  1. No. It was stated that the team was awesome and then pointed out multiple times after fact that no, it was actually just the pitching that was awesome. As if you can't have an awesome team with an excellent rotation and above average offsense.
  2. I'm going to DVR it on the off-chance he rips Kaplan's head off on live tv. And by rip his head off, I mean literally remove his head from his body. Killing him. Wouldn't you be shocked to see him actually on-set?
  3. And yet that still doesn't make a lick of sense when trying to pretend the Phillies are not a very good team. The fact that their offense is only above average doesn't change the fact that the team is excellent. Of course they are. They are a fantastic team who will probably win the World Series. Who said anything but that? did you not read the thread?
  4. The writers are seemingly throwing out that excuse, which doesn't make a lot of sense. If they knew things were so bad that they had to spend big on such a player, how could they pretend things are fine when they didn't get that player? This isn't really a question of trying to get better, they had to get better on the offensive line. John Mullin is so deep in bed with somebody at Halas Hall. He spends the majority of every report he has defending inadequacies in the organization, and the other half critiquing critics.

  6. If/when Jackson takes over CF, we'll have our entire up-the-middle be pre-FA, homegrown players. Maybe. It's no sure thing he'll take over, let alone for good, next year. 2B remains a work in progress and by the time he settles in Soto will be approaching free agency and may have a somewhat tenuous grip on the position.
  7. The thing about the line reshuffling is it's all the same ingredients. A couple guys are playing different positions, but the only people unfamiliar with the system are the now backup C and the 1st round rookie RT. All the other guys have been on this team and with each other for "reshuffling" to be a somewhat weak excuse in my opinion. The problem is quality of the players more than anything.
  8. I'd like to hear Hollandsworth respond to ARam's last sentence. Dude bitches about ARam not making the players around him better. Well how come he never took ARam under his wing and tried to make him a "better leader"? Hollandsworth sucked so it wasn't his job to make his teammates better, it's on the really good players like Ramirez to make the other players better, and when they fail to do that we can say they actually weren't good.
  9. All those issues are simply built in excuses for playing poorly based on how poorly they put the line together. No, you can't excuse it. The line playing poorly should not be acceptable even if it is inevitable. It's the first preseason game, they weren't giving additional help to the line...they were trying to see where their guys were at. I understand that frustration at the OL. There's a lot of at best questionable players on that line. But I just can't condemn them based on the first preseason game. I'm sure I'll join the chorus beating them up later on, but I'm not gonna [expletive] on them just yet. I'm condemning them based on several seasons in a row of poor play, a horrible 2010 when they nearly got Cutler killed, an offseason where they essentially ignored the problem, and yet another game where they played poorly. You are acting as though that showing was the first we've seen of the line and therefore cannot judge.
  10. Last year I thought this way, this year seems a little more straight forward. Barring a whole bunch of injuries to the defense and/or Cutler, I can't see them bombing. But it's also going to take an out of nowhere improvement by the offensive line to push into the 12 win territory this year.

  12. the only vegas number I've seen is 9.5 I'm thinking 9-7 and hoping for 10-6.

  14. Why did Randy Wells take over Zambrano's locker? And has there been anything written from Chicago people about Soriano being the one that confronted Zambrano, instigating his blow up? I think I read on cbssports.com the story that Zambrano left the field/dugout relatively calmly, and that Soriano followed him into the clubhouse to rip him to shreds. And it wasn't until after that confrontation that Zambrano actually "quit".
  15. They have the best record in baseball, by a pretty decent margin. The Phillies are awesome.
  16. I feel like you are just throwing out phrases you have heard.
  17. In what way is that a fact that remains?
  18. That isn't an opinion. That's an unsubstantiated attack on a guy who is a much better player than Hollandsworth ever was, when that player has nothing to gain from defending himself.
  19. He's not a deep down cubs fan. He's a former player who realizes he's got 30-50 years of life to live and not many ways to earn a living other than talking about baseball. He sees an opportunity to ingratiate himself to idiot fans who like to believe the sort of nonsense he can spout off.
  20. I've hated him for a long time and this just adds to the list. He's all about the rah-rah and the grit and small ball and all that other nonsense.
  21. Really, what could a handful of internet nerds in their mothers' basement possibly teach you about minor leaguers?
  22. Nice post deadline pickup by Hendry.
