  1. Because men can't sexually harrass men?
  2. The US has dominated possession, but the Swiss have done a great job of getting in their way and decreasing the value of those chances.
  3. There was some article a while back where she said she picks out her clothes... can't remember where it was. Someone had interviewed her about her style. Still, at any other employer, that's sexual harassment -- whether his comments were accurate (I think they were, despite Storm being a fox) or otherwise. Except he has a history of criticizing everyone...male or female...for any number of things, including attire. I think sexual harrassment would be a tough thing to prove. A history of criticizing doesn't make up for anything.
  4. US is so sloppy.
  5. Pretty bad start.
  6. This. TK went overboard but the overall point was correct. It was hideous and an anchor shouldn't be wearing anything like that. The overall point was wrong.
  7. He's been a pro since 2006 and has yet to have an impressive season. His overall numbers are very mediocre, and he's far from young. He is already 25 years old, with 436 professional innings following up 240 innings of major college pitching. He is what he is. At this point it would be a huge stretch to see him as a successful starter. He may turn into a decent reliever, but that wouldn't justify the investment they made in him, in terms of time, money, draft position and no trade clause. Remember this is the guy the Cubs used to justify overdrafting Colvin, and a huge portion of any prospects value is his trade value, which is zilch in the case of Samardzija.
  8. It's really weird to be passionate enough about a coach to follow the team's he moves to.
  9. He absolutely was not correct. It was both blatantly inappropriate, and completely wrong*. *Not to mention at least a year late to the party.
  10. yesterday
  11. Those four are most likely, though Lilly has said he wants to be ready to go at the start of the year. The darkhorse would be Thomas Diamond. The only way Wells is 4th is in the case of Lilly starting the season (not going to happen). Most likely 2 of those 4 will have to start early in the year.
  12. I feel like this post is missing a word somewhere. Now we can fill in the missing verb. mosi tatutpu, father of lofa, and member of football's version of the washington generals, the 1985 patriots, was signed by the Cubs today to bring a second strong clubhouse presence alongside Kevin Millar. As long as it was a minor league contract I don't mind.
  13. I feel like this post is missing a word somewhere.
  14. Probably not stone, but the Cubs do not let go of guaranteed contracts that easily, especially ones signed by left handed hitters.
  15. One hopes that "Improve clubhouse chemistry" isn't this years' "get more lefthanded" or "acquire guys who can catch the ball". On the plus side, I've not seen any direct quotes from Lou, Hendry or anyone else involved in personnel decisions to suggest that Fontenot's move is related to Millar's potential roster spot. This seems to be a fabrication of Sullivan, et al. It seems to be, and it could just be the Cubs screwing around and trying to fabricate some sort of spring training competition, but I've questioned their motives for bringing in Millar from the beginning. There are better options to store in AAA for emergency purposes. The idea that they think his chemical abilities in spring training will somehow carry over into the regular season after he is gone makes even less sense than thinking he will positively influence the outcome of the season with his personality by being there all year.
  16. In my case I have reasons for all three. I was living in the Chicago area when I first started following football, I was living in Indiana when the Colts moved from Baltimore, and I was living in North Carolina when the Panthers started (and still am in NC). It's no trouble for me as long as I have a clear pecking order when it comes to the teams. For example, in Super Bowl XLI I wasn't happy that the Bears lost, I was just less unhappy than I would have been if they had lost to somebody else. That may be how you justify it to yourself, but it still doesn't make sense. I've lived in the NY area for nearly two decades, other than occasionally cheering for the Jets in a non-Bears related game since I have friends who are Jets fans (and I like seeing them get their hopes up and then crushed), I don't have a single ounce of fandom for any of the teams. I've seen every team play at home live except the Islanders, I've seen numerous championships and I haven't even considered being a fan.
  17. I don't get how it happens with pro sports. There's a limited number of teams in any given league and it seems cut and dry. I can understand with college sports, where one may have grown up as a fan of one team but went to college at another school, and with hundreds of options and the potential for you "favorites" to never play, it makes sense. I can see cheering for another team when yours is out of it, but to actually have a second and third favorite just makes no sense to me.

  19. This is just a horrible, horrible statement. You already knew that I'm a bad person, though, since I'm on record as liking Survivor. This shouldn't surprise you. As far as liking reality shows goes, that's not the most offensive.
  20. He may lack the scrappy middle infielder criteria, but he's only 6' and he is white, so the shoe can still fit.
  21. The interests of the lesser prospect should not be the deciding factor, but there's nothing wrong with it accounting for part of the question. The fact that they have a SS for AAA could be just the thing to push your decision to keep him in AA if all else is equal. I am in favor of conservative promotions unless a guy owns a league for a considerable period, and that hasn't happened with Castro in AA yet. He's still young for that level and there's really no drawback to having him start in AA. The fact that they have a deserving guy at AAA just makes it easier to not fell pressure to put Castro there unnecessarily.
  22. Paul Sullivan hates me, writing today that the Cubs are trying Fontenot at shortstop as a way to squeeze Millar onto the roster, since they just so love his chemistry muscle and intangible tendons.

  25. The Phillies were the joke of the Nat. league 'till the '50s...they did not win a WS 'till the '80s!! They got notice in '64 for a good team that collapsed in the final 2 weeks, but thats not a good story! They have NO Cobb or Greenburg in their history, and the Tigers have won many pennants over the years. The town itself took little notice of them until the Athletics decided to become a farm system for the Yankees, and eventually moved to KC. Philly has 7 pennants to Detroit's 10, they have an equally legendary announcer, they have numerous legendary players. I think each organization is fairly similar. Been around a very long time, some success, some legends. I don't know who the Philly anouncer is now...is it the guy that called the Micheal Jack Schmit thing that's replayed so often? Ernie Harwell? Isn't Ernine Harwell the Detroit announcer? Harry Kalas was the Philly announcer and he was the voice of NFL Films and Inside the NFL. Very well known, did the 7th inning stretch in Wrigley quite often. I only included him because you talked about other announcers.
