Historically, sexual assault/harassments coverups have worked. Sandusky was arrested in 2011, after this assault happened. Before that, you had the Catholic church scandal sort of out in the open but other than that, Larry Nassar was molesting kids, along with other trainers and doctors and coaches all over the country, not to mention Weinstein, Epstein and all of that. Blowback to the coverup only really became a thing after Paterno's downfall, and even he had widespread support. The easiest thing to do in retrospect would be to fire the guy quietly, sure, but that requires paperwork and effort and decisions unrelated to hockey. So the actual easiest thing to do is nothing. You have to be proactive to root out sexual abusers and that is hard.
