  1. Not all "first years" are equal. And score runs? Are you kidding? How is that a good measure?
  2. This reminds me of the story around Cedeno's initial addition to the 40-man roster. I thought at the time it was completely unnecessary, considering how young he was and how bad he was, there was no chance somebody would take him in the rule 5 and keep him on the 40-man all season. Anybody remember the details?
  3. Wuertz would be a decent trading chip, as long as he's not just given away. The Cubs have used up most of his cheapest years. And quite possibly they've used up his best years. He's coming off 3.5 fairly consistent solid years, a pretty nice achievement for most any reliever, aside from the elite. That's not to suggest I want him dealt, or that I think Hendry would be able to get a lot for him. But the Cubs have somewhat of a surplus of solid bullpen arms, and teams do often overvalue relievers. It could be a smart move to try and improve one of the team's weak points by including Wuertz in some trade this year. But do you trade Wuertz with Howry and Eyre free agents? Isn't Wood on a 1-year deal too? I do like Ascaino, Hart, and Petrick to go along with Marmol, but Wuertz has clearly had more success than any, including Marmol. I think I might rather trade a prospect, who might have more value than Wuertz anyway, at least to other teams looking to get cheap production. I trade him if the return is significant. I think it's a lot easier to find another Wuertz than most other needs. Wuertz is going to be making his own cashe very soon anyway.
  4. Fixed....jeeze, what a baby! No, yo momma is the baby.

  6. Okay, seriously. It's March 18. Can somebody please fix the title?
  7. Aren't we told here to attack the argument and not the person? This is insulting to people who like his show. Please refrain from personal attacks. Murph is an idiot and does not post here.
  8. If Theriot, Soriano, Lee bat 1-2-3 all year, what is the likely number of times Lee will come to the plate with nobody on base?
  9. bale... c'mon man, try to keep up. For those of us still living in March, it's kind of difficult, futureman.
  10. You know, I could picture that happening. Actually, I would put a little money on that very thing happening at least once this year. I'm sure he'll blow more than one save, and lose more than one game as well. But I'm also fairly confident that he'll be successful at the same rate or better than most closers, and the team won't suffer one bit from having him in there.
  11. I was having a hard time understanding how or why this deal would get done. The state absolutely should not be in the business of sports stadium ownership. Any potential Cubs buyer would have to be nuts to pay anywhere close to $1B for the Cubs without Wrigley. I understand Zell was probably hoping he'd get close to the same number for the Cubs with or without the building, but it just didn't add up. Hopefully this dies, and the next owner gets everything and can move forward with a financially viable entity and relatively clean balance sheet that does not require cutbacks in spending. But just because "it's on life support" doesn't mean that it's over.
  12. Are you talking about the time when Dusty said he was unavailable due to fatigue? But then waited for Ryan Dempster to put 2 runners on base and then summon Hawkins from the pen, with a rushed warm up session, only to blow it against the Mets? It's not that it doesn't matter who closes, what doesn't matter are the absurd qualities that were listed earlier in this thread. Howry's experience does not give him a lick of advantage of Marmol or Wood. Their lack of saves, a made up stat, does not mean they can't close. If Wood somehow can't handle the position mentally and starts to blow games, replace him with Howry or Marmol. But you don't just make decisions about jobs based on who has the most experience doing it. That's the dumbest possible option.
  13. gtfo WHTICHRIR
  14. Lou feels he has to bat the CF 8th, Hendry feels he has to get more LH bats but at the same time a RH hitting CF. Why the heck do these guys insist on painting themselves into corners so often?
  15. I've heard Cubs fans mention Ramirez in the same category as David Wright. Just goes to show you. Ramirez is much closer to Wright's category than Crede is to Ramirez's. Aramis and Wright are in the upper echelon of 3B. Wright is better, but Crede has no grounds for being anywhere near that list.
  16. Same category? I've seen many people select Crede in those "which Chicago player would you pick for each position" lists that come about everytime interleague play begins.
  17. I don't understand how people can actually complain about teams getting hosed in this ridiculously oversized tournament. If you can't get into the NCAA tourney, or if you can't get a very high seed, then you didn't have a good enough season, so just shut up already.
  18. And it's only going to continue. Dempster has never had control. He claims he used to be good until getting injured, but he always sucked in the letting guys on for free category.
  19. He's in. He hasn't walked anybody this spring, and Lou loves that. They didnt' sign him to be a reliever. If he's healthy and doesn't implode late, he's a lock. And even if he does have a bad outing or two, I still think he's in. If he's third, he probably won't pitch in Philly April 11-13. I was looking forward to hearing half hearted Lieber bashing. I'm fairly certain Philly fans don't even know he was on the team.
  20. duh. Lite beer is evil. Even though cell phones are mixed blessing, that's still better than light beer. cell phones cause huge tumors, light beer makes you have a smaller beer belly this is a no-brainer for me Lite beer makes drunk chicks get knocked up, cell phones make men sterile. It's a push.
  21. Yep. Although he's yet to ever exceed 575 PA in a season, and has never been an everyday second baseman or starter. Plus, he's 33, not old, but old enough that a step back could be possible. It's possible, but what he said was complately innacurate. He's had 2 straight good years. Those were his only 2 full years also, so it could very well be that he's one of those guys that needs to play every day to hit. But he didn't actually play a full year in either of those two seasons. He's never been an everyday guy. Perhaps he actually needs rest to stay solid. And really, that's all he is, solid, nothing more. He's far from irreplacable. A starting SS would be much more palatable. I would love to have a real starting SS. However, I don't think the Cubs have any interest in improving there, and I don't think there's a realistic chance they can/will improve there. So I'll take my upgrades where I can get them. Not at any cost, but the names being throw around are within the reasonable range of negotiation.

  23. I just don't see how this is possible. I guess it's like presidents, in that everyone of them is going to have harsh loud critics. But how can anybody judge commissioners and objectively call Selig horrible? How can they all be horrible? If they were CEOs, they'd be looked at as very good. MLB has grown exponentially. It's a huge profitable financially sound business. It's not like he's Gary Bettman presiding over a league that has crumbled. It just doesn't make any sense to me to say all the commishes have huge suckitude ratings. If they all truly sucked at what they did, baseball would have failed by now.
