  1. Yep. TV coverage started at 9am EST. What channel? NBC is showing the Today show still. ESPN. Switches to NBC at 11:30. I must have accidentally turned to espn2 earlier because I saw tennis. Damn I wasted all morning with news on the TV (I guess that's why it's there though).
  2. No. Cutler is the biggest acquisition in recent memory and easily the most important pickup in the offseason. cutler is easily the biggest acquisition in bears history. My brother in law was over yesterday and said he wasn't all that excited about the Bears this year. I said "What? We got freaking Cutler!" He said "Who's Cutler?" Wife's brother or sister's husband? Either way, punch him. If you include draft picks I think Walter is still the bigger acquisition at this point. But Cutler is probably the biggest trade/signing.

  4. MLB probably thinks it's a good thing to keep the Cubs payroll stagnant. But in reality these negotiations have not held the payroll hostage. It's risen steadily since it was announced they were up for sale. It's Hendry's fault for committing the 2009/2010 dollars that he committed if he feels held hostage at this point.
  5. This weekend's weather was absolutely horrible. Are they playing yet?
  6. No. Cutler is the biggest acquisition in recent memory and easily the most important pickup in the offseason.
  7. i cant respect any gallery that treats phil mickleson like the messiah they love everybody. except colin montgomerie probably. everyone behaves like the stereotype of a loud italian guy from the bronx, complete with 20 morons yelling "get in the hole" after every swing - including a tee shot on a par 5. I don't know if you watch much golf but that happens at every course around the country. But it really only takes about 2 guys to make it seem like everybody in a golf crowd is behaving the same way. I went to the US Open a few years ago and the crowd itself is nothing like that. It's just the voices that get on TV that make it seem that way.
  8. Blanco's postgame interview was hilarious. Where's today's game thread?
  9. Lee doesn't field ground balls well, but he's good at picking most throws. But all first basemen pick it, and he's not nearly the best at it. Plus, he was an extremely disappointing hitter for 6 straight months, and has now been good for 1.5. Let's not get all excited. He's still a high paid 1B, and anything short of great production out of a player like that is unacceptable.
  10. Double switch. Gregg is taking his spot so now pitching spot is furthest from where the Cubs are in their order.
  11. Why? That's very weird. I'm a Cubs fan above all else in baseball. I don't care who plays for them when they win a WS, I just want to see them win a freaking WS. I like Wood and all, but don't see how it could be the least bit bittersweet to see him give up a run to the Cubs.
  12. He hasn't been decent. He hasn't been inconsistent either, he's been consistently wild. His walks are horrible.
  13. Which is more then proves the point. If Lovie knows he's on the hotseat, he should be (at least I know I would be) trying to convince my boss to give me the best team possible. If I (or in this case Smith) can't coach up the talent then the coach should be fired. But it also goes to show that if Angelo has to fired Smith, then logically speaking Angelo would then be on the hotseat. Which means it is in the best interests of both guys to put the best team possible out on the field, for job security. Angelo had a chance to fire a coach and hire his guy already. I'm not sure he'd get a chance to do it again. I just don't sense this is make-or-break for Angelo. If I'm wrong, so be it. I don't think it's make or break necessarily. A 9/10 win season probably doesn't effect either guy. A sub .500 could put them both on the hot seat, while a disaster season could end their stay. A big 12+ win season with a playoff victory would, however, put both of them it fantastic position to be able to get whatever they want. Angelo could justify extending Lovie again. I get the feeling that Angelo senses they have an opportunity to take over the division for a couple years. Without a 1st round pick this year or next, they also have to get their players elsewhere, and don't have to budget for big money picks.

  15. But Angelo and Lovie might be. I think a big reason for the trade was Angelo felt he had to do something to significantly improve the 2009 team. Exactly. Which is why they haven't close the book on acquiring a WR like Marshall or Plax. I thought that was abundantly clear when Angelo was trying to acquire Boldin during the draft. Yeah, that's what I was alluding to, not sure why I didn't finish the thought. I don't know if they will get a WR, but I get the impression that Angelo is not in the "well let's get one of these this year and one of those next year and possibly one of those the year after" modes. He went after lots of line help and the franchise QB, plus brought in LB despite depth at that position. He sounds like a guy who would really like to get a WR.
  16. 4.89, 4.48, 3.33, 2.88 At best, two of those things do not belong. W/E all I am saying is that Cliff Lee is good, but not superman as you making him out to be. I hate the Brewers but they would have creamed Lee. Why would you assume that? They barely beat half the teams they face, why would you assume they'd beat a good pitcher?
  17. A 1.52 WHIP is absolutely terrible by anyone's standards. He's walked about a batter per inning. So no, he's not having a good year. The league average WHIP for a reliever is 1.43. I'm not sure how 1.52 is "absolutely terrible." Relievers are by definition lesser pitchers. That includes all sorts of duds. Being below average of that group is pretty terrible.

  19. What most people?
  20. But he's not overrated. He's considered one of the best pitchers of the game when he's healthy and consistent. And hes very very rarely consistent and healthy so in my opinion hes overrated. He would only be overrated if people claimed he was more healthy and consistently good than he is. You can't just use overrated as a way of describing a guy who is not a great 200 inning pitcher, unless people actually describe that person as a great 200 inning pitcher. He's flawed. He's far from an ideal starting pitcher.
  21. Since now that Harden's given up some runs and he needs to find someone to be pissed off about. Yea thats it. Lets ignore that little fact that he was terrible near the end of last year, and has been terrible this year. But yea your right Im just trying to find something to be pissed about. I still don't see how he's overrated. His weak spots are noted whenever he is discussed. If he's really healthy right now, it's a new part of his game (sucking while being healthy). It was widely acknowledged he was not 100% late last year but the Cubs needed him to pitch and hoped he would be there. That's part of the reason why I was hoping they would be more cautious at the start of this year, instead of just throwing him out there every 5th day and then letting his pitch counts increase steadily until something happened.
  22. I wouldn't assume he's healthy right now. But the fact is he was one of the greatest pitchers, when healthy. He wasn't regarded that way for nothing. This is not normal. At least not for healthy Harden. Nobody's been singing his praises this year.
  23. I think he's extremely inconsistent. Which is part of the reason hes overrated as hell. I don't know how he's overrated as hell. He was great for the Cubs last year. But everybody has always acknowledged that his weakness is staying healthy and being consistently effective.
  24. Time to revisit the Harden to the bullpen idea. He can't stay healthy as a full-time starter and he's had a few looks good early falls apart quickly outings.
  25. Who is this pervert on the radio? "I don't know if you've ever done blow by blow but it's pretty exciting for a 17-year old."
