    I remember when we hired Q, some of the talk was that he couldn't win in the big games, couldn't win in the playoffs. You can't win the big games, until suddenly you do win the big games. He's been the right guy at the right time for the Hawks. I heard some criticism about working with kids and winning in the playoffs. Neither holds up now.

    It's going to take quite a bit of work to turn this team into a regular 90 game winner (which is what they should be), but it really shouldn't take all that much investment to make them a contender in 2011. It's still the NL Central, where an 84 win pace is good enough for 2nd this year and none of the competition is elite. 80-something win seasons win this division as often as 90+ win seasons.

    Does their current status actually affect NCAA revenue? Deals are in place and contracts are signed years in advance, do you think they'd suffer much without them?

    Don Banks raised them from 29 to 25. Meanwhile he rips the pathetic Jets but keeps them in the top 10. I think the Jets and Bears aren't that far away from one another (and I'm not sure which team is better).

I think it's pretty clear williams is better than hillenmeyer, not accusing anybody who thinks Detroit was robbed of being some meatball who wants Ditka to fry them some brats. But it's backup linebackers we're talking about, not exactly a whole lot to go on. I still think Hunter outlived his usefulness a while ago.

    They put Hillenmeyer on the IR when he didn't think he needed to, so obviously they deemed him expendable.

    Hillenmeyer stopped being useful a couple years ago. Williams is better than he is now, without question.

    They also had people leaving that city in droves, going elsewhere, but taking their fandom with them.

    He was over the top negative again last night with the "dog" comments. Lots of people are pissed at Aramis for talking about maybe not exercising his option but then saying that he probably will. I don't get why that causes consternation.

    Why would the Cubs have to wait at least 2 seasons to rebuild? it might take that long to replace Hendry.

    I must have missed where it said the game was on ESPN, but all I see is they are one of several opening day games. Whether or not they are ESPN is meaningless, it's opening day, any game is going to be pushed as big.

    Lots of people taking the Cowboys as a suicide pick this week. But at the same time the line has gone from 8.5 to 8.

    What? A one time upper class organization that has been pretty crappy for a while now whose last really successful era was in the 70's? Kind of fits. Not sure who else is better.

    Yeah but I thought the Packers were the best match, making the playoffs almost as often as the Braves, and only winning 1 title each, in the mid-90's. I think the Packers are much better match for the Cardinals. A sanctimonious fan base that thinks it is the center of the heartland of its sport.

    Pittsburgh is hated, big time. They might have the most obnoxious non-Cowboys fan base, as well as the most ubiquitous. Every NFL city is loaded with Steelers bars and obnoxious Steelers fans. Their 70's teams were successful scumbags. The Patriots are almost perfectly matched to the Red Sox. Irrelevant until this decade, save for an embarrassing loss in the big game in the mid 80's, a woe is me fan base that has now become spoiled babies. Sure it's cheap and easy to combine the two, but they are really the same.

    Why would the Cubs open on a Saturday? And why is it obvious that Braves/Nats game was scheduled for a Strasburg outing?

    Eagles = Braves. In the playoffs every year, almost always a bridesmaid never a bride.

    No. Nononononononononono. New England has been relavent for a decade. Pittsburgh or the Giants are better options. The Giants win titles in every decade.

I watched a little bit and fast forwarded to a point when some guy in the STL booth was talking about the STL way of winning and he started going off on how the Cubs don't have a way of a winning (or some such nonsense) when I think Barney singled to center for an RBI. He tried to keep talking about that subject but then got lost.
