  1. Even if all he cares about is himself (which there really isn't any evidence to support) that is all that matter, because the only thing he can do to help the team is to have personal success. He doesn't need to block for another hitter or pass the ball either.
  2. It was a no brainer to not sign Miles, but they did, so that's not a realistic option.
  3. That's not at all what I see. He said they toyed with it in May, and he'll check back again now. Odds are, if they stuck with him through June, they will stick with him for as long as they need.
  4. So, when Ramirez returns, does Fox or Blanco go down? I assume when Johnson returns Fuld goes down. How about Miles? Fox, Blanco or Patton?
  5. Milton Bradley has acted like he cares, and he's sucked. Soriano has acted exactly like he's always acted, and he's been terrible. You can't fake baseball playing ability with emotion.
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4301461 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/allan_muir/07/01/hossa.blackhawks/index.html ESPN's people seem to believe the deal is pretty good. CNNSI's does not. The SI guy seems focused on the length, and the situations with Toews, Kane and Keith. From what I can tell, the length works out great by reducing the cap hit, which basically makes it easier to resign those guys. They were never going to just be a team led by those three. They had to have other impact players. A top notch winger at a $5.2m cap hit is very beneficial. When you compare it to Patrick Sharp at 3.9, I'd say the Hossa hit is much more fair, for what he brings to the table. And the length thing isn't that big of a deal. I don't see him playing 12 years. There will be incentive for him to retire toward the end. But if he doesn't, they will have flexibility to do stuff with him. If he was making $7m per year for the life, yes, that would be an issue, but he's not.
  7. That is not at all the likelihood. 10 more days is much more likely to help than not help. It's 10 more days, but only 6 more games. They are going to cut short potential rehab time by a week and a half just to get him in 4 or 5 more games.
  8. Right, but the more time he has, the more rehab he can do, the more strength he can build. If the Cubs were over .500, not hitting like a girls softball team, and not about to face the Cardinals, I do not think he would be back until after the ASB. I think this decision is being made based on things other than what is best for the return of Aramis Ramirez.
  9. The sales talks have reportedly heated up the past couple weeks, Ricketts may be able to give Hendry the green light in a couple weeks.
  10. I'd think it would improve things, probably not fix them entirely, but make them better. The point is he could get 10 more days of rest but only miss 6 games. You'd have to imagine he's going to get a few of those days off anyway, so you are eliminating 10 more days of rehab to maybe get him into 4 or 5 more games. I don't think they make that decision if they are a game back, which says to me that it's the wrong decision.
  11. The question is, what good offensive bat can we get this year? Especially if the Baker trade confirms that Hendry is committed to Fontenot at second base? There have been several names mentioned in threads/posts, some that realistically might be had in a trade that involved Wells. The Pirates have always been a good trade partner w/the Cubs and are already selling off pieces. F. Sanchez would be a good/smart target. The problem with acquiring a second baseman, though, is that Hendry appears to be committed to Fontenot at second base. Just because Hendry is committed to something doesn't mean it's the right decision. Regardless, they have a month before the trading deadline, maybe he's committed to it until then. There's no reason to sell off what limited resources you have for another reliever when in a month you may regret not having those resources for something that will actually have a significant impact.
  12. The quotes were regarding him taking BP during the Detroit series that has already happened. It sounds like they were considering rushing him back then - but didn't. I haven't heard him say anything about Monday's date.
  13. Vitters moving quickly and Ramirez exercising his opt out clause could make it happen. I'm not sure if you would qualify Ramirez declining his option as a disaster though. I forgot the Ramirez option was for 2011. I still think it would be very bad if that happens and Vitters is rushed to the majors.
  14. Seems like more of a Miles replacement, honestly. Fontenot can't hit LHs, Blanco doesn't hit anyone well, and Miles can't stay healthy or hit well. At least Baker can hit LHs But Miles isn't on the roster. I guess Freel could be cut.
  15. Which is why I was shocked the last hitter that inning watched a fastball down the middle for strike three after Wells shook off Soto 3 times. You could see how amped up he was (although the call is what set him off, not Lou) and that's when you have to expect a guy trying to get cocky with his fastball.
  16. Ramirez's quotes certainly sound like he's rushing back before he's healed and that more time could have helped.
  17. Looked like a half-assed "explosion" from Lou to me. Randy Wells showed more fire when he said, "are you ******* kidding me?!?!" The whole time Lou was out there I was thinking of him saying, "HEY MAN PEOPLE ARE GETTING ON ME FOR NOT SHOWING FIRE CAN YOU PLEASE TOSS ME SOON SO WE CAN PRETEND THAT SORT OF THING WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH HOW MUCH EFFORT OUR PLAYERS GIVE AND BE THE THING THAT TURNS US AROUND. OKAY THANKS VERY MUCH I'M GOING TO GET MY HAT NOW AND GO TAKE MY BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE BECAUSE I'M GETTING TO OLD FOR THIS $#!&!!!
  18. I just love the ole' "RBI guy" label. Since these guys are in a union, do you think the RBI guys get pissed when non RBI guys get an RBI?
  19. Unless the bad contracts are bad for different reasons. The Hawks have cap space to burn this season, there are some teams that are pretty tight to the cap. If they could swing a deal for guys on shorter contracts it could work in both teams favor.
  20. I could see Ramirez moving to 1st, but I don't see any realistic way that Vitters is the everyday 3b by then. That is my concern though. He'll be 21 at the start of that season. With a half season of low A, a half season of high A, and presumably one year of AA. The pressure on him to succeed early will be immense.
  21. If they know he's going to sign soon how do they not have an idea where?
  22. what's the rumor?
  23. On that note, where did all this Brenly nonsense start? Was there a rumor, was somebody just calling for a change at manager?
  24. Once again, show me ANY team that has won the WS that wasn't talented. This is just a ridiculous stance to take. "Oh, Brenly had a good team, so that's why he won". But your stance is they won because he personally figured out a way to maximize their scoring chances. Why did they stop maximizing a couple years later? LOL! I NEVER said that the D-Backs won because of Brenly. I said that he is a guy who's teams ( when they have talent like any other good team) play smart, sound baseball. He's also a well balanced manager as far as when and when not to play small ball, which the 2001 D-Backs perfectly prove. What teams? He has managed one team. He won one WS, then shortly after his team got really bad and he's done nothing but rant and rave about making things happen on the basepaths in a booth.
