    ted lilly, aramis, derosa, barrett (offensively) also hahahaha @ "nuggets" Ted Lilly isn't really a nugget. He was a very good pitcher who pitched very well before during and after* being a Cub. *I assume.

    He went on to say he has had a couple blowups but what really hurt him is that he didn't pitch well for a year and a half. Can somebody tell me when this year and a half of not pitching well took place?

    He's right. They obviously don't need a good Jeter in order to make the playoffs. That doesn't make him right nor does it justify ignoring how bad he's been.

    I think it's pretty clear this isn't true. Lovie has a very low threshold for accomplishment needed to keep his job.

    I read earlier that he was recovering from some undisclosed illness and felt fine.

    That's going to require all sorts of 2 games series that the union hates playing in, take away a whole bunch of gate revenue from the games that actually matter to fans and add on a whole bunch of travel costs. There's just no good reason to try and emphasize a balanced schedule. It's a 162 game schedule, the best teams are going to make the playoffs.

    It really doesn't make sense. You don't care about it in the NFL but even though you realize it doesn't make much of a difference you care about it in MLB.

    I saw a headline that said Karl Ravich doesn't understand why people are talking about Jeter's season and they should only worry about what he does in October. I thought he was the one sane person around the ESPN/MLB tonight crew.

    Another nooner. This time Chicago is an 8.5 point dog, which is more ridiculous than last week when they were 6.5 point favorites. Dallas has been one of the most overrated franchises of the decade and they are coached by one of the few guys who may be dumber than Lovie Smith. The Bears got lucky they didn't lose last week, but Detroit was probably lucky they weren't blown out. This game has been penciled in as a loss on just about every iteration of how the season plays out, so a win here would go a very long way toward making the higher end predictions a possibility.

    I agree on the call to go for it, but not on the decision to run Forte to the left. It always seems like he gets stuffed when the Bears need him to punch it in or convert on a 3rd and short. The Vikings goal-line stand in the Metrodome in 2008 comes to mind. He takes too much time getting to the line of scrimmage and doesn't run aggressively. Putting in Chester Taylor on that 4th down would have been the better move and in my opinion, he would have scored the touchdown. I think we'll see Taylor in on 3rd/4th and short more often. the bears have a bad line and routinely get stuffed. You don't run there unless you are meathead who thinks his team is tougher than it is

    The defense was very weak except for one play vs stafford and when Detroit shut down for hill.
