    Maybe after next year. Given the constant complaining by Quade about Castro, I doubt a new regime looks to lock the kid up to what would be a lifetime of security for him and all his family. It would be very risky and open them up to criticism for coddling players and not holding them accountable. Yeah, but does anyone really care what Mike Quade thinks? Even the meatballs who would normally eat this stuff up think he's a clueless buffoon. No, not really. But it's not just Quade. It's basically assumed now that Castro is well on his way to becoming a head case. I really doubt a new regime is going to make signing him longterm a high priority in year one.

    But as I said, both the Yankees and Rangers claimed they knew what was up so neither side accused Soriano of anything that could seemingly impact his contract. My question is if a team claims that they were duped by the player when they signed him do they have options after the fact if it's revealed he's older than he claims? Teams have gotten out of contracts to younger imported free agents that were proven to have lied, have they not? If you can get out of the contract for a 21 year old prospect who said he was 17, I don't see why you couldn't get out of a contract for a 35 year old free agent who said he was 31. I'm sure the latter will have better lawyers and be able to come to a buyout, but the owner should have a leg to stand on, unless he knew what was up all along and just chose to try and get out of the deal.

    Castro is a nice piece, but he is nowhere near the kind of player you worry about "wasting" his cheap years. That is such an incredibly stupid comment to make. He's exactly the kind of player you worry about wasting his cheap years. Not only is he already far ahead of what anybody could reasonably expect, once he does become expensive, he's going to stay expensive for a long time. He'll be a free agent before he's peaked. That doesn't happen.

    Are you for serious? I hope he mixed up Bruce Miles and Bruce Levine. Bruce has been one of the only people in the media to question Hendry's ability to do that job based on his outdated philosophies. He's been the only one pointing out the flaws in Hendry's be aggressive, swing swing swing, give me some athletes, damn the computers philosophy. But he's a beat writer who does it more subtly than a bombastic columnist would. Others have attacked Hendry, but they only do it because attack is their only style. And they don't even know what they are attacking.

    He moved to the US with his family as a kid in the 90's and got himself set-up in high school then college. I'm pretty sure all the other guys who got busted with visa issues came in with a much different route. Although if the Cubs sign him I'd happily join the group who thinks it's ridiculous to question his age.

    No reason not to play hard ball with him. Big money secondary contracts to RB routinely end up biting the team in the butt eventually. He's not a free agent, and he's not elite, so he shouldn't expect elite RB money.

    Baseball guy means that from the time you left high school baseball was the primary factor in your life. You either played in college or got drafted into some minor league organization. You stayed involved at many levels and when your playing career was over you went right into some coaching or scouting capacity and worked your way up.

    Who gives a crap what Boers and Bernstein say about what Kenney considers himself. The guy is a business executive for a company whose primary business is to play baseball. He is a baseball executive. So freaking what.

    Perhaps one who heard Ricketts say today that the new GM will report directly to him, and recognizes that hearsay about Kenney doing nebulous things like "meddling" would be a ridiculous reason to pass on an opportunity as great as the Cubs GM position. I hoppe you are right and that Kenney has no effect on the hiring process. Although, Kenney getting launched would make me feel a lot better about that. He runs the business side of the Chicago Cubs. That fact has been clear as day for years. It's been repeated by those in charge many times.

    Mark Shapiro and Paul DePodesta are two guys I know who've admitted the same thing. Kenney isn't a GM or even baseball ops FO guys like those guys are... I understand that. I was just trying to speculate on why people randomly hate him. Because he's a suit, and people are conditioned to hate the suits. The term baseball guy gets bandied about because all you really have to do is be around long enough. Outsiders are hated. He's tied in with the Tribune and people blame the tribune for the failures of the baseball team
