He's been a pro since 2006 and has yet to have an impressive season. His overall numbers are very mediocre, and he's far from young. He is already 25 years old, with 436 professional innings following up 240 innings of major college pitching. He is what he is. At this point it would be a huge stretch to see him as a successful starter. He may turn into a decent reliever, but that wouldn't justify the investment they made in him, in terms of time, money, draft position and no trade clause. Remember this is the guy the Cubs used to justify overdrafting Colvin, and a huge portion of any prospects value is his trade value, which is zilch in the case of Samardzija.
