitely need.
  12. The only guy? I thought there was somebody else around.
  13. A CF hitting leadoff? Are you sure? Lou explicitly said they had no other choice but to hit the CF 8th.
  14. It's pretty amazing how everybody just assumes he's been horrible, especially in comparison with other commissioners.
  15. A lot of people involved with the Sox organization grossly overvalue Crede.
  16. If Dempster implodes and Lieber pulls a fat that still leaves the Cubs with the same exact rotation they had last year, Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis and Marshall. They also have a couple other guys who could probably make some emergency starts and give you typical emergency start type performance.
  17. Calling them our three "top" pitching prospects is the same as calling Roberts an "all star." It's all contextual and doesnt' really matter. What matters is how they grade out as prospects. They're only "top" prospects because they're in our system. In reality, none of them are A prospects. Yeah, but it's all we really have, in terms of prospects potentially able to step in relatively soon OR prospects that are going to hae some trade value. Trading them now on a good player who is arguably very redundant and doesn't address the teams major holes could very easily leave the team damn near crippled if the precarious starting pitching balance falls apart AND if they need to make key trades by the deadline. I think the concept that this leaves the cupboard bare is a bit overblown. The Cubs one advantage over most teams remains money. And with money, it is quite possible, and rather easy, to restock a farm quickly.
  18. Yeah, we're on the verge of falling out of the srping training playoff race. Unacceptable. There are only 2.5 weeks left to gain ground, time is running out.
  19. He's white dummy.
  20. Walking away from the table is often the best decision somebody could make. Suggesting you couldn't possibly have known the pain of Cubs failures if you think they should walk away from this deal is absurd.
  21. Don't know about perfect, but definitely the type of guy I'd like to see them get. Good to compete for first job, probably no chance of actually handling it himself. Don't have to spend a pick on a RB.
  22. Does he realize he lives in Chicago? Also, the Cubs are going to have only 79 home games that season because of the 2 @ US Cellular. The who concept sucks. Lets hope it never happens. Where do you get the idea that the Cubs are only getting 79 home games because of the 2 @ US Cellular Field? All teams have 81 home games or is there something I am missing here?? Yeah, that didn't make any sense to me. The only thing I could think is he believes there's going to be a Who concert in Wrigley that will force the Cubs to play 2 home games in US Cellular.
  23. All this talk of 2 trades occured around the time tickets went on sale and the CBOE tickets went up for auction. It's important to create a feeling that this could be the year in order to sell those tickets at the highest possible price.
  24. I assume by the other thread, you mean "The Infamous 2nd Trade" thread. That thread was basically asking what the original two trades were and what happened to the second trade. I am assuming the 2nd deal (whatever it was) is dead. This post is wondering what moves will happen as a result of the Roberts deal. So you just wanted to create a new thread about the same subject for no good reason?
