  1. He'd have to move extremely fast to be the starter in 2010.
  2. I would have taken him and done that. Hell we signed Jeff S. 29 other teams have passed him up as well, they know better than I do. Eh, everybody passing on a guy doesn't make it the right decision. Baseball has a way of groupthinking itself into stupid decisions. Also, how much influence did Selig and MLB have on slotting this year?
  3. Okay, um, where's all this freaking out and a overreacting?
  4. So Ryan Theriot 2.0 No, Theriot wasn't a top 70 draft prospect. So a rich man's Ryan Theriot? Small, athletic, bad SS I thought 6'3"
  5. The Cubs drafted a reliever and a utility player.
  6. So we drafted a 3b who doesn't hit for much power. Awesome. sounds like a 2B possibility.
  7. sounds like another safe bet to make the majors but probably never star there type of pick.
  8. Of course he also said that before signing. What was he going to say, "I can only throw this hard when I come out of the bullpen once or twice a week. Put me in the rotation and I'm back down at 90."
  9. He could be even more valuable as a starter........ Not necessarily. And Cashner could be a starter too. Considering he wasn't much of a prospect until moving from the starting job to the bullpen, I think it's a stretch to justify his selection based on the possibility that he could start again.
  10. The comp to an NFL kicker makes sense, but it's not the same thing. The thing about NFL first round picks is if they aren't really good impact players, it's a disappointment. Mid-first round MLB picks can be successful just by contributing to the major league team (or being trade bait for somebody who contributes). If all this kid ever does is turn into Bobby Howry, it's still going to be better than almost all other picks.
  11. TCU meal plan and nutrition plan: steroids
  12. Stink is one cocky SOB. "I was the one who brought the kid down to earth." I know the credit crunch has been hard, but do you have to take it whenever you find a chance?
  13. I had the impression that the Cubs draft the last couple years were meant to supply multiple guys who could make the majors, not necessarily star in, but make the majors. This guy certainly seems to fit the model. He seems intriguing at least.
  14. did I see significant movement on that last FB?
  15. My question is where were they on money when they failed to sign him after last year's draft? And does signability play a role here?
  16. Do you mean remains a reliever or starts in the minors? Wilken said they'd let this take its own course. In other words, we don't know yet. I think he was referring to both options being remain a reliever.
  17. I kind of really hope that Lou demanded the Cubs draft a reliever in the first to help fill the inevitable 15 man bullpen. I wouldn't be surprised if Lou didn't even know the draft was today. Probably, unless he called Jim this afternoon to complain about walks and demanding a new arm. "What do you mean he's unavailable?"
  18. The Cubs described him as a first round talent in the original article. That's wonderful. If they can continue winning and get quailty kids for the far east and down south as well they can continue to build their farm system. I just love that we're tapping the Pacific Rim so much now. That's what she said.
  19. I kind of really hope that Lou demanded the Cubs draft a reliever in the first to help fill the inevitable 15 man bullpen.
  20. So he wasn't that great of a prospect until impressing people out of the pen, and since he was successful enough out of the pen to draw interest in the 1st, people think he should move back to starter? What do the Cubs see him as? How much does signability play here?
