  1. I think Westbrook could be more useful in a Martz system than any sort of "hammer". And Forte plus a hammer would really be undynamic as a RB group.
  2. Yeah, I don't quite get how putting Castro in AA would be holding him back. It's not like AAA is a prerequisite for playing in the majors. Considering the first month of it is often played in horrendous weather, that may be even more reason to have him start in AA.
  3. I agree, if you only think you need 100-150 touches out of him.
  4. Chinese woman's curling team unis look like McDonald's sponsored them.
  5. http://deadspin.com/5476701/oregon-pretty-much-imploding-before-our-very-eyes-update?skyline=true&s=i
  6. The Phillies were the joke of the Nat. league 'till the '50s...they did not win a WS 'till the '80s!! They got notice in '64 for a good team that collapsed in the final 2 weeks, but thats not a good story! They have NO Cobb or Greenburg in their history, and the Tigers have won many pennants over the years. The town itself took little notice of them until the Athletics decided to become a farm system for the Yankees, and eventually moved to KC. Philly has 7 pennants to Detroit's 10, they have an equally legendary announcer, they have numerous legendary players. I think each organization is fairly similar. Been around a very long time, some success, some legends.
  7. Wonder why you asked, "What do you do?" twice. To add tension.
  8. Why Detroit more storied than Philly?
  9. Pop quiz, hotshot. There's a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do? What do you do?
  10. If you're actually bringing in big bucks to a company you can get paid quickly. And 3 years is a long time to wait in an industry where a 12-year career is a long one. There's really no point in noting that he got a big raise. That's how the system is set up. Depends on the industry, goony. Besides, 3 years isn't that long when you're making $500k. While that's low compared to MLB, it's incredible compared even to the minors. Plus, players can be so streaky that having FA start right away or after 1 year would create a great deal of risk. All things considered, it just doesn't seem unreasonable or "unfair." None of which really addresses the point of Derwood's post. What are you even arguing at this point? Ryan Theriot became a professional baseball player 10 years ago. He started playing in the majors 5 years ago, and he's just now starting to make some real baseball money. There was no point to Derwood's post.
  11. What is the phrase that they (CSN, Reinsdorf, Garfein) have been using to describe the White Sox rotation this year? Something like best AL rotation in 20 years.
  12. This isn't baseball, you can't hope for a declining vet to put one last good year together. RBs do not return to glory, they disappear in an instant. Nobody should have any interest in LDT going to Chicago except for Bears opponents.
  13. What's so amazing about a bunch of Cubs fans focuing primarily on the dumassedry that comes out of the Cubs GM's mouth while not paying particular attention to what another team's GM says? My point is that the Hendry-bashers need to open their eyes and ears and realize that most of the other GMs are making the same comments and moves that Hendry is making. Why? Most of the teams in baseball don't make the playoffs. A dumb move is a dumb move regardless of how many other people make it.

  15. it's not difficult to get your Rolle's mixed up
  16. I'm very confused about the course of this debate, but between worrying about handedness and seeing some people are pushing the "who will leadoff and who will bat 2nd" story, it's fair to say all the real important questions have been answered. Oh, and somebody wrote Park was promised a shot at the Cubs rotation before signing with the Yanks. I really hope the new bathrooms are nice.
  17. I will definitely take the under on Nady's 400 AB, and with or without a knee, Soriano is probably going to suck.
  18. Before the economic crunch, the only justification to sign with the Yankees was money. Well, money and best chance to win every year.

  20. So might as well get it over with early is what you're saying?
  21. Was that just a gutter ball? I just saw a stone bouncing off the side wall.
  22. The coach needs to cover that giant zit.
  23. Yes, he's missed them due to injury, then returned. But this is a whole new story, and the time off could help him, as well as help his reputation.
  24. That was absolutely the only thing I cared about. I think he'll still be back before The Masters. Actually it could make a lot of sense for him to skip a major, just to remind golf how important he is to the game. This has gone on during the offseason and he's missed some meaningless stuff, but if he misses big tournaments, that becomes the story and people will be begging for his return.
