    Yeah, like that guy at SS. I agree the article is ridiculous. But one can argue Castro hasn't shown much either, and not too many people seem outraged at the hype. The justification for the hype is completely different.

But when the stadium half full it becomes an issue to pay back what was borrowed You said he bought the Cubs for half of what they're worth, so fine let's subtract the 180 from 845(total purchase price of Cubs + Wrigley + CSN share) and you've got 665. You think the Cubs were worth 333M?? What the hell kind of math are you people discussing?

    I saw that and wanted to rip it to shreds, then I took a peak at everybody's batting lines and it's not as ridiculous as I was thinking. But it's still pretty stupid, most notably the "best player on the team" comment.

    This happens to me on the TV and Movie thread, and I find it's actually quite easy to just go back 2 pages, skim a little and then start reading. It takes about 30 seconds to catch up.

    Yeah, any Kosuke contract would have to keep from interfering with Jackson's playing time in Chicago and a pursuit of Kemp. If we can do those two things, though, a .360-.400 OBP would look really nice staying at the top of the order. I actually made a thread about this a while back. I'd like to keep Kosuke around, as long as it wouldn't block anyone. He just bought a house in Chicago and said he'd like to stay here, so maybe he could be kept around for a reasonable amount, maybe 5-7MM per, maybe on a year to year basis. Now that it appears that Colvin might have been a mirage, it opens up some options. If Byrd could be dealt, it would increase the viability of the idea. I like Kosuke's OBP and defense a lot. Much depends on how the rest of this year plays out. If he maintains performance throughout the season, he might draw a fair amount of interest. I'd like to justify bringing him back myself, especially since this is such a pathetic walk taking team. But I don't think it is realistic.

Asking for significant change isn't reactionary. Getting worked up over a quote on June 1st is. There are plenty of people unhappy with some decisions and the general state of the franchise who aren't overreacting to a quote in the paper. To answer your question, this next offseason will tell the tale for me, not a quote. I'm not changing anything. You said piling on right now is completely reactionary. It was a nonsensical attack by you on anybody who has negative feelings toward the way the Cubs are being run by Ricketts and his employees. Ricketts has had plenty of time to make better decisions than the ones he has made so far (namely keeping with the status quo).

He had plenty of pre-purchase time to evaluate the organization and more than enough post purchase time to make the appropriate changes and he hasn't. I don't know how grand of a scheme it was but it's pretty clear this season is just a "wait it out" one and was from the start.

The Hayden Simpson pick, retaining Hendry, completely [expletive] up the asking for public money to fix Wrigley, Todd appearing on Undercover Boss and looking like a moron, and now pretending that injuries are the only thing wrong with this awful team is OK with you? Huh?

    I sorta remember seeing somewhere that this is due to Silva not being on the team. Like it isn't reported in the final totals but the Cubs technically are higher I think. Those opening day payroll lists are so dumb. They don't take into account contracts that have been eaten, nor mid-season trades that add or subtract payroll to teams, in order to actually compare what the team spends on players.

    I absolutely think it would go down with a legit #1. The only reason he was targeted so much was because he was practically the only option. Or more accurately there really wasn't a better option.

    That's not really true. The highest rated Super Bowls were in the 80's. NFL was well on its way to being king before the 94 MLB strike, and that was just a few years after the NFL had their last work stoppage. I think they can probably withstand missing a few games this year with virtually no dent to their standing. MLB took a hit because they lost teh World Series. If the entire NFL season is lost, including super bowl, then there will be problems. I also don't think it's crunch time yet. They have until August 1st before they would move the Bears game from London back to Tampa, and probably a few weeks later before they would cancel opening week. There could be 2.5 more months of this.

    Anybody get a little excited hearing about the secret meeting in Dupage County? Apparently not all owners knew about it, it was kept under the radar with just a few of the big name ones attending, along with Smith and a couple players. I wonder if the McCaskeys were kept abreast of the meeting, since they are not mentioned as having attended but obviously are very close to where they took place. They do not seem to be very influential, and just go along with whatever the Rooney/Mara types agree on.

    You are a such a liar it is ridiculous. Pitchers do not do what Cashner did all the time. Last year he was a reliever. It doesn't matter that he went a little deeper in starts in April and May. He was a reliever for four months pitching nearly every other day for 1 inning at a time. You don't just maintain your starting capacity for workload when you actually perform as a reliever, especially when you had such a limited capacity for workload as a starter in the first place. Wells needed to gradually build up to 200 innings if they wanted to be cautious about future healthy. He went from 120 to 190 and then just had one more 190. Your statement suggests he has a slew of 190 seasons coming in. He did not. He made a huge jump. And now he's paying the price.

    He went from 95 (mostly as a reliever), to 123 to 193. Are you really going to be so ridiculous as to pretend there were no warning signs with Randy Wells? A 70 inning jump in one season is huge. The facd he didn't get hurt the next day does not mean he was scott-free.

    The bottom line is pitchers get hurt and they purposefully depleted their depth before the season despite having one highly questionable arm, a vet with TJS in his past, a vet with multple injuries in his past, a relatively unestablished arm and to top it all off they recklessly utilized their most stable veteran after they already suffered injuries. You don't get to blame injuries when you don't plan for them and play with fire as they are happening.

    Cashner was hurt after being a college reliever pushed into a starting role where he was basically a 4 inning pitcher, then pushed back into a relief role and suddenly back into a starting role. It's lunacy to pretend this wasn't dangerous. Going 190 no issues doesn't mean you have established yourself as a guy who can't get hurt. He went from 100-120 to 190, then got hurt. His lack of wear and tear on his arm is a double edge sword. He wasn't already broken down, but neither was he built up. An unathletic catcher with multiple DL trips is a really strong bet to have more DL stints.

    We don't know if he truly believes it. Let's see what happens after the draft. We know he truly believed that Hendry was the right man for the job this year, long after it was pretty clear he was not. We know he's allowed every nonsensical excuse in the book to justify keeping the status quo on a failing organization. I wouldn't be surprised if he was dumb enough to think the only thing wrong with this team was injuries.

    We went over this before. Soriano and Johnson are the only ones that should be "expected" (I guess Garza as well due to the rain delay) That's simply not true. Cashner is a reliever who was yoyoed last year and then shoved into a starting role he was clearly not ready for. He was a 4+ inning pitcher for the most part in the minors and the last time he pitched when it counted he was a reliever. You can't treat a young arm with such limited use that way and expect it to go swimmingly. Wells was converted to pitcher and got stretched out in a hurry from a 100-120 inning pitcher to a nearly 200 inning pitcher. That's rough on an arm. Soto has been hurt every year. He's an unathletic catcher, that's going to be lead to DL stints. And then there was the reckless use of Garza. Byrd was the only weird one.
