  1. Lou was just as much involved in the "get more lefthanded" push as Hendry was, if not more. That led to DeRosa being traded (good move) and Aaron Miles being signed (very, very bad move), among other moves. It was also Lou's dislike of Eyre that got him moved and probably the same way with Wuertz. Ever since he took over as GM, Hendry has been extremely manager-friendly and seeks out the types of players his managers want. The manager doesn't pick the specific players I'm sure, but the manager does have very significant input on the types of players he wants Hendry to target. You mean like when they went out and got Jim Edmonds? And the evidence that Fredi only wants the right players is where? He coached on an Atlanta team with legendary player development success and then managed a Florida team that was very young. The managers input is miniscule in comparison to Hendry's actual track record.
  2. Ernie and Billy too tough for you?
  3. Dibble has been poop-canned.
  4. That's not a very convincing case. 1950 ain't that long ago. Both teams have other more meaningful trophy games.
  5. Are you really that desperate for a win Quade? Marmol shouldn't be attempting 4 out saves.
  6. HUh? Was the out a sacrifice? I didn't know he had another AB in the game yesterday (which was an out) until after I posted it. But......, you posted 4 AB and listed the 5 different at bats, no?
  7. Just an FYI, Nebraska plays their home games in Nebraska. Yeah, but my understanding is it's a quick couple hour trip from Chicago. Seriously though, 9 hours?? What the [expletive] Try continuing on to Colorado.
  8. BYU announces 6-year football series with Notre Dame
  9. The Chicago Tribune has had someone parked in that press box since 1916 - Sullivan should know this was never truly the case, and shouldn't be reporting as though it was. It's not about the Tribune selling the story, it's a national assumption about Cubs fans and has been for a long time. Bruce Miles is also reporting on the lack of attendance. Why do you care that they are reporting about empty seats?
  10. Not true at all. That storyline was alive and well before 2003. The 3 million mark in annual attendance wasn't breached until 2004. So what? The reputation of Cubs fans filling the stadium regardless of record was around well before then.

  12. But if there's a pattern of Hendry always following those requests then getting a new manager could impact personnel decisions as well. Hendry cannot pawn blame off on the manager because ultimately it's his decision. But if Fredi comes in and requests more valuable things, would Hendry probably not honor those requests as well? I don't know of a single player that's on this team because of Lou. Baker fell in love with some non-walking scrubs, but Hendry was all about that type of player until he kept getting hounded about the lack of walks and OBP. Baker killed some arms and preached a lack of patience that Hendry had been pushing since he was working in the minors. I don't see a huge impact by managerial desires and I see very little chance for a smart manager to get Hendry to make smart moves.
  13. They put in their requests, but it's Jim Hendry's team.
  14. No one's at the game either: http://twitpic.com/2k2l5n Sullivan's hand-wringing over the crowds strikes me as silly. Look at Tampa, San Diego and Cincinnati for attendance stories. The contending Sox are a nice study as well. I think it's noteworthy, especially when you consider all the nonsense about Wrigley being full and fans being happy regardless of record and outcome. Jim Hendry's failures are costing the team money in the form of empty seats.
  15. The manager has contributed to the dialogue but this has very clearly been Jim Hendry's team for the bulk of the decade.
  16. Yes, rivalries are a top priority for determining the division. Cross divisional rivalries are not a top priority. Rivalries whether within the same division or across division are the same thing. The only thing that matters (mattered) in regards to rivalries to the Big Ten ADs is that they'd get to play the teams they wanted to play every year. I don't understand what your complaint is. No matter what you do somebody will feel some rivalry is getting the shaft, but you are complaining about cross division rivals when all that means is the rival already exists within the division.
  17. Seriously, it's the manager. It's the least important move they will make this winter. I just don't see the point in getting worked up one way or the other while the guy who keeps putting together disappointing rosters is still in charge in putting together the roster.

  19. Well it's a good thing Jay is just as smooth and attractive to ladies as Brady is. Brady wasn't the ladies man he is until he won Super Bowls.
  20. The cross division rivalries should not be a high priority. And no matter how you break it down there's going to be "odd ones", like interleague baseball games nobody cares about. The setup discussed earlier (flipping Minnesota and Illinois in this setup) makes perfect sense for cross-division rivalries. Cross division rivals should not be the first priority. Getting the divisions right should be the top priority. I would claim it's unfair just because it puts Illinois and Indiana together, automatically giving everybody in their division 2 wins.

  22. So far in his career, he hasn't really shown an ability to have a high OBP unless it's tied to his average. I have no problem with him focusing on having a high batting average (considering his doubles power has actually increased during his hot streak), but I agree "First rookie to win a batting title" could end up really increasing his salary demands down the road. It has been tied to his AVG, but not bad. He's had an IsoD around 50-60 most of the time, but in the second half of this year it's at 23. He's drawn 4 walks in the second half while pursuing the batting title. He's only struck out in 11.9% of PA and obviously he has been productive, but it's a little troubling to see him abandon any sense of patience. This second half streak is unsustainable, with .410 BABIP. The guy can't turn into a just put the ball in play guy and live up to expectations.
  23. He's probably the best trade chip of the Cubs four outfielders. He's hardly irreplacable and his reputation right now is probably at its peak.
  24. He did a pretty admirable job shining up [expletive] in Florida. I don't see why someone wouldn't be excited Because Jim Hendry is the Cubs GM, and Florida has outperformed the Cubs during Hendry's era. They've had young relatively inexpensive players, not excrement.
