  1. Len and Bob asked him and he said he didn't think he got enough of it. He was surprised it went. oh okay... i didn't think that could be it because it was like 15 rows deep. it's not like the wind was blowing out either. either way, soto is the freakin man. He also said he thought the wind must have picked up while it was in the air. I think he just thought he hit a deep fly out. It was really high and took forever to land. But it was long gone and probably not at all wind aided.
  2. I didnt even know he was on the 40 man. If he is get rid of him! They do have an extra spot right now, so they aren't desperate for his. At the very least they should put him on the 60-day, he's already been gone for about 55.

  4. Don't make that comparison, though. Yes, both were steals. Both were good trades. But in the end, the Lakers lost in the finals. This was not a steal. Rich Harden is damaged goods who may or may not make 10-15 starts the rest of the year. It's a risk, one that GMs aren't going to get the motherload in return for.
  5. It's Beane's job to do the best he can for the Oakland A's. If Rich Harden was a 200 IP pitcher every year he could afford to hold out for the highest offer until July 31. He saved his financially questionable team lots of money this year, and erased any risk of losing Harden between now and the break. Could he have held out for more, probably. But how much more? I doubt a lot. People keep talking about other teams that have so much more to offer, without thinking about the fact that very rarely do those higher rated prospects actually get packaged in deals. He got a dirt cheap starting pitcher who can start in the majors the rest of the year and be under their control for years. Are the Yankees or Boston offering them that this year? The Yankees weren't offering pitching prospects for Sabathia or Santana, they weren't going to offer them for Harden. Gallagher is a legit prospect that people strangely undervalue. He's got a 2-3 ceiling, and he is already showing a tremendous likelihood of reaching his ceiling, or at least get close to it. He also got 2 guys who are capable of starting on good teams, and a very solid catching prospect. He got exactly what he was capable of getting for Rich Harden. He wasn't going to get much more if he waited, and he could have gotten nothing if he did.
  6. I think part of the motivation was he wanted to trade Harden now, and not give setbacks a chance to scuttle getting anything.
  7. That his name is pronounced Go Dan. Not to steal Vance's thunder, but I think it's pronounced Geaux Dan. Not in 'Merica it ain't.
  8. maybe he wore 7 with the falcons? http://web.wireimage.com/images/tnm/11401056.jpg
  9. Big Dick and Little Dick? Works for both height and age purposes.
  10. If he's throwing fewer splitters, that could explain the decrease in ground balls. Also, since hanging splitters are a HR waiting to happen, perhaps that is why his flyballs are up while the HR are down.
  11. http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_9822250 We got ourselves a Cubs hater.
  12. Gallagher was getting all sorts of hugs on CSN sportsnite. The kid has an opportunity to make over $10m in the next 4 years if he performs, got to be pretty exciting.
  13. They've been top 10 before and didn't spend it on the right people. The difference is the substantial increase they've allowed to be allocated for 2-3 years from now, when Trib no longer owns. Hendry has clearly gone for broke, as they have next to nothing on the farm to replace what's already up. And they've got a couple guys performing at $10+ million levels who are going to need to get paid if they keep them next year.
  14. Yes, he still has 1 left. Really? Huh. I was under the impression he was done with those after 11 years in the organization. Well, send him down then, he's not being used at all.
  15. Nothing to apologize for. He did an absolute piss poor job of generally managing the Cubs for several years and only began to turn things around when the ownership allowed for an increase in payroll matched only by a couple other teams.
  16. This and the Cleveland game from that year still has to be the most unbelievable back to back stretch in NFL history. i still owe my cousin a crap in the pants for that game...i was telling him to change the channel while saying "i'll ish my pants if they come back to win this one." we all know how it played out....kinda fitting that it was a game against the browns. I WAS AT THE BROWNS GAME... TOP MOMENT IN MY LIFE!!! STILL!!! FIRST BEARS GAME AT SOLIDER FIELD. Had to have been much more pleasant than my first (and only) game at Soldier Field. It was my freshman year in high school (1974) and I was in the high school band. We played in the stands at a game against the 49ers as a last-minute replacement (less than a week's notice) for a band that backed out. The weather was terrible (cold, windy, and rainy) and the Bears were getting blown out. We wound up leaving right after halftime when we were done playing. You're old. And a band nerd. HaHa! I was in the band too.
  17. Between 1:10 and 7:05. Cubs aren't in that window. You'll get the game. According to the directv extra innings schedule, the game will be shown on channel 696.
  18. You got to love Jim bringing up his obsession with LH bats during the Harden press conference. Mind giving some notes for those of us who don't have ESPNews? He praised Beane's professionalism and honesty in negotiations. Said he asked about Harden maybe 6 weeks ago, but things got a little more serious 10 days ago. He's got a pretty big smile. Gives Murton and Patterson a chance to get more playing time, and thinks Sean can be a really good starter for them right away. He's still in the mode he's always in which is constantly looking to improve the team (this seems to be a standard response for him, so I wouldn't take it as he's about to make another move or anything).
