  1. I wouldn't be surprised. But the guy has been around for what, 25 years? He's got to be in his 60's. I also wouldn't be surprised if he was planned for a long time, or a health issue.
  2. I bet fewer than 20 percent the standing, applauding fans know that DeRosa went to Penn. And I bet some of those people don't know that Penn is an Ivy League school. Only about 35% of Penn graduates know Penn is an Ivy League school.
  3. If he gets traded to the Mets will it be okay to give him a standing O again as long as you didn't see him the first three games? A) He was a pretty good player for 2 years, not some returning hero. B) You give the guy a standing O for his first PA, not the first opportunity you personally get to see him live in Wrigley Field.
  4. Indeed they did. DeRosa got a standing ovation as a pinch hitter, in a tie game, in the 8th inning on Saturday. Anyone who took part in that should be barred from Wrigley for life. That was embarrassing. If by embarrassing you mean absolutely awesome, than I completely agree with you. Seriously, why is that embarrassing? I think it's outstanding. He had already been "ovated" the day before. No reason to give him a standing O every game. As a position player the ovation in his first PA makes sense. Applauding him the next game in a big situation is pretty ridiculous. The guy was a nice player for the Cubs for 2 years. That's it. He was no hero or superstar.
  5. Why don't you think Bethpage will get the Open again for a while. I think the USGA loves the fact that it is a public course and has rowdy galleries. I think that is part of the reason that they brought it back to Bethpage so quickly. Yes, I think that was part of the reason why they gave it right back. Plus there may have been a little bit of a post 9/11 pro-NY feeling when it was awarded the tourny (assuming it was awarded after 2001 of course). But as I stated, there are multiple NY courses to choose from, and they are probably in-line before Bethpage again.
  6. Not really Bethpage's fault that it rained that much though. I mean, couldn't the same thing have happened at Winged Foot? No, it's not, but twice in 7 years, and the next 7 will not be in NY area. I've got to think another course in the area will get in next, and with 3 of 4 being on the east coast at the end of this 7 year period, it will probably be another few years after that Bethpage gets it. Shinnecock might be next in line.
  7. Most sunny time of tourny during trophy presentation.
  8. Oh, uh Glover made par and won, despite gong +3 for the round. Fairly anti-climactic finish to a really bizarre tournament. I'm guessing Bethpage won't be getting an Open again for a long time.
  9. I'm going to go ahead and guarantee Vitters will not go 0-4. but i do believe he will go hitless Is it extreme dyslexia to see Boise and read Peoria?
  10. It's already taken forever to finish. What's a few more hours?
  11. That is his MO, but I don't consider it choking. He gets lots of bogeys and lots of birdies. It's a tough course today and he put up one of the best scores today. Nice blonde cans cheering on Glover. For birdie. Leaves it ~3 feet short.
  12. Glover from 146 away puts it on the green, no reason why he shouldn't be able to par. Barnes is much closer, but walked all the way up to green to prepare for shot.
  13. I would love to see 4 man playoff.
  14. Duval misses birdie putt. Danny Glover leading by 2 teeing off on 18, slow, steady swing, stays on fairway more or less laying up. Duval nails par putt to finish -2 while Hat Guy tees off long. He's still in the mix at -2 (+6 on day).
  15. The guy with the horrible hat who came in with the lead and crumbled is the guy who choked. Phil made it interesting on a tough day for just about everybody. Damn, Duval looks like just about every weekend hacker I've seen play. Glover for par with a big breeze forcing him to take a step back. Now he's got to think about it. It's good. Duval with a potential birdie coming up on 18.
  16. Phil is done at -2. Duval just teed off just into rough on 18. Danny Glover lining up his birdie putt on 17.
  17. Glover now teeing off on 17. GET IN THE HOLE. p.s. it did not get in the hole, but it'll be a long birdie putt. Slo-mo of from behind of phil taking his hands out of his pockets. Now he's pacing as he approaches his lonog birdie putt on 18. (choker guy just put it right next to Glover's tee) and Phil misses long birdie by an inch. Easy par putt coming up.
  18. Phil with back to back bogies and Danny Glover birdied to go -4 Duval at -3 Phil at -2 Oops, Duval just lipped a par putt to fall to -2.
  19. That would be a terrible idea. Why's that? He will turn 35 before cactus league opens play and if the Cubs finish in the top half of the league they'll lose a draft pick (unless I'm mistaken and those compensation rules have changed). There was never anything wrong with trading DeRosa. The problem was getting minor league relievers for him and replacing him with Miles. If the motivation was to sell high on a guy with a unique late career boost in performance, great, although since I suspect the motivation was a lot more about getting more LH, it's annoying.
  20. Phil for eagle......... it's good. Tied for lead.
  21. I'm not really sure if putting any replacement level player in for Soriano counts as 'forfeit' lineup. Theriot hasn't been much better. Anyway lets pound him like we pounded him last year Yeah, getting Hoff/Fox/Blanco in the game with Soriano/Theriot sitting is more like a push than a forfeit.
  22. But before that he used to be a tubby. Oh yeah? Didn't realize that. I just remembered him like this before I saw him yesterday... http://www.sportspool.com/golf/player_profiles/David_Duval.jpg I don't remember what he looked like, but I do remember all the stories of him losing a bunch of weight when he emerged as a top player.
  23. He made every start until he got hurt. It seems like he hasn't pitched much because he missed nearly a month on the DL. And while it wasn't an arm injury, it was clearly related to throwing, which has caused him all sorts of injuries in his career.
  24. But before that he used to be a tubby.
