    Yeah, I don't know if it was because it was the beginning of the internet/espn dominated era of sports or what. But in the end it was just another loss. WFAN in NY was cutting in and airing lots of Cubs broadcasts that year because of the HR chase and so everybody listening to NY sports radio heard it (at the time it was the only sports radio here). You could here WGN online anywhere in the world so people heard that everywhere.

    You don't have to fight to keep a guy under contract that is hard to trade. You tell your owner you gave it the old college try but did not feel comfortable with any offers and would feel more comfortable to try and make it work with him than dump him. The Cubs already suck and will have a tough time to be good next year. Letting Ramirez walk and paying Zambrano to go away is just going to make it harder to conted next season.

    If that's the case as far the developmental staff only using stats, Marmol and Wells wouldve been released as no hit catchers and Lake would not have made it past Peoria. This is getting sad.

    wasn't it hendry that said that? i'm hoping that with both hendry and quade done, we at least give him the chance to come back and create a little more leverage for a trade. Ricketts has all but ruled out any chance of keeping Zambrano.

    While I agree that he needs to be paid, one thing you don't do is sign a RB to a 7-8 year contract. I don't care who he is. Huh? This isn't baseball. You sign him for as longterm as you can, to spread out the cap hit. It's not the length that is all that scary, it's the guarantee.

    A) They've spent a lot of money on washed up offensive linemen. B) They spent 1st round draft pick money on a few RBs and brought in veteran free agents. C) Muhsin Muhammed D) It's not like they haven't tried to pay him more. Forte asked for more than they offered. Whatever they end up giving him, he will be a salary cap hit in a couple years.

    Has it ever come out that something more happened besides what was reported? Because for the life of me I don't understand how that was a "can no longer be a part of this organization" offense. It's just so ineffective to force yourself to trade a guy.

    If it was that easy to get average offense at 3B, more than half the teams in the league would be doing it, and the average would be higher. Never thought I'd see the day where the Cubs offense at 3B would be taken for granted. A decade of steady and solid production has blinded people. And for some reason, a whole series of middling prospects that failed to fill-in at a reasonable level has escaped notice at the same time.

    they won't be able to. this line gets confused blocking a 4-man front. Why are some fans so obsessed with the blitz? I would actually welcome some over aggressive blitzing this week. Cutler can exploit that on occassion. The Bears lack the line to block straight up and look deep.

    In my opinion there are 3 majors factors the Bears cannot rely on; the offensive line, the receivers, and the secondary. All three of them are anywhere from subpar to horrible. It has gotten to the point where the WR coach is acting like a high school coach telling fans to love them or leave them. Those receivers are really bad. They provide no safety valve for Cutler, and of course with this offensive line you need that safety valve. The game will have to be won by Cutler, Forte, the dline and linebackers. But they might need another special teams break to make it happen.

    The search should be over by now. The decision making will take place as soon as teams start finishing their seasons.

    The point is the people who would type college football probably aren't fans but rather high school students researching a lame paper.

    FINALLY!!! When people can't grasp scouting is and will be predom. Subjective, that is their lack of knowledge on scouting. Is this yoda?

    You don't think a Flaherty/Baker platoon could surpass a .701 OPS? That's not my ideal choice certainly, but if that's what it takes to net elite talent at first and in the rotation in the primes of their careers, then I'll take it. There are other cheap options we could look into - Mark Reynolds comes to mind, though he's very flawed - but those two are in-house options who would likely produce better than league average in a platoon role. Except simply letting Ramirez goes does absolutely nothing to "net elite talent at first and in the rotation." Letting your best player go does not increase your odds of acquiring other teams' free agents.

    Pretty much, yes. You don't spend 1st round picks on guys who might be okay guards. At the time it didn't seem bad. But we heard about pre-existing back problems, and he's been a terrible 1st round pick so far. Angelo has a history of sucking at the offensive line, both with Tampa and the Bears. He's yet to draft even one good starter in a decade at the job in Chicago. It would be one thing if he spent a lot of 2nd/3rd/4th round picks while adding depth, but the guy either spends a 1st round pick (2 busts and a don't know yet) or a 6th, ignoring everybody else. It's like Hendry with the outfield situation for years. They were desperate to fill it so they had to get Soriano, and the Bears have been desperate to fill the line so they've had to spend insane money on Pace plus 2 recent 1st round picks. Very poor management of the group.

    Never heard of a rival not wanting to give up a milestone? It's not a big deal and I only point it out because I know there are Brewer fans reading this right now. A meaningless milestone that nobody will remember a year from now? No, I have not. Yeah, I've heard of pitchers not wanting to give up record setting HR, but not 200th hit.

    That's "everything" you could have done? Maybe last year. But the dolt conveniently glosses over the fact that he ignored the 5 MAN POSITION GROUP for half a decade in the draft. It's 5 positions you have to fill. Occasionally spending an early pick on it isn't going to cut it. They have to overcompensate just to get back to a normal level of attention. It also doesn't help when your most recent 1st round OL pick comes in pre-injured and sucks.

    why are you looking for generic college football apparel? It would be smarter to search "bowl schedules". There is just no reason to add more words than is necessary to get the result you want. It's unrealistic to think normal people would do that on any sort of regular basis.
