  1. Exactly. People irrationally hate Soriano because of how much money he makes, so much so to the point that they can't (or refuse to) see that dealing him just to deal him creates yet another hole in the lineup that they would have to fill. Just cut him when he stops being useful. I think a good deal of the hatred of Soriano is completely rational. It's the need to have him gone at all costs that is irrational.
  2. Soriano is owed 3/54, right? Instead of paying half his salary to play elsewhere for the next three years, I'd rather cut him in a couple years if it gets to the point where he sucks. This team doesn't have any corner bats anywhere close to ready to contribute. They are already likely looking to replace Kosuke and potentially first base and second base. He may not be worth any more than $8-10m this year and the next, but if you do pay him to go away, you are just going to have to go out and pay again to replace him. You need to get quality in return and/or pay very little of his salary.
  3. Brett Jackson has had an awful June, .211/.313/.352 Surprisingly the season numbers are still pretty solid for a CF (.253/.371/.437), but things aren't looking up right now.
  4. I'd rather he bring sexy back. It's already been broughten'
  5. It's nowhere near pitchfork time with Bowman.
  6. That was such a ridiculous list. The woman from CSN chicago was on CTL last night and that was supposedly her list of best available players the Hawks might be after. In reality it was just a couple big names and a couple random former Hawks. Wizniewski would be interesting just for the Seabrook connection.
  7. Excellent recovery from rough start and tough conditions.
  8. Ramirez June OPS up to 865, brings his season OPS to 783.
  9. stop interrupting my baseball listening with court related news.
  10. McGehee having a .596 OPS and -0.5 WAR gives me an irrational amount of happiness. Well it does remove one of the irrational rants meat head Cub fans like to use against Hendry. Now if Hamilton could just implode we'd be doing alright. Except for the whole "the Cubs still suck" thing.
  11. I think the only way that happens if we extend him 3-4 years for like $12-13m per year. Even then I think there has to be someone who will offer him $15m+ a year for the same amount of years. I wouldn't assume such an offer will exist without Ramirez showing some serious improvement. 3-4 years maybe, but at less money than that.
  12. My guess is the most dramatic firings they will do midseason is replacing the pitching coach. And Ramirez might actually be heating up for real this time. The OPS is over 800 in June.
  13. Hey Chicago what do you say, the Chicago Cubs are already losing today.
  14. Ahhh, I was hoping for something more humorous.
  15. Given the high flameout rate of pitching prospects in general, and high schoolers, I go into it concerned and wait for them to do something to lessen the concern. I agree with the general sentiment, but Simpson was a college draftee. As I wrote that I was thinking to myself, "did he come out of college"? But for some reason didn't bother to look it up. That was dumb.
  16. Wow. Hell yes. http://deadspin.com/5814233/the-comeback-pig-marv-alberts-tidy-post+bite-triumph Deadspin did a little Marv retrospective. It's fun to look back at stories that occured prior to the internet domination of sports news. I think the first time I posted on a message board was a year and a half after this happened. ESPN.com had like 1 post a day in heavy traffic times.

  18. The Wolves had a golden marketing opportunity when the Blackhawks were in the process of destroying their fanbase, now it seems like they may get another opportunity to be antagonistic.
  19. Rex Ryan ruins everything.
  20. Santo didn't have the same energy or enthusiasm for the past several years.
