  1. I think the bad field is a huge part as to why it's a tough place to play. The Bears record late in the season at home has always been one of their stronger suits, right? Wasn't the Arizona game an unseasonably warm day as well? In theory the Bears do well at home late in the year, but I'm not sure it's been true. The Arizona game was warm, but they play a few nice weather games every year. Do those not count?
  2. No. Don Baylor came after Riggleman, beginning a string of overhyped overpaid name managers (although I was a fan of his when they went looking). Essian was in the early 90's.
  3. not really sure what your agenda is here
  4. I don't get Soldier Field as being tough. It's a bad field, but tough place to play? Only for finesse dome teams like New Orleans at the right time of year. New England and Green Bay were able to go in late last year and handle it fine. Look what Arizona did there a couple years ago.
  5. http://fayobserver.com/articles/2011/06/06/1098890?sac=Sports Seems like it's just a straight up money issue. Doesn't sound like he has a preference for college, just that he's holding out for the right price.
  6. Would the MLBPA allow him to waive that guaranteed money? I'm not certain on that, but didn't Sosa do that when he went to Baltimore? I believe you can't reduce the value of your current contract in total dollars, i.e. simply take a paycut, but if you agree to not have an option vest it's viewed differently. (It won't happen, but one could argue he feels he can make more money as a free agent than he would from the option) I don't know, was Sosa's a player option? The Cubs still paid his salary for the first year. With Aramis it is a team option that kicks in automatically if traded. And if he voids it he doesn't get the buyout.
  7. Definitely not a complete refusal to waive it.
  8. Would the MLBPA allow him to waive that guaranteed money?
  9. His contract is not favorable for anybody wanting to trade for him. I doubt you could get much unless he had a huge turnaround. I really don't see much point in trying to trade him and I can't fault the best Cubs player of the past 9 years for not wanting to be traded. If he was the same guy but the Cubs acquired him in 2007, maybe I'd feel differently.
  10. Gretzky had strong ties to one owner who was arrested for financial shenanigans, had some sort of financial issues with the Coyotes and is dealing with a wife who has been tied to illegal gambling. So they are probably looking for all they can get.
  11. Tiger is going to miss it.
  12. That always surprises me. It was the first non fastball pitch I learned and was quite effective. I guess if you've got enough velocity to pop onto scouting radars there's no use for it in high school. That wasn't an issue with me.
  13. Tayler Scott, rhp, Notre Dame Prep HS, Scottsdale, Ariz. R/R 6'1" 175 19 5 3 2.87 11 0 46 46 26 58 I agree...skinny and could fill out and add velo radio guys say he was originally from south africa with limited baseball history.
  14. interesting idea. 30 doesn't seem far enough back for most cfb punters, but maybe it is. seems like you'd get a heck of a lot of series starting at the 40 or mid-field, which shortens the field a bit much for my taste. Maybe I'm misinterpreting but it sounds like your two comments are diametrically opposed. If it's not far enough back why are you worried about too many series starting at mid-field.
  15. +1 Absolutely. Agreed. Vince McMahon agrees too. sports
  16. What an ugly video. I'm pretty sure this guy is in my softball league. Very stiff swing. I like the concept of an actual corner bat though. Any idea of signability? didn't look stiff to me. looks pretty free and easy. in one of the highlights he takes a swing and fouls one off, less than 3 second later he was ripping a line drive. I was referring to the video off the MLB website. The youtube ones offer a little different take.
  17. .340/.491/.456 18 xbh, 32/42 stealing bases 57BB/30 strikeouts, with 215 AB

  19. And the Cubs 3rd pick is............ Devoss CF from university of Miami.
  20. No idea, but I would really like whoever the best player available is, regardless of cost. Cubs on deck.
  21. After this year we are hamstrung by a bad contract, Soriano. Z would be hard to trade I guess, but he pretty much earns his money, and there's no one else save maybe Dempster that would be considered a detrimental contract. Unless Hendry is allowed to stick around.
  22. NBC just won a 4 game bid for US TV rights.
