  1. The average leadoff hitter had a 759 OPS last year, if that stays the average the next 8 years, Soriano has a good chance of remaining average for his position. I'm pretty sure you're joking, but in case you're not, I'd like to point out that leadoff hitter isn't a position. LF is a position. Well, then if he does fall below average for leadoff hitters, they can just move him to 7th or 8th, where he'll have a better chance of actually being well above average for his position. Problem solved.

  3. If I was a GM/Team President with a clear problem with leaks that I considered to be harmful, I'd try and smoke out the leakers, personally. Especially if I was from the buttoned-down old school corporate school of baseball management hired to clean up a horribly run sloppy franchise.
  4. I don't think it would be horrible. Once the field has been in place for a year, I feel like it will be able to easily handle the temporary rink. And I think it would make more sense to put it in a smaller venue like Wrigley, than 60,000 seat Soldier Field.
  5. I think people are marvelling at the length more than complaining.
  6. Ha, thats laughable. He did more in his short stint as interim team president, then sweater vest did in his entire tenure. What do you think he did? He is a marketing man, and by all accounts, a pretty good one. That's what the Blackhawks need, in a lot of ways. It certainly appears he opened the path for Hendry to get some spending money to improve the club. I think he was in the right place at the right time to pad his resume, nothing more.

  8. I'm pretty sure I've been fooled 3 or 4 times this morning by the Tribune headline "Cubs deal for Orioles leadoff hitter" not immediatley noticing the last work, "likely". It's that darn red font "update 7:27am" that gets me.
  9. This particular aspect of the trade has been discussed. We must also consider having only one guy who can play SS on the roster, Ryan Theriot, and no longer having our best option for 5th starter and 6th starter.
  10. Maybe they want to tell the players themselves, instead of having the media do it.
  11. That's what suit jackets are for (not to mention phones that don't stick out like a sore thumb). not everyone wears a suit jacket to an interview..i've only worn one once and i was definitely over-dressed when i saw what the people in the office were wearing. this advice was given several years ago...they didn't make little phones back then. Oh, well yeah, you wouldn't want to carry one of those bad boys around.

  13. Or the Cubs asked him not to play.
  14. The OF is probably Murton. Listen to 1300 for the updates live I've always had a problem with this. Seriously, if you know specifically it's 2 pitchers and an OF...why the hell can't you name them? If you know that much detail, how wouldn't you know it all? If you do know it all, what's the point of keeping it to yourself? If the source asked the person not to reveal the names, then they would be taking a big risk by naming them.
  15. I'd probably go with number 2, in the interest of easing Fukudome's transition into the majors. If he settles in nicely, and Soriano is struggling to get on (and the offense as a whole is struggling), then I think about the switch to #1.
  16. you shouldn't take your phone to job interviews. Nothing wrong with bringing it, but you should turn off the ringer. i was always told to not take anything but your portfolio with you...no keys, phone, etc....but i guess that would be okay. That's a little silly. How do you get home? Park your car? You shouldn't lug a bunch of nonsense around, but there's no reason why you can't have your phone with you, assuming it fits in a pocket almost unnoticed.
  17. I can't see Derrek getting over 30 again. I don't think its unrealistic to see Lee get over 30. Who knows why his power numbers were so bad to start '07 (wrist or any other explanations), but he was quite studly to end the season. No 2005 Lee will never come back, but I think we could hope for 04 Lee (32 HR) at least and if you think his 2004 numbers aren't bad, consider that his OBP and SLG were both higher last year. Please don't underestimate Lee's value to the 2007 Cubs because only 22 of his hits went over the fence. I would be very disappointed if Lee repeated his 2004 numbers.

  19. I'm more curious about their conservative take on Lee's playing time.
  20. 9/11 changed a lot of things. Nothing "changed everything". Clinton gets unfairly criticized for how he handled terrorism, the fact is it wasn't until 9/11 that America was ready to do much of anything to fight terrorism.
  21. There are actually several valid arguments to the contrary.
  22. They want some games on free tv.
